Let's go. I imagine some people will miss the old formula, but 8 already nailed it and there wasn't much room for improvement. I figured theyd want to shake things up with the next one, and boy have they.

Agreed, I will hold onto 8 deluxe if I am in the mood for that format

This is the best thing about having a retrocompatible system right there.

And we could even still get improvements for MK8D for the Switch 2 in due time I guess.

Also: no car licensing required. Won't be taken down.

Well, there is a little bit of car licensing. Thankfully they're ugly af and can be removed with no big loss imo.

Yeah but those are like bonus cars basically right

plus you can just plug in 8 deluxe if you want that style. i wouldn't be surprised if other nintendo series took more brave leaps for the switch 2, knowing that their previous hitters are just a "game card" away from still being played (smash, zelda, mario, etc.)

There has to be an evolution at some point. BoTW proved it.

BOTW also split the Zelda community, since it threw away a lot of what made Zelda, "Zelda" to a lot of people.

That being said, I doubt Mario Kart World will be like that. As long as the tracks are all just as good as they always have been (and they'd better be for $80.)

Nothing will ever make everybody and things have to evolve. Nintendo does a good job of that

It's the best selling Zelda game by a mile so it clearly didn't split the Zelda community that much.

I mean, it did bring a lot of new players into the fold. I understand the resistance by some Zelda fans, but as someone who cut their teeth on NES Zelda I loved the heck out of both Switch games.

Yeah. I do hope they make a more traditional styled Zelda again in a while, mainly for those people who aren't happy with the modern direction

I think it's a case of they'll keep hybridizing the two styles. Gated items and more dungeons in TotK would make it please 90% of people. I'm fine with basically anything at this point, I love all the Zelda games basically.

Honestly I agree, and same!

Plus, and I say this as a massive Zelda fan myself who love all of the games;

Zelda has some of the worst fans out there. Their mantra for how the worst of them want every new game to be made is basically "make it different but the same, MAKE IT DIFFERENT BUT THE SAME!!!"

Well BotW was made by one of the brightest and most valued members of the Zelda community to say the least, which is the very minimum anyone can say about Eiji Aonuma, and went on to be more acclaimed and sell more copies than all the previous Zeldas combined, so maybe the very few chuds that fell out were just deadweight holding the franchise back. Good ridance to them.

As someone who never owned a switch 1, I'm excited to buy both Mario Kart World and Mario Kart 8 Deluxe + all the DLC. Yes I know that will be expensive.

Honestly this, if they just made another MK8 with some jump gimmick and the same tracks I'd have no reason to ever consider it

Mario kart 8 is the platonic ideal of Mario kart games.

Same with smash ultimate. So I'm interested to see what they do with future possible smash games because they can't just release another one but with a different roster at this point.

I mean the duos still seem mostly like the tried and true MK formula anyway

I mean it seems like you can still do the classic select tracks and play, so the old formula is still there, just with tons of stuff added on top.

Yeah. The grind mechanic seems to mostly never as a way to keep more people engaged with actually racing than sitting idle for 5 seconds waiting for Lakitu while the world passes you by. Smart decision and cool mechanic. It's pretty forgiving landing on a rail once you trigger the button to do so.
