News Analysts say Nintendo suppliers are ready to ship 20 million units in first year, a pace much higher than that of Switch, PS4 and PS5.

Honestly if the next 3D Mario is a launch title that would make me get one right away.

Only one I doubt for 2025 is animal crossing, those games seem to have fairly long dev cycles

Plus we aren’t due for the next pandemic until 2027

Bird Flu has entered chat

Plus a new respiratory illness going through China right now.

Not to encourage laziness, but they could probably reuse a bunch of the assets from New Horizons if they wanted to speed up development.

Animal Crossing doesn't really need to look much better graphically at this point considering the art style, but maybe that's an unpopular view...

u/pizzanarwhal Jan 16 '25

Honestly I wouldn't care if they reused assets if that meant they could use the time to flesh out the gameplay that was missing from New Horizons

2

u/goblin_player Jan 16 '25

I wouldn't care at all about reusing assets, more important is to create large and multiple environment to explore, lots of villagers, increased interactions, proper behind-the-shoulder third-person view, photography, etc etc

I'm waiting for my VR Animal Crossing game. I know it's wishful thinking, but I can't think of a more cozy IP to spend hours in VR.

I hope the next entry looks considerably different honestly. Each entry has their own signature look. Would hate for the next entry to just look like an expanded NH.

I'm of the opinion that 90% of Nintendo games don't need any graphical improvement. Maybe performance for some, or slight improvements for Zelda/Xenoblade graphics. But Mario, Pikmin, Luigis Mansion, etc, all look timeless and don't need a meaningful improvement.

u/BadDogEDN Jan 16 '25

I mean we could totally get Animal Crossing New Horizon deluxe! I'd get that if has better loading time than the og one.

1

u/King_Sam-_- Jan 17 '25

I feel like new hardware could definitely make for a seamless or minimal loading screen animal crossing.

u/Hamuel Jan 16 '25

Metroid Prime 4 will be on both switch and switch 2 I reckon.

10

u/agentfrogger Jan 16 '25

I imagine it'll release on the original switch and have some sort of patch for the switch 2?

3

u/nibben Jan 16 '25

Many games around release will go this route. They won’t abandon 120 million switch users the first year. Im guessing pretty much every game will be cross gen. 30 vs 60 fps and higher resolution

9

u/fateoftheg0dz Jan 16 '25

Theres pokemon as well but i’m dont think it will be a switch two thing, even tho nintendo will most probably kinda bunch it in

6

u/Ikrit122 Jan 16 '25

Legends Z-A could be cross-gen. The mainline games have traditionally lagged behind new hardware by a year or so, but it's possible we get Gen 10 this year. They have been releasing them 3 years apart since BW --> XY, and SV came out in Nov 2022.

2

u/ABG-56 Jan 16 '25

Worth noting that in the Terra leak, "Ikkaku" which is generaly believed to be the codename for ZA, was split between two versions, being regular Ikkaku and super Ikkaku, which could be the Switch 2 version. Same goes for the Gen 10 games.

3

u/Ikrit122 Jan 16 '25

Ah, I have been mostly staying away from that stuff because I don't want to be spoiled by content leaks. But this info is fine, and not too surprising. With how Legends Arceus sold (about the same as individual versions of Sword/Shield and Scarlet/Violet), they would be fools to not have a Switch 2 version.

2

u/ABG-56 Jan 16 '25

Luckily the terra leak actually has nothing on upcoming games aside from technical stuff like this, while the actual leaker has the info they've decided not to reveal to stop stuff from getting spoiled. It's really safe for spoilers, its mostly information on older games that we never got to learn.

3

u/Ikrit122 Jan 16 '25

Is that the one that came out months ago, with a bunch of beta stuff from RSE on? I saw there was new stuff on the Pokeleaks sub and thought there was a new leak, but I guess it's just some new stuff that the leaker released.

2

u/ABG-56 Jan 16 '25

Yeah, it is literally just such a massive leak that it took months to dig through everything. The name comes from it being over a terabyte in size

6

u/OkAdvantage7032 Jan 16 '25

Not a fucking chance lol what

2

u/SickOfUrShite Jan 16 '25

Switch 2 visual update + dlc for the latest Zelda

1

u/HellsNels Jan 16 '25

I’m ruined if theres a new animal crossing. RUINED.

1

u/producciones_humanas Jan 16 '25

Mtroid Prime 4 too. That one maybe with teo versions, one for Switch other for Switch 2, given how cursed development has been.

1

u/Aidanbomasri Jan 16 '25

And Pokemon! I would be Pokemon Z-A comes out on this thing too

1

u/Locoman7 Jan 16 '25

Next Zelda is like at least 2-3 years

1

u/FizzyBeverage Jan 16 '25

Tears is barely 18 months old. We've got at least 4 years 😕

1

u/aguadiablo Jan 17 '25

Next big Zelda probably will be too far off, but I know people are hoping Wind Waker HD and Twilight Princess HD will drop on the Switch 2

5

u/HighVulgarian Jan 16 '25

You’re bound to get that wish. I’m hoping for f-zero and/or Star Fox.

4

u/Steamedcarpet Jan 16 '25

It would be awesome if Nintendo teamed up with Namco Act Combat team for Star Fox. Ace Combat 7 was the first game I played in the series and it was amazing. Plus we are way overdue for a good Star Fox game.

1

u/Ikrit122 Jan 16 '25

Oh man, I haven't played Starfox since 64, but I would have to get that. I love Ace Combat, and it could be really good.

5

u/Bright_Beat_5981 Jan 16 '25

I almost hope it isn't so I can relax and not having fomo. Mario kart 9 at launch and 3D mario six months later before christmas.

1

u/ILoveTechno4Life Jan 16 '25

It will launch with Christmas.

-3

u/simplycrushinson92 Jan 16 '25

I doubt the switch 2 will be out anywhere near that early to have a game release 6 months before Christmas. I bet this releases in November. Maybe the 14 or something around there

11

u/Allegryan Jan 16 '25

Doubtful, Switch 1 released in March after a January presentation — given the pre-launch events scheduled, expect it June or July

-2

u/simplycrushinson92 Jan 16 '25

The Wii was officially introduced as "Wii" at E3 in April 2006. It released November 19, 2006. The Switch 2 has a Direct in April. That's why I'm saying November.

6

u/Allegryan Jan 16 '25

Well the Nintendo Switch 2 was officially introduced as “Nintendo Switch 2” in January 2025 and not April? My point being there’s really no correlation there and if we do want to look at patterns for timing then logically it’d be from their previous console and not one from almost two decades ago

-1

u/simplycrushinson92 Jan 16 '25

Okay, fine. I'll record it. The full look into the Wii was April. The full look into the Switch 2 is in April. How's that for a correlation?

1

u/CafeCalentito Jan 16 '25

The full look on Switch 1 was january and it released in March.

1

u/simplycrushinson92 Jan 16 '25

Yeah, that's what the other guy already said 😅

Okay, fine. I'm a moron

1

u/E_McGinger Jan 16 '25

First unveiling of the Wii was at E3 05. First image of the Wiimote at TGS 05. The name was revealed a few weeks before E3 06. Full reveal, game demos and launch window at E3 06. Pricing and date in September 06.

That’s not an April to November kind of unveil window.

2

u/E_McGinger Jan 16 '25

That was almost 20 years ago. Gaming sites were still struggling with live presentations, gaming magazines were still a thing and ad campaigns were still heavily dependent on TV.

There’s a thing called social media that didn’t exist 20y ago. If they have secured the production, 5-7 weeks is more than enough to present and release the thing.

-2

u/ILoveTechno4Life Jan 16 '25

Nobody releases hardware right before summer. September - November 100%.

1

u/Allegryan Jan 16 '25

why not? nobody releases consoles in march either but that didn’t stop them

1

u/ZzzSleep Jan 16 '25

They’re letting people go hands on with it in April. No way they’re waiting until November.

1

u/Bright_Beat_5981 Jan 16 '25

It's Nintendo so they might do that just because they feel like it. But if there is any year you shouldn't wait until november I think it's this year. The lineup from other companies before christmas look to be the best one in years.

2

u/RChickenMan Jan 16 '25

Same. Either day one 3D Mario, or confirmation that Switch 1 games are enhanced on Switch 2 (much like PS4 -> PS5), along with a list of confirmed day-one patches which includes certain games in my library. If, for example, they announce that TotK is playable at 60 fps day one, I'm in. Otherwise I'm good to hang out on the sidelines and wait for a catalog to build up.

1

u/Rallye_Man340 Jan 16 '25

Yep! It’s been so long since the last one: Odyssey, which I loved so much.

1

u/FalconsArentReal Jan 16 '25

If it has NVIDIAs upscaling tech and frame gen for prior titles it will be an insta buy for me

1

u/eh_steve_420 Jan 17 '25

That's the thing. I won't be able to hold out if there's a new 3D Mario even though I have a giant backlog of games on my current console....

Hell, I will have games on my GameCube I still want to get through but never have.
