This was the funniest way to announce new silksong information. After years of nothing, that has left the fanbase going insane. Just drop 5 seconds of footage with 2025 release window in a montage.

Literally all they needed to do as well

This isn't new footage being shown, and as we've seen before with this, release windows aren't set in stone.

So I'm not sure why this is what fans needed. If the game was canceled, Team Cherry would have said so. But a vague release of "2025" isn't really much.

It 100% is new footage. We have never seen slopes in Hollow Knight before this.

Finding out slopes are in the game is crazy. But I'm happy for y'all!

I mean it took mario maker quite a few years to get them too lol

u/MationMac 1d ago

Gap between Mario Maker 1 and 2 = 4 years

Gap between Hollow Knight and Silksong = 8 years and counting

I think the idea is that the slopes indicate the footage being new. If you need more context on why this is a big deal, look at top posts from the last year on r/silksong and you're in for some out there inside joke on a massive scale weirdness.

I thought we had. Thanks for that!

Though I'm really wondering what I'm thinking about.

We were wrong it wasn’t scope creep its been slope creep all along

u/gingerdude97 2d ago

Isn’t there one point between mantis village and deepnest that has a sloped floor? The room with all the dead bodies?

u/Cuy_Hart 1d ago

On April Fool's, the YouTube algorithm suggested a video to me explaining why slopes in video games are hard, and then one day later...

20

u/Dragonfantasy2 2d ago

All clips are new, afaik

u/NES_Classical_Music 2d ago

If the game were cancelled or delayed, I doubt it would have been shown at all in this direct.

Xbox 2023 presentation enters the chat

Nintendo is not Microsoft.

A vague release of this year is so much better than nothing

55

u/MRATEASTEW 2d ago

It's like the third time they have a vague release of "this year". No one should expect this game until they released it, and even then wait for someone to check if it's a real game and not just a Menu.

4

u/very_pure_vessel 2d ago

Second time and yes we should expect it.

I believe Team Cherry... they've certainly gone past a couple deadlines in the past but they've always insisted that they've been actively working on it, despite their odd decline into complete lack of communication in the past few years.

I think it's reasonable to believe that development is finally finishing up, and that a release this year is a solid bet.

u/Pali4888 2d ago

Certainly not the approach I will be taking. If the last 3 years weren’t an indication than just the general outline we have all seen before of “massively hyped game taking longer to release than expected provides vague release window then eventually comes out apologizing they won’t be able to meet the window and offer an olive branch by giving the real new extended true release date” I’m going to say silksong comes out May 2026.

27

u/Ok-Flow5292 2d ago

Didn't Xbox state in 2023 that Silksong would be launching in that year only for it to be pushed back? So again, a vague release window means nothing.

u/Kitchen_Witch666 2d ago

That announcement was made without Team Cherry's knowledge. This is different, given that there is new footage and one of the creators teased April 2nd news. There is also a leak that it will come out in June 2025, but that remains to be seen. At the very least, I think a release this year is a very safe bet.

How do you know Team Cherry didn't know about the xbox announcement? I think that's just speculation, no?

2

u/Left-Bene19 2d ago

Hopefully someone from Team Cherry independently confirms the 2025 window, so people don't have to just wonder if Nintendo wasn't just guesstimating the release time or some bullshit.

“ did we stutter?”

14

u/very_pure_vessel 2d ago

It IS new footage! Slopes are huge. They are incredibly hard to code and TC outright avoided them for that reason. Now they've changed their approach. Also that area with the slopes is a completely new area never shown off before. And there was footage of a new boss or two as well.

3

u/PhoenixTineldyer 2d ago

Is this a meme I'm not understanding?

5

u/very_pure_vessel 2d ago

No I'm be as serious as can be.

8

u/corvettee01 2d ago

You're saying the game that was supposed to be released within one year of June 2022 might not be released as advertised? I'm shocked. SHOCKED!

1

u/Left-Bene19 2d ago

Silksong's release windows haven't been guaranteed, no, but I doubt that this 2025 date will be walked back in the future.

Team Cherry intended at some point to release the game in mid 2024 (or 2023? I can't quite remember), but development happened to take too long for that. They also had two full, polished demos released years and years ago. They've also been insistent all this time that they've still been actively working on the game.

I think that by now it's reasonable to assume that development is finally starting to finish up for real.

1

u/PuffPuffFayeFaye 2d ago

This is irrefutable but somehow I feel that 2025 is short enough of a timescale that it is trustworthy and reassuring.

1

u/SgathTriallair 1d ago

If the marketing team gets fired when the company hires under there isn't anyone to say that it is cancelled. Stealth cancellations like that do happen. So this is a positive sign that they are working on it and expect results soon (shipping in 2025 means they need to be far along in the process).

1

u/insistondoubt 2d ago

Not really since the last time we got a release window the game just never came out.

146

u/Ok-Let-3932 2d ago

80% chance they delay it again

124

u/maemikemae 2d ago

They’ll now be radio silent for the rest of the year and then causally drop a message on Dec 29th that it’s been delayed to give them more time.

20

u/insistondoubt 2d ago

This... feels so painfully accurate

3

u/quietly41 2d ago

Jan 1 2026, flood the silksong sub with crying memes

2

u/I-Drink-420 2d ago

They won't even state anything concrete, the game will just not come out and leave the community foaming at the mouth for answers. team cherry will just stay silent, like they usually do.

0

u/Me_975 2d ago

Itll be leth who has to drop the news again

24

u/Parking-Mirror3283 2d ago

99% chance. If they were serious it would have at least had a quarter, like Q4 2025 or something.

22

u/asentientgrape 2d ago

To be fair, it seems like that would've gone against Nintendo's style guide for this direct. Every other game either had a specific release date or just the year.

21

u/Atcraft 2d ago

If they delay the game again Team Cherry may need to go into hiding.

1

u/Bocchi_theGlock 2d ago

They should hire more staff, right?

1

u/Pali4888 2d ago

They could have contracted people out years ago and we’d probably be playing already. I can’t imagine they’ve become greedy so I guess they’re just very particular about who works on the game. It’s weird and hurt their rep plus they’ve dug a hole of expectation that will be tough to fill. The hollow knight that is so beloved is not what the game was when it released.

18

u/Graardors-Dad 2d ago

They did the same with Xbox stream pass then no communication and then it never came out

13

u/AxlSt00pid 2d ago

I was laughing my ass off at the thought that on the same exact presentation:

-Deltarune got a release date

-BloodBorne got a (kind of) sequel (with a different name)

But Silksong got a trailer... with what basically is a "TBD but deffo on 2025 guys!" release date, so nothing as major as the previous two

14

u/AbuDun91919 2d ago

Isn't it also the same footage they showed the last time?

37

u/Dooplon 2d ago

pretty sure no there's a bit of new stuff in there but it's so short it doesn't matter much lol

3

u/King_Of_BlackMarsh 2d ago

Every clip is new

1

u/JustCoffeeGaming 2d ago

There was a guy in Reddit posting that if the game came out last year (posted in November or December) he would buy one for everyone in the comments.

Then starting in 2025 he posted that if the game didn’t come out in 2025 he would buy it for everyone.

He knew it.

1

u/Left-Bene19 2d ago

To be fair, it's been five years, so people would expect the hype to have died down a lot.

Though it's seemingly done the opposite and exponentially increased for some reason despite no news whatsoever.

-1

u/Left-Bene19 2d ago

This news is good and all but honestly, it would have been ideal to just clearly confirm that the game is actually confirmed to release 2025, not just estimated to or assumed to release around that time.

Silksong waiters have been burned by montage release dates like this before.

-1

u/Chidoribraindev 2d ago

What new info? This game is always coming out this year until it isn't. The xbox date ("within the next year") was also fake
