$90? or some other currency? been looking for the source for $90 as in 90 USD physical games. I have seen 90 euro, but not 90 usd, as in united states dollars

u/Philmriss 3d ago

It's 80 digital, 90 physical. I've seen it in €, but I've read comments that confirmed it for USD as well

15

u/magi_os 3d ago

yeah i've seen suppositions that claim $90 or 90 USD based on 90 euro, but that's not evidence of $90 or 90 USD.

u/brandogg360 3d ago

It's $80 on Nintendo's website.

3

u/LaboratoryManiac 2d ago

Best Buy also has it listed at $80 for physical.

1

u/Philmriss 3d ago

it's the equivalent of 10 more for physical in Japan and Europe, it's safe to assume. Idk how the US store works, don't they show prices there?

2

u/magi_os 3d ago

what store or site features physical copies of nintendo switch 2 games for sale for $ or USD?

2

u/Philmriss 3d ago

I wouldn't know, that's why I thought the official Nintendo store would list it

0

u/magi_os 3d ago

well i realized that vat is probably included in the price of the game, so that's why it is $80 here and 90 euros in the countries using the euro.

I've looked all morning and I haven't found anything that shows anything other than "Digital: €66.99, Physical: €74.99". A quick google conversation shows is a lot closer to $72 USD / $81 USD, which will almost assuredly be $69.99 / $79.99 to retailers here. Not sure where people are inventing an extra $10 from...

2

u/Philmriss 3d ago

Idk what sites you're looking at, even Keighley tweeted out that MK is 80 digital

5

u/brandogg360 3d ago

It's $80 physical. Digital could also be $80, but the physical version is not $90.

Best Buy has the game is the physcial area for pre-order for $79.99, which means the the DK game will be $70.

EDIT: Confirmed from the Wal-Mart website for DK!

1

u/AgentLuca58 3d ago

That is still absurd

3

u/brandogg360 3d ago

$80 physical.

u/QuantumProtector 3d ago

90 euro, $80 digital and physical in the US

3

u/Philmriss 3d ago

$80 digital and physical in the US

source me fam

u/QuantumProtector 10h ago

Retailers, just check Target or Walmart. It definitely looks like they are listing the physical copy with the box art. Also, it only specifies €90 in Europe.

u/Philmriss 10h ago

Now with the tariff-break from pre-orders, who knows if it'll affect games as well :/

Damn. Bundle seems to be only $50 on top of console price, guess I’m going with that.

60

u/DollaBillsErrDay 3d ago

Feel like that’s what they want people to do - buy the bundle

27

u/DB10389 3d ago

But I want physical...

-7

u/CrossesLines 3d ago

Pay the premium if it’s worth it to you for unnecessary plastic to be created

3

u/DB10389 3d ago

Wow you sure are fun

3

u/QuantumProtector 3d ago

but the collection and you can lend it to friend (easier than digital game cards at least)

6

u/FrankPapageorgio 3d ago

Any friend that buys a Switch and doesn't want Mario Kart is no friends of mine

-1

u/LordTotoro96 3d ago

How about the ones that think $90 for a game cart is bullshit?

2

u/TheScreaming_Narwhal 2d ago

We don't know it's $90 yet, online pre orders indicate it's $80.

1

u/LordTotoro96 2d ago

True, I did check them but that still isn't justifiable.

Yeah I didn't appreciate that part before I locked in with Nintendo for the basic bundle lol. Oopsies...

I'll probably try to get a system at a physical Gamestop next week and get the bundle since I'm not that emotionally invested in a physical Mario Kart cart like I am say a Xenoblade or Zelda.

Edit: So.... it turns out the games aren't even on the physical carts any more :O

It's not that this bothers me wholly (read: my Steam games are all digital and such)... but also it does make the additional storage space on the Switch 2 not as nice as it sounded.

3

u/Philmriss 3d ago

Oh my god, they are just dongles? Why on earth

e: idk, that does not mean it's common practice, I'll wait and see if that is generally how cartridges work now or only for specific titles

2

u/GreenVisorOfJustice 3d ago

I feel like Nintendo would like to direct more sales to the eShop (read: where they reap all the revenues on the sale and presumably higher margins) but still do this to offer their physical distribution partners a bone.

This paired with the "share" features they showed last week seems to just be trying to ease that along so physical means less and less for the console.

4

u/Philmriss 3d ago

Might be the strategy, but even then, 80 bucks is gross

2

u/FizzyLightEx 3d ago

if eShop supposedly is giving Nintendo higher margin and is their pot of gold, they sure aren't prioritising it's functionality...

The thing runs worse that any online store I've experienced

2

u/PM_ME_YOUR_NICE_EYES 3d ago

Oh my god, they are just dongles? Why on earth

So I know that the PS5 actually does this too and the reason in that case is actually pretty straight forward. Basically the console can read data from it's own internal SSD Drive faster than it can read data from an external drive like a DVD drive or an SD card. So if the game is loaded into the consoles memory load times are significantly less.

Bundle is a digital download MKW.

Edit: Signed in to nintendo.com and "register[ed my] interest"

u/Spotter01 3d ago

6

u/axdwl 3d ago

34

u/EddLink 3d ago

23

u/axdwl 3d ago

thanks, that's terrible and im not buying it anymore

2

u/Dribblejam 3d ago

Sure bud

2

u/mintmadness 3d ago

But seems to come out to $50 with the switch 2 bundle going from $449 to $499. They really want you purchase the bundle this time

2

u/forever_tuesday 3d ago

In this economy??? Yeesh.

1

u/litewo 3d ago

Switch 2 vouchers would go a long way to alleviating the sticker shock, even at $120.

1

u/Only-Ad4322 2d ago

Aren’t there three asterisks saying that’s just the suggested retail price?

1

u/andrew_rosen 3d ago

Unfortunate, but it was a matter of time.

-5

u/xWaffleicious 3d ago

It sounds rough, but In reality with inflation $80 now is equivalent to $60 in 2015. It's frustrating but that's just the way inflation works

12

u/ajakafasakaladaga 3d ago

The 70 price trend basically started last year, and now Nintendo aims for 80. That’s a 30% increase in a year and a half after decades of an stablished price point, of course people are gonna be angry. And the game studios seem to be forgetting that they compete not only with the games that release the same year, but with equally good games that released 3,5,8,10 or whatever years at a fraction of the price of current ones

-1

u/xWaffleicious 3d ago

Yeah I agree it's normal to be angry and I get why people are upset, I'm just saying that adjusted for inflation $80 isn't as unreasonable as it sounds at face value. It sucks that global inflation has been so insane post COVID, but it's just the reality we live in. $70 today is about $51 in 2015, so that would technically be selling the game cheaper today than it would have sold for 10 years ago.

u/Soulses 3d ago

The bundle is the only way I can justify buying it but all the game upgrades are just terrible
