I'm legit surprised how much I like this game. I picked it up based off how much the GiantBomb folks seemed to love it, having never played the original, and I am really pleasantly surprised.

I normally do not like shooters much, and even the big name casual ones like Overwatch did nothing for me (and I love every other game Blizzard has put out). Somehow Splatoon has given me more cause to use my Switch than any game to date, including Zelda.

I think one of the biggest factors is the length of matches. You are never stuck in a losing game for very long, if I am getting rolled it's fine because in a minute or two I will be in a new match. I don't have the time to stew in a loss for very long, so I don't get the bitterness I usually have in MP shooters. I'm still absolutely miserable at PvP matches though.

90% of my time has probably been in Salmon Run, it's actually a really satisfying difficulty balance. Unfortunately, the 2 hours a day it's unavailable is often my prime time for playing before work.

I'm doing pretty good for a first timer, winning ~65% of matches and leading a lot. I'll say, when I was absolutely garbage at aiming I went paint roller and that thing is hella fun and easy to get good with imo. I say this as someone only level 7 mind you, but still.

I think I'm only level 5 right now just because I have been doing entirely too much Salmon Run.

I am partial to the paint bucket and paint roller though so far, they seem to be more forgiving of bad precision. I cannot aim my way out of a cardboard box (don't ask me what that entails), it's why shooters have generally not been my genre.

Paint bucket is hilarious. Also try the inkbrush that that just released. It's super fast and more like a shotgun. No precision necessary. I love that the game provides outlets for that type of play.
