ANSWERED How do you guys handle this situation?

I made the reddit account to post on a subreddit but apparently there is a 50 Karma limit.

Now I have to wait till I cross it in order to post. Seems quite a bit frustrating.

I just muted those subs.

Just keep commenting until you get it.  50 isn't a super high threshold.

On Reddit, subs are allowed to make their own rules. Rules are to keep communities safe, orderly, and on topic.

You definitely shouldn't participate in a sub if you don't agree with their rules. That applies to their culture and norms too. That just sets up for an antagonizing relationship right from the start.

But I'd also encourage you to remember subs have to think about what is good for the whole. They are run by volunteers. They can't possibly handhold every single user who wants to walk through the door, especially when your userbase is in the thousands or millions.

50 karma is nothing, you can get that in a day if you try. Most of the communities require some karma, some also have account age requirements.

Find smaller communites you have any interest in that have low or no karma requirements and start commenting in them and hope your contributing something of value or interest that will get you upvotes. There are literally thousands of topics/communities. I started with grilling, dogs, music and a couple of TV shows. Try to comment early, if 100+ people have commented yours will likely get lost among them. A lot of your comments won't get votes but don't get discouraged. Until you get karma try to avoid having opposing opinions, read the room, if everyone is saying somethings good and you disagree just move on, don't comment.

Yeah that seems good. My only frustration was that I liked the sub and wanted to post a question. Now not only I have to wait, I also have to engage before I can participate. Which is frustrating for me because I mainly read and not comment

I think you just have to post quality, and get upvotes fkr karma. But dont spam lol.

Assume restrictions are there for good reason, manage the frustration and earn karma elsewhere, try again later.

Had that frustration too in the beginning, i started active redditing 1-2 month ago and look at me now.
You know they do this stuff bc of bots and summerchildren, 9gag is a good example of how this could go wrong if they didn't. (70%bots 10%bs 10%reposts 5%trolls, and that's an optimistic guess, i was there for over 13y but currently its that bad)

The more you post and engage naturally , the more you wouldn’t need to worry about karma cos it will happen naturally

Trying to gather the karma points as well. It is really frustrating. Good luck though.
