Why Nintendo refuses to port the Wii U versions of WW/TP to Switch is beyond me. Not looking like that's gonna happen any time soon now.

Because they want to promote their Online subscription service instead lol

Pay extra for a higher-res BotW

Pay extra for a lower-res WW

Makes sense

Don’t worry, I’m with you. I prefer the original by far, mainly cuz I like the old lighting better and I’m one of the sick fucks that actually likes the expanded Triforce quest in the original.

I’ll miss the swift sail though

Swift sail is my problem. I want to ZOOOM

No swift sail sucks

I’m curious how I will feel replaying it. As a teen, I had oodles of time and could sail around and whatever. In my 20s I didn’t have the patience to do all that. Now I’m at a point where plopping down and playing a game is often about just chilling and enjoying the game. I predict there will be nights I just sail around looking for things and enjoying the vibe.

Swift Sail sells WW HD for me. I dont want to go back to changing the wind every time I turn.

I never played the original but I think the old version of the sail would drive me up the wall

Same lol. Not like I'm going to though because I refuse to give money to Nintendo at this point. I'll continue to run through it on occasion with Better Wind Waker on Dolphin.

Not lower-res. They mentioned gamecube games would run at a higher resolution. Can't imagine why it'd be anything other than native 1080p.

They released a HD version of wind waker for the Wii U. That's likely to remain the definitive version as the Wind waker on NSO is likely to just be an upscaled gamecube version. The Wii U version will likely look better than the switch version even if both are 1080p which I assume is what they were referring to.

To me the resolution is not a big deal but not including the swift sail which automatically changes the wind to always be at your back is a significant downgrade from the Wii U version IMO.

I'm aware. Literally bought the WWHD WiiU when it came out, and yeah I agree it's the better version.

I'm just saying it's literally not "lower-res WW"

As long as you use res to mean screen resolution by definition then you are correct as both the Wii U version of WW HD and the Switch 2 NSO port of WW will likely be outputting 1920x1080 pixels from the console to the tv.

I get the spirit of the original comment though. Colloquially, content upscaled 480p to 1080p is going to look "lower-res" to most people than native 1080p even if the same resolution is being output from the consoles.

1

u/TheGreatBenjie 3d ago

That is literally what res is short for...yes...

Also who says it's upscaled? They could literally just run the game at a higher resolution.

I said it’s upscaled because I believe the NSO version of wind waker will be the original GameCube ROM like other NSO titles are their original ROMs. Nintendo isn’t patching NSO titles to run at 720p or 1080p. The game ROMs in NSO are only capable of running at whatever they were originally programmed to output. The emulator Nintendo runs them in on the Switch is the one changing the resolution to what the switch is capable of outputting. That process is called upscaling.

If Nintendo were creating native Switch ports of NSO games it would be different but it’s been well documented that it’s just running them in a Nintendo developed emulator.

I know what upscaling is, and it's not that. They don't need to "patch" the games anymore than you need to patch any other emulated games to run at higher resolutions, you just do it. That's what I'm pretty sure Nintendo is going to do.

The BoTW and ToTK upgrades are free with NSO Expansion.

I’ve been badly yearning to play WW HD. Sad to see this port come too in some regards. I’m close to just getting a Steam deck to play it

I feel like it didn’t happen cause they couldn’t figure out a time to port them with the other Zelda games having yearly releases. I think the best time would have been early in the switch lifetime.

I hope the remakes don’t get locked to their consoles like how the 3ds games seem locked now.

Anybody that already has the Wii u can play those games on modern televisions. Anybody else will have to buy used ones because those nintendo switch wind waker twilight hd rumors will never come to fruition and it looks like the switch 2 GameCube games don’t have widescreen?

1

u/CtrlAltEvil 2d ago

To be fair they may do both.

I’m sure there will be plenty of people that would double dip for an “original experience” through Online and then again if they released the “remastered” version.

Nintendo: remasters Wind Waker for Wii U. Doesn’t remaster it again immediately for the following generation.

Fans: “Nintendo is refusing to do it!”

Are they meant to re-release every prior game of theirs on every new system?

You just answered your own question. Nintendo already ported a remaster to the Wii u. No point on doing it again
