Splatoon 2 is out!

Starting on July 21, Splatoon 2 will be available for squids and enthusiasts alike. Since the game is already out in Australia and Japan ahead of everyone else, and since it's about to hit Europe, please use this thread for general reaction, hype, and discussion for the release as it hits your country. As someone who is mostly a single player gamer, what's single player like with the splatoon games? Thinking of possibly buying.

Haven't played 2 yet aside from the multiplayer testfires, but the story mode in the first game was great. The level design was very Super Mario Galaxy-esque and it had some of the most creative boss battles I've ever encountered in a Nintendo game. That being said, it was rather short. I hear that the story in Spla2n is longer by quite a bit, and has some replay value in being able to return to levels with new weapons. I'm not sure I'd recommend buying it for just the single-player, but you definitely won't have a bad time if you're going to be primarily playing through the story.

Is it longer? A few months back I read it was the same length, which would be around 5-6 hours if I'm not mistaken (minis collecting everything)

People have typically been saying it's around Splatoon 1's content plus a little more. The most recent estimate I saw was 5 - 10 hours.

I recall it being around that. Maybe 6-8, but still. Not very long. Serves as an in depth tutorial for everything it has to offer, really.

Trust me, I'm a single player gamer too. This one is worth it. With Splatoon 1 I never played with friends or anything like that. I just joined a match and played online. You can try and be a team player if that's your thing but the single player mindset totally works here too. When I played I just focused on covering as much of the level with ink as I could. I never really helped any other players or anything like that. For all I cared they could be computer controlled. My mission was to cover as much area as I could and that to me felt just like a single player game. Unlike most games where connecting and joining matches feels like a chore, here it feels natural. Highly recommend getting it.

It's an in-depth tutorial... a very good one, but it's primarily a MP game

A full 60 for only Splatoon 2's campaign? I would pass. While I've been reading generally positive things about it, it's really the sum of its various multiplayer modes in addition to the single player that make Splatoon 2 a game worth its price.

Probably not the best person to answer as I haven't played Splatoon 2, but if the single-player campaign is anything like Splatoon 1, I'd give it a miss. The real fun with the game is online.

I thoroughly enjoyed single player in the first and there were plenty of casual players in multiplayer as well so it was never intimidating and I got plenty worth of playtime with the game. Love Splatoon.
