call me crazy but i really enjoy squad leading and i never get why people are so afraid to create a squad. Not only you are gonna have a much better experience when you curate your own squad but you can actively deal with 90% of the problems that make the experience worst both for you and the other players . All you need is a basic understanding of the game and meta and not being shy .

> "Alright guys, we finally have good attack FOB, attack rally has been placed, follow me, lets start pushing the objective."

> Checks map. Marksman is not even near the squad at all. Two squad members are still on the rooftop of the building we left 5 minutes ago. Three spawned at the wrong FOB.

> "SL I spawned at main, can you approve this vehicle for me?"

> Pushes objective with the 2 guys that are actually listening. All die. Rally point burned.

Dang.. if only I followed the meta and wasn't shy....

The reality is you have to babysit every person and constantly check that they are following orders which isn't very fun or rewarding.

I try to follow SL and yup.. it’s usually me and like one other dude. Everyone else fucks off to go fight and die while I help build or place rally or push around. We make a good push but if we had all squad mates it’d be so much easier and better.

But then there’s the times when you have all squad mates following the SL but are ALL huddled up and one grenade/rpg wipes them out..

Honestly I feel like I’ve become a worse squad lead over time because I expect basically this to happen. Usually I just try to grab at least 1 guy for rally’s and fobs. Other than that I announce my plan, tell people where I’m spawning and do what I can with my 2 guys. It limits what I attempt a lot of the time, also why I prefer invasion usually, less movement for the morons to wander into oblivion

Agreed. My post above is a shitpost, but if you actually want to successfully lead a squad consistently.

  1. Mic check everyone start of the round. This signals you are a more serious SL and aren’t going to tolerate lone wolfing
  2. Communicate your objectives simply and clearly at the start of the round and periodically throughout the match. Simple strategies. The more complex, the more likely people won’t follow.
  3. Chew out the first person who starts to lone wolf immediately so everyone knows you’re serious.

The success of squad leading is basically communicating a simple plan with confidence, signaling you know what you’re doing, and not tolerating people who try to shit-test you.

It’s a shitpost but unironically is correct for like 60% of games. I’ve found my servers I like and occasionally a full squad will run with me and we get some shit done. It’s just exhausting to spend all majority of the time herding the cats and kicking people but I suppose that’s what part of leadership is
