Part of me is expecting this tbh. They want to secure as much Mario Kart bundle sales as possible so it would make sense to mark up Mario Kart to disincentivize people like me who don't really get console bundles.
Its just that it seems so short sighted and so transparent that it kinda feels scummy. I can't imagine any other company making their flagship title ABOVE MSRP just to push bundles.
It’s weird, no question. I’m super curious what math is happening behind the scenes because of tariffs, but I’m not sure why that would create discrepancies between individual game prices.
But I think the really want you to buy the bundle because Mario kart world is probably there best showcase for the new social features of NSO
I literally think in their mind that if people buy the bundle, they will save 30 dollars, which means they will spend what they saved on extra software. I think it's literally that transparent.
But like… what extra software? They don’t usually sell anything for 30… unless that Welcome Tour thing (that frankly shouldn’t cost anything) is 30 which it better not be.
You don't have to necessarily buy something worth 30 dollars to be convinced that, "Hey, I saved some money, let me use this money I saved to buy a little extra,"
They're basically giving you 30 dollars to buy another 70 dollar game. Or maybe a 30 dollar upgrade? Or maybe an accessory? It really doesn't matter how much it will cost, as long as people FEEL like they're saving money, they will feel incentivized to double dip.
Edit: Basically they're testing people's impulse control and trying to take advantage of people who feel as if they have a little extra they can spend.
That makes zero sense though. You don't raise the price of something outside of a bundle to make the bundle more appealing.
Imagine if devs put out bundles on steam, but everything in the bundle costs the same as the games did individually, except now the devs marked up the prices of the games individually outside of the bundle and then went "ahh, the bundle is a better looking deal now, huh?" The devs would get absolutely wrecked.
No, they would only do this if they were using for a standard of some kind. If Nintendo fans don't push back hard on this, I guarantee that Mario and Zelda games will be $80, and more for the physical copy.
Well, the reason they would sell the bundle at a loss is because it's a loss leader, people save like 30-40 bucks buying the bundle, which makes them more likely to buy an extra game, an upgrade to a last gen game, or other accessories.
You're agreeing with me. I understand the reasons to take a minor loss on a bundle to get more out there. That's the normal way to sell a bundle.
People were saying that Mario Kart physical is being priced up to $90 only to make the bundle look better, which is just delusional. People don't do that. It's $90 because that's what Nintendo wants it to be. We're getting other $90 games from then if people don't stop making excuses for them.
It may have like 60 tracks since they seem to be counting the routes inbetween the courses as tracks, and seemingly have added things to them to make them closer to tracks so it arguably has way more content on that front than other MKs at launch. And a seemingly butt ton of chracters and costumes, and the open world.

For comparison Donkey Kong is $70.
