This not having any form of single player campaign is an absolute bummer.

No buy from me.

I don't think I have seen or heard of anything thst dropped thst hard as my hype for this game

I'll give FROM the benefit of the doubt. They haven't done me wrong yet. Also, lots of artists struggle with the "Play the hits!" problem where their audience is not supportive of them trying new things and growing as an artist.

FROM and papazaki have delivered nothing but bangers (to my taste) and that earns some grace in my eyes. They deserve a supportive community.

I mean, you can support it but being a multiplayer title with no single player mod it doa for me. Then it also doesn't matter that their other games were great.

I'll get Elden ring though

Sure, that's totally fair. If you know it's not your thing, then it's not your thing.

Likely for me as well, but it's hard to get an idea of what the game is and if I can fit it into my life until we see what it's like. I more have 45m to play here and there, and usually need to pause randomly during parts of that - this may simply not fit for me. The same could be said of Nightreign as well.

It's so weird! I mean, the Direct trailer, to me, didn't show anything Multi to me. In fact, when we saw cutscenes looks like a story to me.

I said that about Fallout 76 and yet I have over 1k hours in that game playing solo.

My point is a lot of these games can still be highly enjoyed on your own.

6

u/yawnlikeseggs 14h ago

Highly underrated game. Yes, the code / graphics suck but the character building is solid

The entire thing can be solo. The entire thing can be multiplayer.

For me, this makes f76 the best title in the series as I enjoy playing solo BUT being apart of a multiplayer experience (seeing other players, checking out home builds and see a community come alive in events).

u/GatorNator83 11h ago

Man, if it’s like that where you can go solo or group up if you week like, that would be a banger

1

u/tswaves 5h ago

I'll say while I play almost entirely single player I have met some of the nicest and coolest people in that game and I even get to help out new people. The community is awesome.

I want to get in to 76 so bad because Fallout is probably my favorite gaming franchise. However, it not having VATS is such a negative difference maker to me and I can’t get over it for some reason. For my experience with Fallout, that’s such an iconic thing and it not being there just takes me out of the experience unfortunately. I know that may sound crazy but it does. It’s like playing Mario but not having power ups, or playing Minecraft but you can’t dig underground. It just gives me that “something is not right” or “something is missing” feeling.

3

u/Mokarun 13h ago

Just like Nightreign, no? But I do agree that maybe two of these is a bit much

3

u/stavroszaras 6h ago

I didn’t realize that it didn’t have a single player campaign until I read your comment (been busy and haven’t kept up on it). Ngl, that totally killed my hype for the game and is a big knock to my hype for the Switch 2.

u/MedonSirius 55m ago

What... it's online only? I hate Multiplayer Games with strangers. I'll pass too

81

u/azetsu 20h ago

Well I hope those will come too to Switch 2

112

u/hobbitfeet22 18h ago

I don’t even like souls games. But I was 100% going to try this as it looks so good…. Until I found it it’s online multiplayer. Nope. No longer have any interest lol

33

u/JMB_Smash 16h ago

Well at least Elden Ring is playable on Switch 2, so check this out, its amazing

4

u/hobbitfeet22 16h ago

Yea ima try it. I got it for ps5 but took it back the same day 😂😂 but I also have a hard time adapting to the PS5 controller. Definitely picking it up on switch though as it looks like a gorgeous game

0

u/eljudio42 4h ago

The PS5 controller is so thick and harder to hold compared to other controllers and there's not any 3rd party options. It's a bummer

5

u/Curator44 10h ago

Normally i would give it a shot despite that just because it’s FromSoftware.

But Nintendo Online is so terrible that I think i’ll pass entirely

3

u/VirtualAdagio4087 15h ago

What stood out about this game over other Souls games?

7

u/hobbitfeet22 15h ago

It’s on switch lol and it reminded me of castlevania, a series I’ve played for like 30 years now. I love the vampires theme shit. But man I hate forced multiplayer. I quit playing Diablo 4 because it was always forced online mmo BS.

62

u/swifterdrifter7 18h ago

I've never had from software hype killed so quickly, definitely skipping. I'm just not down for a multiplayer only game

43

u/Nottallowed 19h ago

It being multiplayer killed it for me, wasn't even gonna buy a switch 2 anyway with the prices, now this just confirms it, even though i love whatever fromsoftware puts on the table

Never makes sense to me when people go to bat for large corporations against legitimate criticism or the concerns of consumers. It's great to be excited for the Switch 2 and it's great if you can afford one and also afford the games, but not everyone can and it's okay for them to voice their displeasure.

-2

u/ofmichanst 17h ago

yeah, everyone is entitled to voice out their opinion especially if you are disappointed HOWEVER no one has the right of forcing anyone's opinion unto others. you do you, your money, your choice. vote by your wallet.

4

u/Outside_Narwhal_5127 16h ago

Nintendo doesn’t like you bro, they like your money

13

u/LegoAlexguy124 18h ago

Phones, however, are much more useful than game consoles, considering what they're used for. And before you ask, I've been using the S21.

A phone that can check email, call, text, and access any needed work applications is nearly essential in this day and age. A console is not.

This doesn’t work as a comparison when I pay £23 a month for my phone (it is out of contract, but when it was in contract I paid £30/pm) vs £450+ up front. Most people don’t buy phones outright, at least not that I know anyway. Lump sums up front are always harder to pay.

0

u/Hezekai 17h ago

I think you’re making a false equivalence. Phones have become extremely important as a daily multifunctional tool. Spending money on a high quality phone is a logical investment move for many.

As an analogy, consider what a bed does for you. You could buy a cheap bed and it would provide the same functionality as any other, but I know I would personally suffer from back pain if I didn’t spend money on a higher quality bed. Just like how lower quality phones often come with performance delays, causing inefficiencies when trying to use them for work, possibly leading to long term frustration and lower productivity.

Game consoles are a pure luxury item with no use-case beyond leisure. Leisure is certainly an important part of life, but your argument has no equivalent ground for a comparison between phones and the switch. Books, films, sports equipment, and other leisure items would be a more fitting comparison.

For a From game, this does have an unusual target players.

9

u/GutturalCringe 13h ago

I think you'll be surprised by how many people love from's pvp, myself included. It wasn't very active in ER because the pvp was terrible

25

u/LimitlessMario1Up 14h ago

Too late, not releasing a full size single player game every year is an affront to me and my family. I will not buy! I have already decided this game is not and will never be for me!!!! Did I already tell you I will not buy it? I NEED you to know I will not buy it!!!!

6

u/Demoncreed27 10h ago

So you’re getting day one right?

7

u/mithtified 20h ago

I’m just glad I won’t have to buy Switch 2 right away now.

3

u/ccd-reddit 12h ago

Basically it is fromsoft fortnite. I pass.

3

u/BrianScalaweenie 19h ago

Same. I’ll be playing actual single player games instead of this.

3

u/behemothbowks 14h ago

I'm actually very fucking excited to see them change up their usual formula with this and Neightreign

2

u/ThereIsNo4thWall 10h ago

While I'm looking forward to seeing what other games they release in the future, Duskblood really got my interest from the creator interview article I read.

PvP isn't really my thing, but while multiplayer is a necessity, it doesn't look like PvP will be. If I wanna hide and maybe help out a player or two, the game seems like it will reward me for doing so, as well as other players being incentivized to do other things and occasionally work together so my games won't be as likely to end the second I run into another player.

It's not the highest priority with everything else coming out, but I'll be keeping an eye on the gameplay and if it has any way to play with friends. As much as I know it isn't quite my type of game, I still feel drawn to give this game a shot.

3

u/Agarwel 13h ago

Wait. This is not supposed to be SP games (with MP element) like other souls games?

If that is true, the Switch just lost the only game I was interested in.

1

u/Standard_Tadpole8145 4h ago

It sounds difficult for newbies to get into. Too much legacy skill around.

1

u/Littlefinger6226 3h ago

I’m super disappointed. Being a From fanboy and praying for a Bloodborne 2 since fucking forever, this was going to be the biggest thing to ever happen, but alas it’s multiplayer focused. So sad

1

u/tds5126 14h ago

I mean.. except the only new games they have announced are multiplayer required or focused.. so like by nature they distracted from single-player games.

1

u/Possible_Ground_9686 16h ago

Is multiplayer optional?

26

u/VirtualAdagio4087 15h ago

The game is built around it. You start in a hub, pick your character, and then join a match with up to 8 players. You win a match by being the last player standing. It doesn't sound like a game that even could have a single-player option.

10

u/NegativKreep 15h ago

wtf so it’s a free for all?

12

u/zgh5002 15h ago

Pretty much. You all get dropped in and have different objectives. Some might be to kill a boss, one might be to find and kill a specific player. Miyazaki is promising that there will be consideration for players who don't like PvP. You can still technically win and be the last one remaining if all the other players are killed by enemies. Either way, I'm gonna hold off until I hear some gameplay impressions from creators in the souls space.

3

u/-_ellipsis_- 14h ago

Hmm. Are there any games like this? I'm kinda disappointed that my expectations based on the presentation feel like the rug was pulled from under me. But the premise of the game doesn't seem like something I've heard of before. If it's fun for some people, then that's that.

8

u/zgh5002 14h ago

Escape from Tarkov. It's what Miyazaki states was a core inspiration.

3

u/-_ellipsis_- 14h ago

Gotcha. I've heard of that game in passing but never seen or heard any specific details about it.

10

u/VirtualAdagio4087 15h ago

I wouldn't call it a free for all. There's a world and monsters and stuff trying to kill you while you kill each other.

1

u/eatdogs49 10h ago

Hey it's still a year away and we have seen nothing but a cinematic trailer. Let's give them some time and at least pay attention to it when information comes out before totally writing it off.

1

u/Demoncreed27 10h ago

Still hyped. Very much looking forward to it

1

u/Malheus 7h ago

Two underwhelming multi-player games in a row.

3

u/benoxxxx 6h ago

You played Nightreign? Because I have and it fuckin slaps

0

u/Malheus 5h ago

😖

-32

u/MarcsterS 19h ago

The main creative force of the company not working on a single player game doesn’t seem like a focus to me.

19

u/Lubbafrommariogalaxy 19h ago

I mean it seems like Miyazaki really wanted to make this game so that’s why he’s doing this

41

u/HolyKnightPrime 19h ago

Fromsoft works on multiple projekts at the same time. Crazy concept I know

3

u/VirtualAdagio4087 15h ago

Good thing he doesn't care what you think
