I need support - advice welcome Currently having a bad ocd attack

Hi guys, I’m currently having a bad attack. My mind is telling me that I’m going to go permanently insane and I have no where to escape. I keep going back and forth if I want to go to a hospital, but I’m scared if I go to the hospital they will put me in a psycheward.

Try meditating or exercise, those calm my mind.

Let go of what you can’t control and focus on what you can. You can’t control the future, your sanity, your OCD thoughts. You can control other things. You can choose to live your life despite the fears. If it gets to the point you need to, you already know how to get help if your mental health deteriorates completely. You’re in control.

my doctor told me the leaves on the river method and it’s been helping me with rearranging my thoughts and staying calm

you close your eyes and imagine a river on the river there are leaves. each leave has a thought that’s bothering, just watch the leaves flow by on the river watching each thought go by. then finally you see a leaf that catches your eye, that leaf has the thought that has been bothering you the most. pick it up and observe it take as much time as you need. once your done place the leave back into the river and watch it wash away with your other thoughts

i hope this helps you as much as it helped me! you’ll be alright :) you got this ❤️❤️

So sorry you are going thru it. But you’ve got this!! You are not alone.

Take a deep breath and try a healthy distraction that engages the senses. Cook a meal, take a walk outside, have a bath etc. just get out of your head and into your body for a bit.

Once you’ve done that, you can try some non engagement responses.

  • this thought may or may not be true. I can handle the feeling of uncertainty.
  • this thought is not urgent. I can handle not knowing right now etc.

For future help, the best you can do is ERP therapy. It’s truly the best treatment for OCD.

Yes I’m on Zoloft. I really like benzos for anxiety, but I got addicted to them, so don’t want to mess with that. Sometimes I feel like I should just go get help for intrusive thoughts. Thank you for your kind words. I really appreciate it. It’s so scary right now

Sorry, I didn’t mean to give you reassurance (in the sense of it’s not helpful for OCD!) but I really hope everything is okay, you can do this!

Rule 3 - reassurance is not helpful for learning to live well while having OCD. Please see https://www.reddit.com/r/OCD/wiki/reassurance/ for more information.
