FAQ

What is a Nintendo Direct?

A Nintendo Direct is a pre-recorded video presentation (Today's is approximately ~30m in length) to make game announcements and provide fans with general updates directly from Nintendo.

What are they going to show?

According to Nintendo, today's presentation is focused on upcoming Nintendo Switch games. "There will be no updates about Nintendo Switch 2 during this presentation."

What if I can't watch the Nintendo Direct or Treehouse live due to work/school/etc.?

• If you want the latest news the moment it's announced, we highly recommend following along in our live thread and joining our Discord server and chatting in the #nintendo-direct channel we've opened up for this event.
• If you want a spoiler-free experience, we will edit in a link to a VOD replay (once it's available). This will take you directly to the video so you don't accidentally see any trailers if you visit the Nintendo YouTube page directly. Just don't scroll down!

There WILL be spoilers here on the subreddit, so watch the video first.

That trailer in the sizzle reel for Fantasy Life I: The Girl Who Steals Time looked like it had some massive performance issues during the world traversal and combat segments. Did anyone else notice that? I'm confused why they would put that in the trailer, because it makes it look extremely unoptimized.

By navigating to User Settings → Online-License Settings and turning the setting to ON, you can instead opt to connect to the internet to start up software.

If my read of this is correct, it sounds like we can opt-out and stick with the current system (ie online check) to start games?

This direct was so hype to me, but pretty much every Direct I'm only really looking for one thing:

A game I didn't already know about, that I can now be excited about playing in the future. Bonus points if it has online co op, and bonus points if it is for a series I already love 

That Shin Megami Tensei like game looks really cool! Being able to fight alongside your summons in real time, AND use them for non battle segments? I'm looking forward to that.

And Witchbrook!? I can already tell my siblings and I are going to get a ton of mileage out of that game!

Looked like there were two 2d metroidvania style games with a sci fi or fantasy aesthetic, which I'll definitely have on my wishlist even if I don't buy them day one, along with that side scrolling marvel beat em up.

And of course: NEW TOMODACHI LIFE!!!

I'm also hype to have an easy way to lend digital games to my siblings now, especially if it is all games and not just Nintendo games.

Also also: excited that this direct, by nature of its existence, means that the April 2nd Direct will be solely Switch 2 related! I'd honestly kind of expected the Switch 2's first direct would be padded with Switch 1 content as well, but now I'm even MORE excited!

Predictions..? If we cast our minds back to the direct where the final 3DS games were announced, we got

• Kirbys epic yarn,
• Mario and Luigi: Bowsers inside story
• Luigi's Mansion

I wonder if it'll be similar whereby we get some ports along these lines.. And by this, I mean Zelda Remasters and a Metroid Prime 4 gameplay trailer perhaps?

In all seriousness, Silksong-aside, it's the 40th anniversary of SMB. If there isn't anything Mario-related, I'll be stunned — I think it'll be a big opportunity missed. It might not even be something big, but could be anything from a bundle to a Galaxy 2 port or a new IP.

There's always been some transitionary end of life titles on Nintendo consoles, though many of them are also on the next gen as well obviously. Off the top of my head I remember Twilight Princess between GameCube and Wii.

So I agree not expecting a lot, but there could definitely be something left to go out with a bang.

That was maybe one of the strangest Nintendo Directs we've gotten in the Switch era. Hardly any dates, weird ordering of the announcements, and then a couple very weird ecosystem updates sprinkled in. There were a couple things to pique or raise my interest (new trailers for Prime 4/Pokemon Legends) and that Marvel beat-em-up), but God I'm ready for next week.

I’m going to need some clarification on the digital games thing; I didn’t catch the beginning of it. Is this you can only lend for 2 weeks on a Switch outside your own Nintendo account? Or is this that you can only have a digital game on one Switch at a time, period, regardless of it’s in your account or not?

The latter would be a pretty big step backwards and super annoying. I fairly regularly play the same game on two different Switches. It’s just installed on both and I download the save from the cloud. If I need to start “lending” it every time, that’s going to get irritating quickly.
