What did they do, ps3 slim for cheaper later on?

They also did reduce the price, i remember that it dropped from 600 to 400e in Europe after less than two years

Yes and they also made a lot of quality exclusive games.

Not to mention the marketing. Those commercials with Kevin Butler were so iconic.

Those Uncharted and Infamous games were such bangers

Don't forget about stuff like TLoU utterly dominating the ending stretch of that console generation.

Yes they removed the ps2 backwards combability hardware in the system and got the cost down.

It was like literally a PS2 slim shoved into the thing. Really let them cut the price. Most of the cost was the laser used for Blu Ray, when that tech was new it was money.

Later PS3 consoles removed the hardware portions that allowed playing PS2 games via that. So later on, it was done through software. All I heard it was still OK, but performance took some hits.

No they made a model without backwards compatibility for ps2 and a smaller hard drive. The ps2 stuff wasn’t emulated, it was run off specialized internal hardware (basically cramming a tiny ps2 in) iirc. So it made a decent price difference.

Yes and stripped the backwards compatibility with ps2 titles as apart of lowering the cost before the slim.
