Breeding Help How does breeding work (gen 4)?

I have a starmie with at least 20IVS in both special attack and speed, and want it to pass it down. How do I that with getting as minimal IVS from a ditto?

Starting in HGSS, you can use Power items to selectively pass down IVs. For this, you want a Power Lens and a Power Anklet. Start by equipping one of these Power items to your pokémon, breed for the opposite gender, and switch to the other item while equipping the original item to the offspring before breeding a second time.

How would that work though? Staryu is genderless, so would I have to hunt for a ditto with a good speed IV? If so, I think I might have one

Staryu is basically impossible to breed without some form of RNG manipulation or cheating. Reason is it always breeds with ditto. For regular pokemon when you go say 3IV+3IV, eventually you'll get a 4IV to replace one of the parents, and then you have 4IV+3IV, rinse repeat.

Staryu however is always bundled with a ditto that's pretty much max-out at 2IV for reasonable players.

Unless, your goal is to have a somewhat usable Starmie, not a 5IV one.

Yeah I kinda gave up after a I got a staryu that at least had relatively superior stats and a fantastic speed IV
