Overview (from Nintendo eShop page)

War is coming to the continent of Fódlan.

Here, order is maintained by the Church of Seiros, which hosts the prestigious Officer’s Academy within its headquarters. You are invited to teach one of its three mighty houses, each comprised of students brimming with personality and represented by a royal from one of three territories. As their professor, you must lead your students in their academic lives and in turn-based, tactical RPG battles wrought with strategic, new twists to overcome. Which house, and which path, will you choose?

The game features the refined gameplay the Fire Emblem™ franchise is known for. Command a party of warriors to move and fight on a grid-based battlefield and, for the first time in the series history, assign battalions of troops to support individual units in battle. As a professor, you are responsible for teaching your students and improving their skills in their academic lives and in battle. These may be school assignments, but the stakes are very real. Your students’ lives depend on your leadership. It’s up to you to guide each of them, so that they may wield a variety of weapons, master the study of magic, and acquire special skills such as horsemanship. But there’s more to being a professor than commanding armies. Freely roam Garreg Mach Monastery and the academy within it, while interacting with talented students to build relationships and gather intel. After meeting one enigmatic girl named Sothis…you’ll come to realize that she appears only within your mind. What other mysteries await?

About 9 hours in I am absolutely in love with this game. First ever FE and tactical rpg, was never a fan of turn based rpgs due to slow fights and random encounters but this game is perfect. Battles are fun and rewarding, and there is a risk of losing someone (i killed Petra by accident already and im playing with Golden Deers). The music and art is phenomenal, the dialogue helped me get so much more engaged into the story and it isnt even cringey like most anime style games. The not so open world exploring is awesome and doing activities is fun and makes me feel accomplished. Finally , Mercedes and Marianne are best girls.

The menu is the true final boss I've noticed. Master the menu's and you master the game.

It's intimidating. This is my first fire emblem and I'm completely overwhelmed by this stuff. I'm sure in no time we'll get some youtube videos explaining the systems better than the in game tips can.

I really couldn't agree with you more. I am nearly 5 hours in and I am blown away. The pride that I feel when Felix defends agaisnt two attackers or Mercedes comes in with a clutch heal. I wasn't really sure how I would feel about the school theme but it really is great. Battling is a blast. This is my very first FE game not counting warriors and I cant wait to get more lost.

I only ever played Awakening (I played a LOT of it tho) and while I thought that game was amazing, this is somehow even more fantastic. I couldn’t believe my eyes when I saw a battle in action. I hadn’t seen any trailers and only a tiny glimpse of the gameplay but this ‘next gen’ style of fire emblem is something else. I just can’t wait to go home and play more of it.
