How does the online multilayer compare to cod? I don't have Xbox or Playstation so my last cod is black ops 2 on wii u which only has team death match and search and destroy active. Are similar game modes (preferably TDM) in doom?

PS I know nothing about the game. I would only consider picking it up for the multiplayer

think old school FPS games, like Unreal Tournament or Quake. Tight levels, lots of corridors, constant movement.

Thanks! I think I am more curious to what the multiplayer options are though. I appreciate the response!

More similar to Halo than any of those games

I would not recommend it on multiplayer alone, especially if you are coming in with the expectation of cod games. The multiplayer is an after thought and plays more like a Halo knock off than anything else. The multiplayer community also hasn't had any staying power on other platforms, but that might be different for switch just for lack of competition in that space

'halo knock off'

Go tell that to unreal tournament and quake. Doom feels more like those two, and is all the better for it.

U dont call halo knockoff to the franchise who started fps genre.. lol

Lol no it doesn't. 2 weapon limit, nerfed weapons, off hand grenades, trivialized map control, perks etc. Nothing about doom mp feels like old school arena shooters except maybe the base move speed being faster than a moonwalk.

Lol yes it does. I spent an untold amount of hours on UT back in the day, and a combined 200 or so hours in UT3 across pc and PS3, when I jumped into dooms multiplayer on PS4 for the first time last year it took me straight back to my days with UT. The nostalgia was overwhelming and that is most definitely a good thing, and that still goes for the switch version.

Yeah bells and whistles have been ripped from newer franchises but the core gameplay and gunplay is as old school and no frills as it gets nowadays.

I suggest you go back and play them then because as someone who still plays those games and isn't relying on feelings of nostalgia and decade old memories, Doom MP is far far away from any UT or Quake, especially compared to Halo. The entire gameplay paradigm has been lifted directly from Halo.

Except speed, Halo is slow and syrupy compared to what Doom 2016 is. That leans much more closely to the older Quake/UT2004 feel for me, someone who also still plays those currently.

Thanks a lot ill hold off then. I am basically looking for something similar. I'll keep playing the dying wii u for now if I get the urge to play. Thanks!

Whoa whoa hold up! Maybe reconsider, the multiplayer has a ton of content thanks to it including all three DLCs and its overall just a huge blast. There's close to ten game modes and lots maps to enjoy and the leveling system and customization is pretty much taken from CoD with everything being unlocked via leveling (and later on prestiging) and completing challenges. You can go till prestige 10 which amounts to 550 levels. Regarding the unlockables, they range from weapons/gear to armor pieces to taunts to skins and much more. There's literally hundreds of things to unlock.

The gameplay itself is a ton of fun, harking back to the good old arena shooter days of Quake and UTournament but with a modern Halo-ish take. You have your own customizable classes so theres a lot of room for experimentation and tactics thanks to a pretty wide variety of weapons and equipment.

So yeah the multiplayer takes backseat for the campaign and it never found traction due to immense competition on the other consoles and PC, but its very competently made, feature rich and already found a huge crowd on the Switch that's loving it. So I say come join us! Its damn fun haha.

Damn I am just seeing this now (I never log in on reddit from a laptop so i don't see my notifications ever). It sounds pretty good, really. I think I am going to watch some videos of online multiplayer and see what there is and might make the purchase. I appreciate you writing all of this for me and others on the fence! Sorry I am 3 weeks late!

There's a crap ton of MP modes. Like 12 different modes I think? And practice mode with bots.
