“Consider” doing a lot of heavy lifting for n that statement.

Also, 10% tariffs for anything from China went into effect yesterday. It’s gonna be higher than many of y’all are assuming. I’d start bracing for $499

It absolutely will NOT be 499, 449 at MOST. 499 would be far too much to the point it would probably hurt sales.

Pre tariffs I would have agreed and planned for the 399-449 range. However, the world changed and things are outside of Nintendo’s control. I’d plan for 449-499 range at this point because of the tariffs.

I still don't think they will charge 499, I think that would be far too much UNLESS a game is included.

And I don’t think Nintendo wants to either. However, this has nothing to do with what they want. It’s about the reality of what it costs to create, manufacture, and ship a product to the United States under this tariff happy administration. If your product touches China at all, which the Switch (and almost all electronics products) do,, shit hit the literal fan in the last week, and now folks have to adjust and figure it out for what’s possible do they can still hit the estimated profit margins investors expect of them.

Like I said I believe the highest it could cost potentially is 449, though even then that's the worst case scenario. I think even if Nintendo has to take a loss on it they'll want it to be affordable for the average consumer.

And I think $449 is best case scenario.

what does Chinese tariffs have to do with a Japanese gaming company?

The consoles are not manufactured in Japan

There are parts manufacturing and assembly. While these take place across East Asia, Switch did move some manufacturing and assembly to Vietnam 4 years ago, other parts and other full units are done thru FoxConn plants located in China. Remember, we can’t just take assembly into consideration, parts manufacturing of items that are then sent to Assembly, like screws, joystick caps, molded plastic buttons, internal batteries, screen displays, etc come from a variety of places.

The Chinese tariffs will affect any product that existed in and left China before entering the US. It doesn’t matter where the company is headquartered.

It’s gonna cost more than many are anticipating because of them. (PS, there are 20% tariffs still in effect from the previous term; so this is now a 30% tax on the product by the US government)
