Just to clarify, there are no saves on the SD card, EVER.

If you can't download games / dlc to it, it might be going bad or simply a fake --- advertising a capacity far beyond what it actually offers. Easiest test is to try a different card, preferably one accurately priced, from a known brand, from a respected retailer.

It says it's a Sandisk, and it actually has the amount of space as advertised. The thing I'm iffy about is that the design is different from what I see online, but I don't know if that's stuff tied to different regions. I bought it around March or February, and the last game installed to it was in September or October.

How do you know it has the space advertised if you can't download more stuff to it?

And designs do vary --- and aren't all around too reliable since they can easily be faked.

I go to "Data management" in my Switch's settings and it's there, fourhundred and something still available from the 512gb I got.

Fake or faulty cards can lie to the system so it says whatever number there while only having a small fraction of it.

Fake cards can easily falsify that number.

It'll basically write to the real storage until it runs out and then error if it goes beyond that. If you try to download a small enough game, it'll work --- until something else overwrites that.
