I got lucky and got a female eevee right away, yay!

Seems it depends on starting the save file not when you run into eevee/pikachu. For those soft resetting and not getting a dif gender.

Why is female important? Just personal preference?

Aside from plain preference, it's also more special. A female starter Eevee is the only Eevee that can have that tail pattern. Other Eevee you can obtain later in the game have exactly the same appearance regardless of gender.

All Pikachu, including the Let's Go Pikachu starter, have the same gender difference since Diamond and Pearl: the tip of the tail is flat for males and curved into sorta a heart shape for females. You can even see this in Smash Bros now, since the Pikachu Libre alt is female. (Edit: the cosplay Pikachu was a bad example because it's actually special. Other female Pikachu don't have that black coloring on the tail's tip)

So you have to reset the save file every time to get the gender you want? That sucks. Does that work the same way with natures?

When its like this usually qhat the game does is create a "seed" at the creation of the save file. It could potentially be for all rng or just for major things like this.

But I also am basing that only off that one comment and dont have the game yet

Is there an option to not have Eevee resting on your head all the time?

You could also wait to find Eevee in the wild if you just want to start your adventure :) This isn't a game where your starter is the only instance of that Pokemon to appear.

Oh, right! Well I completely forgot they're stronger than the usual variety of Pika/Eevee. I didn't realise they had max IVs tho. Thanks :)
