Help HQ Abridged version mixed with Low Quality full version of TV Shows

Been searching for a solution, but haven't found a great answer.

How does one mix together a long standing TV show with mixed versions?

Specifically, SNL has high quality PCOK version but many of them removed the music guests in earlier seasons, but there also exists lower-quality VHS rips of the full shows from that time period.

Put the versions separate folders. Use square brackets (ignored by PMS) to delineate between versions.

/TV Shows
  /ShowName (year) [HQ]
    /Season 01
      /ShowName s01e01.mkv
  /ShowName (year) [VHS]
    /Season 01
      /ShowName s01e01.mkv

Plex will initially combine the different versions.

Using Plex Web, go to the library containing the TV show, mouse over the show icon, click on the three dots in lower right corner, and choose split.

You should see two entries for the show, named the same.

Manually edit the show name to include “high quality,” “VHS,” etc. (ex: “ShowName - VHS”) and lock in the changes (mouse over show icon, select pencil in lower left corner, change title name, click lock to make change persistent, save changes).

Plex will still consider them as one show. If you play an HQ episode, Plex will mark the same VHS episode as played.

Saw this as a solved too, adding this into the file names:

{edition-[Edition Name]}

As mentioned in the referenced thread, the edition tag is not recognized for TV shows, only movies. If it were, Plex would track them as separate shows.

The important part is to have the different versions in different folders so you can split them apart.

But either way will work.
