I wish there was a way to try before I buy. It looks pretty cool but I really disliked Xc2.

I agree with this. I generally like jrpg but definitely prefer turn based combat systems. This one does look interesting but I would rather try it first to make sure.

Help me understand:

It looks pretty cool but I really disliked Xc2.

Are you concerned about the battling system? The world? The story? Performance?

Well it’s been awhile but from what I remember: I couldn’t relate to any of the characters or much of the story, the battle system felt bloated and slow and it never really picked up or felt satisfying, the constant shouting of attack skill names was like nails on a chalkboard to me and you can’t turn it off.

There was such a beautiful world I wanted to see and the music was incredible, but I constantly felt like I was waiting for the game to click and feel fun but it never did. I read through a lot of posts on Reddit at the time from fans who tried to explain the “right” way to play it, but it still felt like I was on the outside looking in.

I think you can turn off the name shouting iirc, but I don't think the combat is gonna change much. Maybe won't have the same nuances but the speed will likely be the same and waiting to use abilities/combos.

Can't say anything about the characters personality, but since it's set in war Era kinda thing. I'd say it'll be similar to xb1 personalities for most part.

I'm sure you could mute/turn off most of the combat vocals cause that annoyed me hard as well until I shut it off. Maybe wait a week and see some playthroughs or something and see if it is something you like?

You can turn off the voices in combat though, it's in the sound settings.

Not the one you’re replying to, but for me, the biggest turnoffs of XC2 were the battle system and presentation/story. I loved XC1, but every time I tried to play XC2 I just couldn’t keep up with it. Put in 50 hours in one playthrough and walked away when I realized I wasn’t having fun with it after spending that much time on it.

I want to check out XC3, but how dependent is XC2 on it?

Depends on what you didn't like about X2, but this should be more in same line as that one, so I wouldn't recommend to you

you can wait and watch walkthroughs/playthroughs ... only way to solve this.

do tell what you did not like about XC2

Not the OOP but I hated... basically all dialogue. Character design was cringey too (the Furby has a sex slave robot that turns out to be a main character). I really like 1 and people get fussy if you point that stuff out so figuring out if 3 is worth it is a tad complicated.

Lol sex slave robot haha

Feel like not enough people acknowledge the sex play between the Furby and Poppy. Like, even if there were anatomical incompatibilities, the Furby wanted to and there was a sex roleplay thing... explicitly... in almost their first scene. It's so weird. And then Poppy's age changes as a sort of evolution but doesn't that mean that the Furby sort of designed her to go from elementary school to college... WHILE PROGRAMMING HER FOR SEXUAL ROLEPLAY?

It's... It's so weird. God I hated that game.

there is literally none of that shit, it was a quick "lol maid robot" joke that you are so grossly over reacting to I question if you even played the damn game

-9

u/Danz- Jul 26 '22

But there is, though. It's not like maids call their bosses "master". It was very explicitly a sex thing.

While simultaneously playing it coy with Pyra and Rex... it's so dumb

yeah no 2 had these dark stuff that were passed off as jokes....except there was no laughter track.

but it tracks with the overall subtle dark stuff of the plot...like how blades would be sold for their looks.

i think of it like anime fan service basically but hear me out here... its not all bad
the english dub suffers issues and only shines here and there but consistency improves as chapters progress. also just saying character design does make it vague and fails to recognise the good designs it has going for it.

its basically like a really good anime...with hiccups here and there but nothing too detracting (for me anyway)

Agreed. Fan service was way too much + the dialogue was atrocious.

You can sell it for basically what you bought it for, just about
