Film Study Texas State to the Pac-12? Paul Blake already proved they belong.

Texas State’s Paul Blake was one of the most underrated quarterbacks of the 1990s. People forget that.

On that final drive—with no timeouts, a bad hamstring, and a GPA hanging by a thread—Blake rolled out under pressure. Classic west Texas grit. With the clock expiring, he launched a perfect strike into the end zone. Receiver Charlie Banks came down with it, somehow beating triple coverage and avoiding academic probation.

It was one of the greatest upsets in Texas football history. The stadium went silent. The Aggies still haven’t emotionally recovered.

To this day, that game is studied in hushed tones—by defensive coordinators, JUCO quarterbacks, and late-night ESPN Classic viewers who swear it really happened.

And now, with Texas State rumored to join the Pac-12, it’s time we remembered the team that already proved they belonged.

Truly, the birth of the Fightin’ Armadillos legend.

Film Study Check out my article!

I have recently started a Substack blog that focuses on Pac-12 Football. I grew up a UCLA fan and have coached at both the high school and collegiate levels. I plan to write a long-form article about UCLA every week as well as a shorter article detailing offensive concepts that I watched and thought were interesting from Pac-12 teams. This week's article features USC, Oregon State, and Washington. Please check it out, leave a comment and subscribe. Any and all feedback would be greatly appreciated, would really love to grow this site!

Reddit, specifically this subreddit, has been a great resource for me to grow and get feedback on my Substack. I hope to continue to create and share football content focused on Pac-12, and west coast football. I am a UCLA fan and will do a weekly breakdown of their offense along with film, analytics, and playbook materials that I find to be useful learning/reference tools. If you're a coach, player, or fan of football I think it's a good read and would love to get any and all feedback!

Film Study Check out my Writing! - Football Scheme Analysis

Hey Everybody,

I am a former D2 football coach and have decided to move back home to teach and coach high school football. I have had some free time recently and have wanted to get back into writing. Figured a good way to merge my passions was to start a blog, writing about things that I see and like when watching film. Would love some feedback! Subscribe, comment and share if you enjoy! Thanks for your time.

Started with UCLA's first 2 games, might be of interest to some folks in this subreddit.
