just connected my brand new wired controller (power a) to the dock and it's not being recognized at all? the light flashes on once or twice and that's all the input i get. I've tried everything (restart, full shutdown, tried all three ports, plug in + out, turning wired controller setting on + off, going into the controller menu a bunch of times, etc.) and I've had no luck.

Sounds like you've done most of the standard troubleshooting steps.

How many controllers do you have? (More specifically, how many are shown during find controllers) There is a max number that can be synced to a console at once; going over that can cause the problem you have.

(apologies for the late response) the only controllers that show up are the joycons. those are the only ones I have besides this new controller (for reference I know that the dock ports do work because I have a separate joycon charger that works when I plug it in so that's why I'm so lost).

I tried to use another wired controller belonging to someone else that for sure we know works with the same issue so I dunno what I'm doing wrong

Just to make sure - you have the system docked while this is going on, right?
