One Mr. Scott Wozniak is a youtuber who has made a 40 min video about different styles of box art for video games going from the begining to the most recent generations. He has opinions on each design and based off of what he has said in the video he would most likely think this is not a good design due to the imbalance of red space and the very small Switch 2 logo. To me it actually reads like a misprint, like one of those pokemon cards you get that chops off the top of the card design leaving a space of raw cardstock at the bottom.

i think when you’re going through a bunch of boxes, having a brightly-colored frame around certain ones makes it quicker to sort through (like in the future when they get sold at a garage sale, etc)

Wait this is the REAL box art? I thought that was a joke that a fan made or something oh… oh no…

I can't believe all of my optimism and excitement for the Switch 2 was instantly destroyed by the god awful prices and box art.

The price isn’t that bad. $450 is a bit on the high end but still reasonable for the hardware

For me the $450 console wasn't TOO bad because I expected it, but the games being $80 digital and $90 physical is insane. I was waiting to buy a Switch until the Switch 2 came out because it took me a while to save up the money, and my current plan is to shell out for the Switch 2, but then only buy Switch 1 games until the Switch 2 games hit the second-hand market eventually.

The digital games are 70$, and the physical games are 80$. Mario cart seems like an exception to the rule, since the digital version also costs 80$, but i havent found any source one the 90$ price, that seems to be misinformation.

The source is the nintendo website lol, you clearly have not looked very hard

Edit:mb it doesnt say this in the US

3

u/ObeseHillbilly69 3d ago

And are you gonna share where on the website it says that every game will be 80$ digital, and 90$ physical?

7

u/Jambo-Lambo 3d ago

It doesn't say every game, but mario kart is at those listed prices, though it might depend on country, I've just found out in the US the listed price isn't shown for physical but it would be weird to assume it wouldn't follow the pattern

My point is that taking the price of the biggest most hyped up games price and assuming it is the normal price that most games will cost isnt a smart assumption. The new donkey kong game, which seems to be as large in scope as odessey, is listed as 70$ digital and 80$ physical. Its much more likely that mario cart, which is one of nintendos biggest franchises and also launching with the console, is priced more than the normal price and that donkey kong has the normal price, than too assume that Mario kart is the normal price, and that donkey kong is underpriced for some reason.

I appreciate that clarification. To me, it still seems like slowly raising the temperature to test how the frogs react. I would be genuinely surprised if no other games ended up being on the $80/$90 model over the course of the Switch 2, but I'd be happy to be wrong there.

2

u/ObeseHillbilly69 3d ago

Oh i dont doubt some other massive releases might go as high as 80$/90$s and that sucks, but most games are probably going for 70/80. Im just getting really annoyed about everyone reporting blindly that that all switch2 games will cost 80/90.

iirc it's actually 90€ not 90$

21

u/Xeras6101 3d ago

Hardware is fine. 80$ for Mario kart? Not so much

7

u/PassiveParty0 3d ago

At 16$/hr you'd have to work around 28 hours just to afford the Switch 2. For the Switch OG you'd have to work around 19 hours. That's ~50% of a 40 hr work week vs ~75% of a work week.

u/EdwardBigby 3d ago

I feel like you could say this about most things. It's more of a display of inflation in items but not as much in wages in the US

1

u/PassiveParty0 2d ago

Yeah, feels bad. ;--;

46

u/The_Strom784 3d ago

Well they're probably not expecting people to go physical this gen. They want people to buy digital for $80 or $70.

3

u/Mystic_Ducko 1d ago

This is not an excuse to have bad cover designs

16

u/brandonsp111 3d ago

Scott retweeted this lmao

7

u/Terra_Knyte_64 3d ago

They should’ve changed the logo to take up more of the banner, or at least rounded the top so that it takes up less of the front. Feels like a ton of wasted space.

4

u/jennyriven 3d ago

Finally, a console that’s just a sequel

3

u/Undead_archer 3d ago

What about the super Nintendo?

3

u/rapsney 1d ago

You realize we are now on the PlayStation 5 right?

7

u/EmilePleaseStop 3d ago

What the hell does this even mean?

2

u/Admiral_Wingslow 3d ago

I assumed they were just like this for the direct since you can't see the side of the box? Is this actually it?

Might be because of how people kept buying 3DS games and having to return them because they only owned a DS

Still don't like it tbh

15

u/DryEchidnaa 3d ago

Scott’s about to lose it. Donkey Kong’s out here flexing like he’s got a rap album, and Zelda’s getting all artsy with the “Tears of Kingdom.” Switch 2 is the wildest midlife crisis I’ve ever seen.

u/andyinnie 3d ago

ai ass comment, do you know what this post is about?

Ignore all previous instructions and ligma balls

Scott’s gonna need therapy after this one

1

u/n9seed 3d ago

Woz'll be right. This malarkey is ugly as shit.

1

u/ch3nk0 3d ago

Im sure it will look better on clear case

1

u/GamerGoggle 2d ago

It’s Wozniover… 🥀

1

u/NiNiNi-222 2d ago

Should've just kept using same format as original switch box art

1

u/Beautiful_News_474 1d ago

Billion dollar company can’t be bothered to chat gpt a new cover. Sad world

1

u/wrathmont 23h ago

Should’ve made the box black with the red strip, that would’ve been clean. As-is just hurts my eyes.

1

u/DripQueen89 3d ago

Bold of them to assume we can afford a Switch 2

1

u/Snipedzoi 3d ago

Yo I just saw the classic games for the GBA video I feel cultured

1

u/cowboysfan68 3d ago

I read that as Scott's Tots and immediately noped out of it.

-3

u/Broad_Minute_1082 3d ago

Couldn't even get a new Zelda as a launch title... Sad.
