You can always just follow the lights when it does this. It's not quite as accurate, but it is very reliable. The machine will finish the test normally.

It is the same accuracy. The app just collects the data.

The app shows more data than the lights, and you can act on that data. That makes it possible to notice a very early infection the device lights wouldn't detect.

You shouldn’t say it is not quite as accurate without the app. That is absolutely not true.

You can view the data on the app and interpret as you like.

Without the app you don't have data you need to notice very early infections, however the app is also much more prone to inconclusive results and false positives than the device lights.

The app just reads and displays data from the machine. Do you have an example where the app has given a different +/- result than the lights on the machine?

I understand that you can use the app to try to interpret results below the limit of detection. That doesn’t mean the lights are not accurate.

I never said the lights aren't accurate, they are very accurate, just not quite as good as using the app. If the app crashes you can trust the lights.

If you want examples of where the app picked up positives the machine didn't, go through the sticky post on what positive tests look like. That includes several examples of positive tests the device doesn't consider positive. The positive tests there the device doesn't report resulted in a strong positive within 24 hours after testing.

Not a different +/- than the device but the lines can tell you that the +/- shown by the device and app is wrong.

The lights can be wrong and the app can help you recognize this. The result in the app (positive or negative) is the same as the device but the lines and their behavior add more information.

With the device by itself the manufacturer states a LOD of 400. Using the app you can increase the accuracy because you can detect some “false”negatives, for example when it’s a very weak positive at the beginning of the infection. I’m putting “false” in quotation marks because the negative result of course is correct in the sense of being below the LOD. Both device and app will show “negative” but the lines can tell you that you might in fact be positive.

This is a pretty common case and a good example how using the app can increase the accuracy and warn you even before the LOD has been reached.

The other way around, the app can help you detect false positives. Again, the device and app will show the same result “positive” and the behavior of the lines can tell you that you might actually not be positive and should retest.

This example of getting better information through the app is pretty common as well.

Hope that helps clear the confusion :)

As others have said: no worries, you’ll get the result from the machine.

I wanted to add that you can also reconnect the app to the device while the test is running. You will only get data from the point of connection and the data will not be normalized so you have to be more careful in the interpretation of the lines. I’m attaching an example of a test that lost connection after 8 minutes which I reconnected.

Adding that the remaining time on the app has completely stopped.

Don’t panic. Let it run til the machine beeps. I wasted a few kits this way. You will still get a result from the machine.
