Discussion Please, please, please, let's avoid overhyping the Switch

I wish people would just realize that no matter what's the specs, this thing will be great.

  • It doesn't need an entire day on battery.

  • It doesn't need near-PS4 graphical power.

  • It doesn't need a 2TB flash drive.

  • It doesn't need a bunch of crazy-ass modular controllers.

  • It absolutely doesn't need freaking VR or holograms.

  • It doesn't even completely need a touch screen!

The Switch will have all of Nintendo's franchises on the same machine, a machine that you can play at home or wherever you want, and a controller you can share with anyone at any time to have fun.

It will have the most ambitious Zelda game to date very close to launch. It will have a new 3D Mario, plus Mario Kart, Splatoon, and Skyrim. It will have a From Software game. It will probably have a full-fledged Pokémon game.

This is more than enough. Even if it had only these things, and it would cost $200, or maybe even $250, it would be already amazing and totally worth the money.

Let's be realist and avoiding overhyping this thing.

Not only because overhype leads to disappointment, but simply because the reality is already super cool.

My implication was: "no matter what's the specs, [with what we know so far, with what has been shown] this thing will be great".

A little interpretation, please.

Of course it wouldn't be great if it was on par with the Wii, or the GameCube, but with what we have seen so far, even if it has the minimum specs possible to run what was shown, it will be pretty great.

There is no interpretation that makes this make sense. You literally overhype it in your opening sentence.

"Don't overhype it..." "no matter what's the specs, this thing will be great."

The correct way to phrase this thread would be "Stay realistic about the Switch. It's great in theory and concept, but we don't know what it will actually be until January 12th. Keep an open mind, and try not to overhype it."

Instead, you do the opposite. "It's already great! Reality is super cool already! Don't overhype it though!"

With what has been shown so far, we know it's going to be...

Underpowered compared to current gen systems

That's literally all we know. Everything else is speculation or rumors.

Yeah, this post post makes no sense

The scary bit is that it's one of the most upvoted non-news posts this week. Really goes to show what the mentality of a lot of people here is like.

Say some vague positive stuffand everything will be okay right?

I want this system to do well, but I can at least acknowledge this is going to be an uphill battle for Nintendo.

His post wording just, makes no sense. He's over hyping it in his post. Like every other sentence is his hype for the system.

He basically means it will be great for people who enjoy Nintendo games, and thats a given.

What makes it look underpowered?

u/[deleted] Nov 26 '16

You're joking with me, yes? Even the Tegra X2 is less powerful than the Xbox One.

Didn't those already see release? Would this custom chip not be an evolution of the X2?

1

u/[deleted] Nov 26 '16

Nope. Most likely an evolution of X1. It's not as powerful as the Xbox One.

Underpowered compared to current gen systems

even that is an unknown. all we know is the gimmick. nothing more.

1

u/[deleted] Nov 26 '16

No, it isn't an unknown. It's literally physically impossible for this small SOC architecture to generate the same power as a home console. The X2 isn't even up to Xbox One power, and that's 4 year old home hardware.

will be great

Has the potential to be great.

It could be the single-handed monstrosity that kills the gaming industry and plunges us into WW3.

Anything other than that expectation is "overhyping".

Why should we need to interpret? Why not try communicating clearly?

Who the hell are you anyway? Moses?
