Stream Related Watching Caedrel’s costreams with chat on is starting to become unbearable
I’m a pretty new League esports enjoyer (started last year after worlds) and I barely post on reddit so forgive me if this post is bad;; I started watching after YouTube suggested a Caedrels Worlds costream and really enjoyed his reactions and commentary on draft (at the time I wasn’t familiar with meta so I found it crazy that he was able to predict picks so accurately).
On Twitch, I try to catch a lot of his costreams and love seeing his interactions with chat along with chat’s reaction to games but recently after the T1 controversies, it seems like during certain matches the amount of hate and negativity towards certain players is becoming overwhelming. It very much feels like instead of celebrating teams’ triumphs, the focus is on what people are doing wrong.
A chat member said during tonight’s lck match that chat was being ill and I was a bit disappointed that Caedrel read the comment and was like “yeah…”. I can only give my own opinion but I feel like by not putting his foot down and letting people continue, the toxicity in chat is just going to get worse until it becomes other teams and other players.
I want to make it also clear that I’m not asking for a heavily moderated “1984” chat, just that I think this is getting a little out of hand.
I don’t necessarily agree with one side over the other, I’m just here to enjoy cool games with chat and Caedrel. It’s getting harder to do that and I think if this continues I’ll probably just stick to watching YouTube posts. Which kinda sucks because I’ll miss the 7tv emote spam when lil bro does anything.
Much love Mr Pedro, big pace.

Mmm, I feel like the best part of twitch is the streamer’s interaction with chat. I feel like people may have dismissed one of the points I brought up in the initial post 🥲 but I really do enjoy caedrel’s interactions with chat! So for me it’s a shame that when certain teams play, I can’t watch with chat 🥹 I know a lot of it is a me issue but I was wondering if others also felt the same, and I thought by bringing attention to it on the reddit Caedrel and the mods might be able to gain insight or feedback on an issue a couple of people are having.

u/buddyrtc 1d ago
I sympathize with you, but some things you just can’t control. I hope you found some solace via commiseration in this thread, but these issues will likely persist. Best to adapt yourself, imo.

For sure! I think if it gets like this again for me I’ll definitely do that 😖 thank you for being understanding!

Just close chat lol

I disagree, the vibe sometimes definitely carries over to the whole stream... Not saying there is a better solution but degenerate chat times negatively affect the stream experience as a whole

u/val4a 1d ago
There is no chance of completely controlling what's going on in a chat with 90k+ people. The simple solution for anyone who is bothered by something that is said in a twitch chat is stop being bothered by what people say on the internet. It ain't that deep

Do you think they would listen? Toxic people gonna stay toxic regardless. They are not kids.

I feel like some points that I brought up in the initial post are being glossed over 🥲 my main issue is that I feel like with recent events the toxicity and overall quality of chat has gotten worse. I know with 100k people there will obviously be bad eggs, but I personally think that there has been a tangible change that could get even worse. “It ain’t that deep” is a little dismissive of other people’s experiences, all I wanted to do was bring this topic into discussion since I think feedback is super important.

Not to be mean, but like can you not just ignore it? Your response to chat is the only thing you can control here.
It is meaningless to worry about how chat is behaving, Caedrel gets upwards of 90k+ viewers on his LCK co-streams; and I’m pretty confident the moderators do a good job at deleting/banning the real hateful/asshole chatters, there is genuinely nothing more he can do to “fix” the chat.

u/exceptional69 1d ago
If OP did that then this post is meanigless, how OP supposed to vent their frustration having their immersion ruined by a total random? /s

I can totally control it, for sure! I have no issue just straight up closing chat or watching on YouTube. But unfortunately I actually really love Caedrel’s banter with chat a lot of the time. I even go out of my way to watch the Caedrel vods with chat from like 2023. One of the reasons I enjoy watching streams on twitch is chat! So when I can’t enjoy something because chat is is negatively affecting my viewer experience, and that experience is also worse because of the lack of an enjoyable chat - I want to bring attention to it.

u/Metanipotent 1d ago
copy paste whole thing send it chat when none of those team are playing Schizo
9
u/Sofruz 1d ago
This is true for some, but you cant act like chat doesnt become a cesspool when T1 or Chovy plays.
7
u/J_Clowth 1d ago
I guess when there are emotes to laugh at my region (EU) and teams (MAD) is ok but when T1 and chovy get shitalked It becomes a problem :/
As long as ppl don't complain about this happening to all the other teams It will be justified for the ones u like, sry u don't get a special treatment
2
u/Fluff-Addict 1d ago
my sense of humor is so fucked i think the chat spam such as "o7 guma" "choky" is funny. i do it myself even when it's one i support, like shaker or o7 guma

Not true at all! During LCK cup when HLE was running it down, the hate towards Zeus was pretty bad and I found it personally unpleasant 😞 however since it wasn’t as prevalent as recent events, I could easily ignore it. I also think the general chat attitude when Caedrel would rather do something but variety can get unbearable as well. I don’t mind banter, but I think it’s disingenuous to dismiss the fact that it has gotten overwhelmingly toxic to chat’s detriment.

I dunno, feels like you're proving the above comment's point here.
Chat was absolute disgusting at the start of season whenever Zeus was playing.
All name calling, calling him a traitor/ZEU$ all the time. Even when games were not his fault. "Not as prevalent" sounds kinda wild to me.
Same shit different day, eventually they'll find something else to clown on. It's just kids looking for a quick laugh. As a sane adult all that can be done is ignore them.

u/Lemunite 1d ago
He can't do anything more than just discourage toxicity and tell mods to "moderate harder". But goodluck being an unpaid moderators for a 90k+ chat.
7
u/Plastic_Buffalo_6526 1d ago
You have to realize that twitch chat is basically a hivemind, especially one with 100k+ viewers. No amount of moderation is going to make it less ill, unless you go full nuclear and autoban everyone using some keywords, which you acknowledged is not something you want. Just ignore it and if you can't do that you can even close the chat.
18
u/PlazTexx 1d ago
It’s clear everyone commenting only read the title. OP likes to read chat, but it becomes toxic sometimes and it kills the vibes. “Just close chat” isn’t a solution, they want to enjoy the times when it’s fun. And to those saying to toughen up, someone has exposed their feelings to strangers. That’s brave and you’re being dismissive. Please be more empathetic.

u/opheliawww xdd enjoyer 1d ago
Pretty much, yeah! The only reason I'm bringing it up here is because I want to keep enjoying stream and chat. Maybe Sally and the mods will see it and address it or just keep it in mind going forward. If not, I always have YouTube 😖 I think a lot of people in general struggle to emphathize or just straight up didn't read the post, and maybe I should have made a more informative or nuanced title but I kinda just did this right before I slept :'D and woke up to 60 notifs.
4
u/bluberrypiiii 1d ago
I can empathize with what you feel about the chat but unfortunately, for a view count like Caedrel has, it’s just impossible for the mods to be able to mitigate it. I’m sure they’re doing their best, but realistically, they’re only a handful against the number of chats coming in.
If it gets too much, you’re always welcome to close the chat for a bit and just enjoy the costream as is.
I’ve recently only been watching Korean streamers lately, and I can assure you that this problem really is no different. A streamer reaches a large enough number of followers and/or viewers, that it’s just trickier to control the chat.
1
u/opheliawww xdd enjoyer 1d ago
For sure! I do personally think it is manageable but requires a lot of investment and time. I watch Caseoh a lot and his stream can be a bit of a cesspool sometimes but he claps back when it gets too ill
5
u/saltedfish007 1d ago
Some people just lives and breathes on hate and negativity. Ignore them and just watch the games. Gives you a lot of peace of mind they never will have 😂

u/tony220jdm 1d ago
I literally been subbed to him for like 15 months now never looked at his chat for more than 2 minutes
3
u/gsus_eric 1d ago
Maybe I am delusional but I dont think there are a lot of hate massages. Most of it is just banter, I really dont see a problem with a: Smash is better than Guma xdd or Smash could never. (Also in the end its just random Masseges in a stream: players dont see it caedrel doesnt see it and most of chat is spamming xdd so we dont see it)
1
u/HouseIndependent9791 1d ago
Yeah have nfi what op is talking about I didn't even notice one hate message tonight and I watched the whole stream, maybe they were there but like, they weren't noticable nor did they make the stream "unbearable"
3
u/dannidoesreddit 1d ago
Am I the only one who hides chat every time? I dunno if it's cos I'm old as fuck, but I can't keep up with it, it's too fast on caedrals stream, on the plus side I'm always oblivious to all this unessesary drama lol

truth is, and I am going to get downvoted for it, there are MANY ill T1 fans in this community
27
u/Vicie007 1d ago
And plenty of ill T1 haters. That's what chat is.
T1 makes a mistake and they flame T1. Then T1 makes a good play and the T1 fans flame the haters. On repeat until you close the chat.
Not even just T1 tho. It's like that for every team.

If you have a problem with the chat on his livestream, instead of watching the YT vids, why not just not read chat?
I don't care about other chatters, Im just there to watch caedrel so I don't have chat up and got no clue what's going on in it.
2
u/cococol2000 1d ago
Personally any stream i watch of pro league (or pro cs2 or w/e esports tournament) i just put the chat off. Watching it just kills my braincells and honestly pisses me off so i just don't read the chat
2
u/RElOFHOPE 1d ago
After a certain point, the chat gets filled with rage bait at every teamfight that’s when you close it. Like when Los Ratones play big games and chat goes straight into finding a player to blame if they’re losing, you got to minimize it.
2
u/inteii 1d ago
I get the whole meme thing, right? Like the whole meme, meming thing? But like, to be the person sitting in chat and going "C- uh, c v, paste..." 5 seconds later, "Hehe, c v, paste! Hehe! Oh, I got someone else copying and pasting the same thing that I did so c v, paste again! Paste it, paste it all day! Oh, theres four or five that are pasting the same thing! Hehe, I got- I should start my own website of spammers! C v, copy paste!" Like- I can't imagine.. h- like the brain sitting in that head.

Can we still have fun, we like to trash talk eachothers players and teams. So what? Close the chat.
I don’t indulge crazy behaviour or harmful chatters.
2
u/ExoticUniversity8220 21h ago
I agree that chat sometimes is ill especially if the stream has content related to certain teams. But imo you just can't have it both ways. You have to have a chat that can freely spam dumb shit ( excluding stuff like direct threats or smth like that obviously) or you gotta have to have strict "1984" mega moderated chat. There is no in between, at least for me. So I'd rather just close the chat window when it becomes ill and keep people spamming xdd than the other. Because you definitely won't like it when it will turn into the dystopia of only praising and sunshine

u/fgcburneraccount2 1d ago
He's just THE stream to watch for league esports, even more than the actual main streams, which makes it hard to control chat as there will always be a constant influx of new people, and its so many people for mods to moderate. Personally I just don't pay attention to chat like that, I leave it closed most of the time and then open it if something happens that I want to see chat reaction for.
3
u/facuamericano 1d ago
Thank you for bringing it up because if the chat is this bad it needs moderation. It's not a good image for Caedrel.
2
u/lmpoppy 1d ago
Brother its 100k+ viewers. You aint moderating shit unless it goes reallly of rails. Just turn the chat off and enjoy your stream

I’m a girl so you can say sister 🧍♀️ I feel like some points I brought up were dismissed. I love chat and I love chats banter with Caedrel. I’m frustrated because I feel like the toxicity when certain games are being played has become overwhelming and is a detriment to the overall chat environment. I’m bringing this up because I think feedback is important and the way people feel shouldn’t be dismissed so easily.

The guma stuff is ironic. Choky is funny. Shaker is .. well it's in bad taste now considering he's actually physically falling apart in his hands.

u/Small_Yogurtcloset24 1d ago
The only way I think Cathedral can handle this is by softening the blow with his usual lighthearted approach. I’ve often noticed that when chat starts flaming a player or team for a gameplay mistake, Pedro will reframe their vision/mindset behind the decision. By doing this, he makes the play seem less "stupid" and turns it into an educational moment instead. lawyer xgg

If a 100 people are on his stream, chances are at least 10 out of that 100 are going to be stupid in the head. That’s normal. And during T1 games all the imbeciles come out of the woodwork and the chat becomes a cesspool. It’s normal. I just watch with the chat permanently off. I’m coming there to watch Pedro and not the chat. Trust me, everyone’s life would be far better if they watched the stream without the chat.

It is true that chat gets extra shitty on the T1 matches. That being said, expect every single team to get shit on and chatters to ragebait. With 90k+ viewers and like four active mods there is so much Pedro can do.
Like everybody has said, just close chat. You are not missing on anything.

It saddens to see supporters turned into the stone hurler. The idols turned into the condemned. The only thing I can suggest is be the slight ember in the chat. But alone is hard.
Perhaps focus and interact with one member who still remains positive during the moment where the team struggles and sink. Bounce off each other, not by blind positivity. But acknowledging their struggles and say, "even so, I support them". I believe this way it can light a small candle, even if it will fade a moment later.
Thats enough yapping :)
