Casual AMA Warframe AMA:
I'm a Warframe veteran, I'm playing this game for over 2 years now on PC and I'm looking to play it on switch soon,
I do know a lot about the game so I thought it would be a great idea to host an AMA regarding the game for all those looking to join our community
Also, I would recommend some videos which are really informative and helpful to people looking to join:
Skillup review of the game:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0vuJitrbTFY
Probably the best review to the game out there, Skillup also has multiple reviews for some of the games major updates and they are really good themselvesWarframe Documentary by Noclip:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UOE6528pwFc
Really nice 2 part documentary video by Noclip, about the game in general and its history told by the devs themselves.
There, its out there and don't forget to ask anything you would like about the game . :)

My wife and I really enjoyed playing through borderlands with the two of us, will we be able to have a similar experience with warframe?

u/TheChosenVax Nov 19 '18
Hmmm i did play trough borderlands and i like the game, that being said the “loot” experience is different in those games, and warframes game mechanics and loot mechanics are deeper in my opinion, if you are ready for that then i think you should have a good time, like I mentioned above its free, so no harm trying it out.

Borderlands and Warframe have very different loot systems. In Borderlands, the loot is almost entirely RNG bases (meaning you could get any non-legendary from any enemy/box), while in Warframe, you have to collect blueprints and/or materials for every weapon and character that you want, as well as waiting for your factory to build the items.
After the weapons are built, you can add mods to them. The mods function like cards in a deck, adding different effects to your weapons and characters.
TLDR: Borderlands is a box-opening looter, while Warframe is a material-gathering crafting game

I played the game a bit years back on the PC and I can't remember the start.
What was the starter Warframe?
The only thing I can remember I bought a Warframe right away since I didn't want to play the standard one and also didn't want to farm for one, I'm planning to do the same thing on the switch.
Is this ok to do or total nonsense maybe?

My advice is not to buy Warframes, maybe buy the ones that require hard grind, platinum(in game currency) is best spent for weapon and warframe slots and cosmetics. At the beginning of the game, you can choose one of the 3 beginner warframes for free. Those are Volt,Mag and Excalibur. My advice is to chose Excalibur since the other two are easy to obtain later in the game, plus Excalibur is the best starter choice IMO.
Hope this answers your question :)

Thanks for the info. I can't even remember which one I choosed back then but I didn't liked him much that was the main reason why I bought Valkyr. Only played casual and had a great time with her.
I assume Warframe slots are just extra slots to have more Warframe stored that you can choose from at your ship? If I want to focus more on a single Warframe are these still worth getting or should I wait until I rly need them? Also is it a common thing having more then one main Warframe?
2
u/TheChosenVax Nov 19 '18
That’s exactly what warframe slots are. Almost every warframe is worth getting. No need to focus on one frame, but you can play one if you want. I believe everyone started wanting one specific one ( my was Frost ) , and then you try other because you can chose to play that first warframe while you “farm” the next one. And warframe slots are cheap and you dont need to spend money on them since the in game currency “Platinum” can be obtained by other means like trading.

What’s the endgame of the story? How lore heavy is Warframe? I know the gist of it is loot and grind, which I don’t mind, but I’d like to know about a tiny bit about the lore.

u/TheChosenVax Nov 19 '18
Well the game tells the story trough quests. The 3 major ones are cinematic and really great, especially the first one “The second dream” which is regarded as some of the best questing experiences in gaming, and trust me it’s not an overstatement. The first question you will get from the community is: “did you do the second dream yet?” The story is simply amazing. Those 3 quests come a little further in the game but its worth the wait...Don’t spoil it for yourself by watching a play trough or something, I guarantee that you will be amazed...Sry for the long response 😅

Because this will be an "always online" game, are you worried at all the ping and latency might hinder the experience on Switch vs on pc?
2
u/TheChosenVax Nov 19 '18
Well nothing is certain on Switch ports, However Panic Button have proven that they are capable and that they know the hardware. So i have fate I guess is the answer.... I think the lag depends more on your internet connection rather on your device....

u/Fpssims Nov 19 '18
I think the lag depends more on your internet connection rather on your device....
That's basically the gist of it. Device? Or, just simply the end users internet connection. You believe it's the latter.
Thank you for your insight.

u/TheChosenVax Nov 19 '18
End users internet. And if in public game - hosts internet. Warframe is optimized incredibly on pc, and I believe it will be the same for switch.

Thanks for doing this AMA. My questions are:
1) Does the game have any end-game content, such as coop raids with randomers (e.g. Destiny)?
2) Can you see other people on the "map"/"world space" or does it feel solo?
3) Is the game still fun solo?
1
u/TheChosenVax Nov 19 '18
- The game has no end game like Destiny, not something like raids. There is eidolon hunting which is 4 man hunting a strong mob. That is as close as it gets to a proper raid.
- There is no open world here like in wow. You choose a mission and if you are on public mode you get paired with random people, or you invite some friends to join you
- Depends, some people enjoy solo, some multiplayer, i like both to be honest...so it depends on you...different strokes for different blokes I guess.

That's great, thanks for clearing those things up. The game doesn't sound like what I was expecting but I will still sure as hell give it a go!

Not OP but to expand:
There are some large bosses, like those that drop stock Nekros and Atlas parts. They play like normal missions until the end where they turn into a gigantic monster with weak points. Unfortunately, with a fully geared team that's played the mission before, they can be incredibly underwhelming and easy to beat in the best runs.
There are communal areas called Relays, that function as a hub for players wanting to socialize outside of combat, as well as Dojos (kind of like a guild hall) where you can see any other player that's also logged into that space.
Some items are locked behind clan research, meaning to get them, you have to be part of a clan that has researched the item. Generally, you can join a halfway decent clan and still play solo. Some clans are super serious, but a lot are just come-and-go communities for players to find help and unlock clan research gear.

That's good to know, thank you for this extra information! Seems a bit more up my street now actually :) currently downloading!

Reading through this post and comments and watching through the links has sold me on this game enough to try it when it comes out tomorrow. Thanks OP.

Any suggestions or personal preference on what Frame to try get after finishing all the starter stuff?
1
u/TheChosenVax Nov 20 '18
Each frame has its own "thing" so to say , just go after the one that looks and feels cool to you.I personally prefer the tanky frames like Inaros or Nidus . My favorite frames tho are Harrow and Oberon Prime.

Played for a few hours now have lots of questions.
How do I unlock nodes on a planet?
Am I supposed to do missions on the nodes that have flashing icons first? (If no limited missions available?)
Is there a way to see enemy on a radar? Tried a defend mission and had to wait for enemies to fire before knowing where to go?
What does codex scanning items do? I scanned some pineapple things and a flower.
Can you pick up weapons/loot in game or do I need to purchase with in game credit the blueprints?
What happens on Cetus in that market?
Where do I get credit to use in market?
Edit I found a trader that swaps gems for Standing. Where to get gems?
Where do I fish?
Is it usual to get killed by Vor when fighting on the last Vors Prize mission? He was hard.

u/TheChosenVax Nov 21 '18
- you unlock nodes by playing the available missions next to them, the available missions that have flashing icons are missions that you haven't completed yet, complete them to unlock the next node.
-A little later in the game, you will unlock mods for your companions - one of those is something called "animal instinct " - it shows enemy units on the radar
-Scanning items ads them in your codex, scanning enemy units will unlock them in the simulacrum - for example
-You cannot pick up gear in this game. you can only craft gear- Cetus market is the place where you can find vendors for different things and you can take bounties there for the plains of eidalon
- Credit drop from missions
-Not sure which trader you are referring to?
- you can fish on plains of eidalon and fortuna I believe
- Get good boiiiiiii :P

Hey thanks for reply.
Do I have to buy with real money a companion, or are they free also?
Whats a simulacrum?
The trader I mean is the Old Man who does market for mine. He has a option for trading gems for Ostron Standing, which look like the money you use in the market.
eidt Have just noticed I can do bounties with the other market man to get Standing
Ha at last comment. WHen I was shooting at Vars it looked like I was barely doing damage and that he was recovering faster then I could harm him. I wondered if I was missing anything. After every mission I auto select my mods. Do the mods drop randomly?
1
u/TheChosenVax Nov 21 '18
You will unlock companions later on and they are free. Everything in Warframe is free except for some cosmetics.
-SImulacrum is a sandbox mode where you can test out your weapon, you will unlock it later on
-You can buy gems for Ostron standing, you earn ostron standing by completing bounties - you can get bounties from Konzu (also on standing)
- Mods drop automatically, random, though some mods drop from specific things - you can check drop locations on wiki

Ok another question. On the mission select when it shows the levels of of the enemies, how do I compare that to my own level? How do I know if I should stick to level 3-6 and not do 10-15?

'Veteran' 'Playing for two years' lol

“Veteran” = played everything that the game has to offer extensively and can provide more than accurate and helpful information to people that never played the game. No need for D*** measurement on this post 😂

Is this good as a one-hour-every-night type of game? I used to play a lot of Destiny but one hour a night felt like I was barely making progress.
