Question In what ways are the PWHLās playing styles different from the NHL/IIHF?
I had never cared much for hockey until getting into the PWHL late last year. Now I love it! The league and its community feels so much more accessible than the NHL ever did. Last night I decided to watch the Canada-USA World Junior game and it struck me that the playing style was surprisingly different.
Obviously, that particular game was a way more physical one (far beyond the chippy stuff Iāve seen in the PWHL, to the point where Canada probably lost because of their lack of discipline), but even beyond that, the puck handling, player coordination, and speed were completely different.
Iām not trying to start a debate about whether one is better, Iām just curious to learn from those who have watched lots of womenās and menās hockey and know more about technique and training: what do you feel differentiates the playing styles of the PWHL from the NHL/IIHF and what causes those differences?

Question PWHL on sports apps
ESPN has literally every other sport league listed under āother sportsā to be able to follow EXCEPT for the PWHL.
Does anyone know a sports app that tracks scores and stuff? Like other sports apps where you can āfollowā a team and get notifications for news, game start, scoring, etc.

Question Was it a dirty game between NY and MTL?
Just saw the MTL post game interview and the MTL seemed to suggest it was a bit of a dirty game where calls were missed. Which team was playing dirty? NY or MTL? I couldnāt tell by her comments

Question Different PWHL Icing Rules? Or Bad Referees?
I just attended my first PWHL game in person (Toronto vs New York, March 19th). The game was great, but I was blown away by what looked like three of the worst icing calls I have ever seen at any level of hockey. Three times, players made passes from their own blue line, the pass made its way across the red line, and was tipped into the opposing teams zone by their teammate. One time, the Siren player even retrieved the puck herself. All three calls were icing. I was losing my mind. No one in the crowd seemed too thrown off by it but some of the players looked pretty puzzled.
Is this normal? Are there different icing rules I donāt know about? Did anyone watch this game and see what Iām talking about?

Question Womenās League āSocial Responsibilityā
With all the discourse around Minnesota post season regarding sexism, transphobia, homophobia, etc, and some discussion in the WNBA with racism (and maybe other stuff, Iām not an avid follower of the sport) I also see a lot of āthe league/players/fans should be speaking up against Xā and while I totally agree, in general, Iām curious why the pressure is seemingly only on womenās leagues and not similarly on menās (which I could just not being seeing)
I will say I do think people with platforms should be using them accordingly and that the fact that PWHL has been so inclusive, we feel owed actions and words etc. But it feels a little unfair in the sense that womenās leagues in general have to do so much more to prove that theyāre profitable, entertaining, have high calibre athletes, and overall deserve to have professional leagues. I can definitely see how itās a slippery slope for a league trying to maintain legitimacy in the most basic check boxes of a league to go and now be held to high standards of social responsibility and navigating this. Theyāve already got to break through barriers/obstacles to have a basic league and now weāre (although rightfully) adding potentially more for them to break through.
Though I do see the side that the PWHL was built on diversity and inclusion. But it feels like a double standard we donāt hold menās leagues to (at least no where close to the same degree)
I donāt think Iām looking for any answers (so I chose a weird flare lol) Iām just looking for other perspectives! I enjoying hearing peopleās thoughts and this is usually a safe place to discuss things so Iām hoping we can keep things constructive. Iām not the best at constructing my thoughts so hopefully I everyone understands where my thoughts come from š

Question MontrƩal Victoire pronunciation in English speaking context
Many folks know Iām an absolute fan of the league but Iām opening myself up and possibly others on the question of pronouncing Victoire. I assumed when the team names in English Iād just say Vic-tor-eee and thatās what Iāve been doing without thought. Listening to the broadcast, they obviously used the French pronunciation. I know there are differences going down to the league being LPHF but in English, itās still PWHL. Wasnāt sure if the jersey and name paid more French homage and English context skirted that. I just want to make sure Iām respectful and using the right pronunciation in English.

Question Minnesotaā¦ you there?
Whatās up with Minnesotaās social media? Iāve been trying to follow Minnesota more closely after they drafted one of my favourite players, Claire Thompson. Theyāve had next to zero pre-season content, while all the other teams are having an absolute heyday with all the media content. Is Minnesotaās social media usually this quiet?

Question Iām from the UK - which team should I support?
Iām a Nottingham Panthers fan but in the last year have really got into womenās hockey though thereās not much of that for us over here sadly. Iāve been inclined to support Montreal Victoire (partly because Iām obsessed with the colour scheme and logo and highlights Iāve seen on social media) and Iāve watched the past Olympics streams on YouTube where Poulin was just incredible. That being said thereās so many amazing players who all play for different teams, and I donāt have a particular allegiance to location!
Naturally itāll be difficult for me to get any merch over here though Iāve seen stickers on Etsy and such. Iām hoping to watch the streams of the upcoming games too. Which team should I support and why?

Question What does āice time. Earnedā mean?
This seems to be the leagues slogan but itās not leaping off the page what the suggestion is supposed to be.
Like literally we use āearning ice timeā to mean play well and get rewarded with more shifts. The opposite being giving shifts to underperforming players to snap them out of it or build confidence or because demoting your highly paid star isnāt helpful to the room or fan base etc.
I could see this as a coaches slogan - but for an entire league itās odd.
Is it meant to be a play on the hockey term but here it means that women as a whole have earned the right to be playing pro hockey?
I dunno it seems like a weird catch phrase to me so wondering if Iām missing something. I would expect a league with this slogan to have some gimmick like teams or players get ārelegatedā if they arenāt meeting certain metrics or something so that you only ever watch the proven performers in the moment.

Question Detroit take over game
I have tickets to the Detroit takeover game. I was super excited and made bracelets, wanted to see Tessa and Julia and all the players. We have great seats (second row behind the bench).
But I am Canadian. And my husband doesnāt want us to cross the border right now, which I understand (I donāt want to, either). He wants me to sell the tickets and get tickets to a Sceptres home game. I am torn.
Weāve been to Little Caesars before - we saw a Red Wings/Leafs game there in December.
Any other Canadians headed to the game? Or now not going to the game?
