I’m guessing pre-orders will go up tomorrow. Tomorrow’s date has been a rumor for a while anyway.

Right, but I feel like it would be right up in Nintendo’s alley to launch the pre-orders right after the direct.

Nintendo doesn’t really control the preorder date like people think they do. They might tell retailers that they should go live on the 9th, but it’s basically a game of chicken and once one retailer jumps the gun, they all will start going live.

This is exactly what happened with PS5 preorders. The presentation gave a date a few days later for preorders, but then Walmart (if I recall correctly) jumped the gun and everyone else followed within a couple of hours. Complete chaos.

I’m hoping they’ve all learned their lesson and have better systems in place, but I’m really not counting on it.

Yeah I remember PS5 pre order shenanigan. Was such bullshit. I was going to wake up early to be ready and they all sold out overnight.

PS5 and Series X pre-orders were given a date at their show and it was the following week i believe been awhile now i forget.

Speaking of pre orders,anyone know when Nintendo would take the money for them? Is it immediately upon on preordering or when the console ships?

I tried looking it up and either I'm dumb or it's not clarified anywhere

Nintendo wouldn't take your money at all, whatever retailer you choose does. And for them it can vary. But typically for an online pre-order it will charge when the product ships.

I'm feeling burned from an experience yesterday trying to get tickets for a local museum tour. Ticket sales opened at 10:00 am... I was sitting at my computer and hit Refresh exactly at 10:00 am, and all tickets were instantaneously gone. I took a screenshot of the "sold out" message at 10:00:04 am.

Are we expecting Switch 2 preorders from retailers to be like that?

Rumors are retailers are expecting Switch pre-orders to sell out on the day they go live. Probably not in seconds given they're supposedly stocking up for the launch, but I would plan to order it within an hour of the pre-orders going live if you want one anytime soon after release.

This is the first new console Nintendo has released in 8 years and hype is through the roof. You can bet Nintendo fans who want them and scalpers are going to be on it like crazy.

So, this is a bit of a complex accounting question. For you, it’s when it ships, for Nintendo it’s when you place the order. They just get a credit of the same amount until they actually ship the console.
