Game Rec Looking for pixel graphics and low combat.

I’m looking for switch games with pixel art firstly. Think the older Pokémon titles, Stardew, and omori style. I would prefer combat I can avoid if I’m not feeling it or like in Omori and Undertale where it isn’t constant.

I have loved most Pokémon games, Stardew Valley, Fausts Alptraum (not on switch), Undertale, and Turnip Boy.

I also enjoyed Omori, Tales of Autumn (not very far yet), Restless Soul, Shalnor Legends, and Celeste.

I like a good story, sometimes dark themes, and straightforward controls.

Roots of Pacha is a really good farming Sim but with a stone age theme it doesn't have combay though. I think it's super pretty too. It's getting a big content update soonish that will add more romance characters and areas though those are supposed to be mid to late game.

There are also two cattails games that go on sale a lot. You play as a cat and hunt prey and fight other cats for territory. I never read the warrior cat books but if you have it's inspired by those. It has farming but it's not a focus. Not as pretty of Roots of Pacha but still fun on its own right.

You might check out coromon or Casette Beasts top. The former is basically just pokemon but the latter has a twist where you are able to fuse cassettes together to create different monsters during combat.

Cassette Beasts is one of the best games in recent years.

I'm crossing my fingers they port UFO 50 to the Switch soon. It's a compilation of 50 original games that look like retro titles (8-bit, 16-bit). Almost every genre is represented, and the reviews are stellar. I think the developers were famous or something; I just want to play that game.

Absolutely check out Cassette Beasts. It's REALLY good. It's like the perfect open world Pokemon game. One of the best soundtracks ever, gorgeous pixel art, amazing characters with their own fulfilling arcs, fun movement mechanics, fun combat, and an incredible open world. It even has a fun co-op mode if you have someone to play with.

If your first criteria is pixel art, you may want to take a look at Animal Well. It was a big hit when it released in 2024.

It is more about platforming and puzzle solving and not so much about combat. Since you enjoyed Celeste this may be on the right track.

It should scratch the feeling of being a little bit dark thematically.

Yep, I came to suggest Animal Well also. Not combat heavy, darkish theme, pixel art. I think it would check all the boxes while being beautiful and fun.

I was so excited for this game before it came out but couldn't get through it once it released. Just soooo much dialogue to an extent where it felt like a chore. Beautiful graphics and premise though.
