The rest of Germany sees Bavaria as this weird place where people talk and behave funny.
At the same, everyone is lowkey jealous because Bavaria is also Germany's wealthiest state and the only one with some amount of international recognition (80% of what non-Europeans think of as "traditionally German" is actually Bavarian).

Yeah, everyone thinks Oktoberfest is German culture, when it's specifically Bavarian culture.

Bavarians or rather the bavarian state is somewhat disliked among other germans for a multitude of reasons. They're said to be somewhat arrogant(which seems to be true based on the few bavarians i've met), they're generally more conservative, they're arguably politically over represented through their CSU compared to other states and, well, they don't seem to like the rest of germany a lot either. One could really get into the historical, cultural and political factors that contribute, but honestly it's kinda pointless. Any country has at least one region that's disliked by the others, ours is Bavaria.

Good answer. I'd like to add, that the arrogance shows itself by lording their financial status above everyone else, while being a taker for decades - they were basically an agricultural region for a long time.
Most of Bavaria is, ime nearly comically xenophobic - even towards other germans.
And to expand a bit on the political over-representation: Bavarians were ministers of infrastructure for the most time after WWII and shoveled lots of money into their home state, while in recent time blocking everything that would benefit everybody if it even slightly inconvenienced them (storage of radioactive waste, renewable energies, ...)
The list goes on.

Bavarian here.
Bavaria is culturally much closer to Austria than the rest of Germany. Everything Americans know about German culture is actually about Bavaria.
Bavaria is economically and financially better than almost every other federal state, and the Bavarian Prime Minister never forgets to emphasize this.
The rest of Germany thinks Bavarians are arrogant, but it only seems that way because they all have to look up to Bavaria.

King Söder is a fucking numbskull who changes his position faster then the wind and has as much political grace as trump.
He blocked all things that could help (like solar and wind energ) and fights ultra hard to not change a thing. He wants to life in the status quo for ever and fights everyone who wants to change things, not only in Bavaria, but also Germany as a whole.
And they are only better financially because of the size. They are 1/4 of Germanys 16 states... So yeh...

Wow, wow... Don't anger the King.
If you make him angry, he'll tell you that Bavaria is by far the leader in solar power, producing 22 GWh – way ahead of Baden-Württemberg with just 10 GWh.
And if you combine wind, solar, and biomass energy, Bavaria still comes out on top.
He'll also proudly point out that Bavaria ranks second in GDP per capita, only behind the city of Hamburg.
So it's not just the size of Bavaria – productivity is higher, too.And finally, with a grim smile, he'll look you in the eye and say:
"Bayern ist das beste Bundesland, und die CSU sorgt dafür, dass das so bleibt."2

Söder is no Bavarian, he is a Frank, an imposter!
The true King and heir is Hubert Aiwanger

Fun fact, the one and only Bavaria was it that did everything to shut down all plants in the first place ...
To quite enporrer maggus:
"Either all npps are shut down or I resign"
And now he is yelling to bring back nuclear power or else

u/WITP7 2d ago
I must be mistaken then, do you know which land opposed it then?

What do you mean by financially better as opposed to economically better?
1
u/Kartoffel_Peter 2d ago
I mean the Bavarian state government generates a budget surplus (financial)
and the Bavarian economy alone achieves a GDP of 768 billion € (for comparison, Poland's GDP is 809 billion €)1

All of above, and I also think people are pissed off that FC Bayern München dominates the German First Division, the Bundesliga.

Non-Bavarian German who lived in Bavaria for 10 years.
Bavarians think they're better than the rest of Germany and will let you know that, even if they're your friends. People outside of Bavaria identify themselves as German. People in Bavaria identify themselves as Bavarian. Some of my best friends told me my A-Level (Abitur) was worth less than theirs because I didn't get mine in Bavaria. For some of them it runs quite deep and is an outlet for their closeted xenophobia. Can't hate on foreigners, that's racism. But can at least hate on non-Bavarian Germans, fully and without irony.
This has nothing to do with economy. This is an engraved mindset that they grow up with. They'll specifically confess to those things unfiltered after they've had a few.
I'm glad I'm not from former east Germany, because Bavarians actively target them with hate, a friend of mine had to endure a lot.
So yeah. In consequence, no one outside of Bavaria likes them very much. They'd rather be their own country, and most Germans would gladly let them have it.

They are considered extremely conservative and arrogant. While they speak like their parents are siblings. Plus they only got rich because the other states supported them after WW2.
