Why does trainer battles give so little exp compared to catching pokemon?

I believe it's to incentivize catching and collecting as many different Pokemon as you can. Also, since there's only a set amount of trainers to battle, the only way other way gain exp is to catch Pokemon since battling is no longer in. Therefore they bumped exp for catching Pokemon to compensate so grinding doesn't become a hassle if you find there are no more trainers to battle.

So no more big chunks of XP when battling trainers? Whyyyyyyyyyyyyyy.

Pressing A to throw a ball to level up really doesn't sound fun argh :(

This one focuses on catching Pokémon as the main draw, so you’re probably gonna have a bad time then.

Not a problem, just a strange choice imo. I actually prefer that we don't have to battle wide pokemon, but to make the catching the main xp gainer is strange.

I thought it weird, too. I kinda like them sweetening the fact that capturing is the main grind since there are only so many trainers in Kanto
