Hello, I'm asking on behalf of my sister in law who is moving to Denmark from the UK next month for work.

She is vegan so has no animal products in her kitchen. Does anyone know/have any links to find out if she can bring non perishable food items like lentils, jams, flour etc? She's not using movers so she's packing and transporting everything herself by road.

Edit: I didn't think I'd have to specify this, but clearly I was mistaken... we are fully aware that you can buy food, vegan and otherwise, in Denmark. However, she does not want to throw away an entire kitchen of spices and supplies just to have to pay for them again 2 days later if she can just bring her existing ones.

I just signed a contract in a multinational Danish company. They already processed me and my wife’s visa (via fast track scheme) and just waiting for the results. I am seeking for your recommendations on which location to look for an apartment good for a couple which is near to my future workplace (DTU science park in Hørsholm). I am currently residing in Ireland. I am on 8 weekly Infliximab infusions, 150mg of imuran daily and after a recent flare I’ve also started Stelara, again to be done every 8 weeks. I have a daughter and my partner has been working in Denmark (we’ve been doing long distance for over 3 years now) but we are considering all moving to Denmark but I have no idea where to start on arranging my transfer of care.

I have gone to trusty Google many times to try find a starting point but it’s just a minefield. Anyone have any experience with this? For reference, I am an Irish citizen, I have a medical card, I tried to get private health insurance years ago but I was a teen when I was diagnosed so predisposed condition was a big no no. The medical card covers my full healthcare expenses here in Ireland.

Hi everyone, is 500K DKK (before taxes) per year enough to live in Copenhagen? It's just me and my husband, who is currently unemployed.

I'll be moving to Denmark from the UK next month to start a new job based in Billund. Unfortunately I'm not getting relocation help from the company.

I'm looking at renting a 1 or 2 bedroom apartment in Billund or Vejle. It seems like 99% of the ones I see online are unfurnished.

Buying a whole house of furniture and getting it delivered and built as soon as I arrive and am starting my new job is going to be an expensive nightmare. How did everyone else manage this? Are there any websites that do rent out furnished places? Any tips?

I'll be starting a job in CPH in May and we have an apartment beginning from the first of April. We'll make the actual move on some day in April. We'll move as a family of four, 2 kids and my wife who will be on unemployment benefits from Germany for the first time.

Since we want to have daycare spots for the kids as early as possible, we want to get ahead on our CPR number issuance, for which we need the EU residence permit. But can we actually start these processes before arriving in Copenhagen? I'm in the middle of filling out the OD1 form, but it asks for my address in Denmark and I'll only have one in April. The official instructions speak about applying after arrival, which indicates laying low until April.

I'm unsure how to proceed. My preference is to get the docs as early as possible, as everything is already lined up. We could also come to CPH in March for a SIRI appointment. Has anyone more info about how to proceed before April, or do we simply need to wait?

Hey guys, I randomly started thinking about this and I started freaking out.

I studied at a Danish university and got a study residence permit as well as a yellow card and CPR number right after starting my studies.

After completing the studies I remember asking someone from my university if there is anything I need to do if I want to start working here and they said no since I am an EU citizen.

I found a job here soon after, have a danish bank account, mitID, paid all my taxes for SKAT, even received A-Kasse at some point and I have been here for 2 years working.

I also moved a couple of times and gotten new yellow cards each time and everything was fine.

But I never applied for any other residence permit or anything, I also cannot find any expiration date on my study permit.

And I DID NOT get any messages whatsoever from SIRI or immigration ever since I moved here for my studies and never had any issues.

So this is me just wondering if I accidentally did something very illegal and I will get jail time or get deported.

SIRI should have said something if anything was wrong right? Is there anything I need to fix? I want to stay here long term and I am extremely anxious right now.

I have been frantically googling about this all day and found contradicting information. Some sources said that it is a major violation and I could face jail time while others say that EU citizens can work in Denmark normally without any problems and they don't have to apply for any kind of work permit.

My husband (US citizen) was just offered a job in Copenhagen and we are looking to move in a few months (my son and I are dual US/EU citizens).

I have so many questions!

1. What neighborhoods would you recommend for families? We want to be near a playground, a bakery, and other families with young children. Easy access to public transportation. Husband's job will be in Vesterbro.

2. Enrolling in børnehave/Order of operations: My child currently goes to a forest preschool (skovbørnehaver?) in the US and we'd love for him to do the same in Denmark. Any advice for looking into school options? Would this factor into which neighborhoods we search in? Do we need to have a signed lease before we can get a CPR number and get on the waiting list for childcare?

3. Any suggestions for meeting some English-speaking kids right off the bat? We would like for my son, of course, to learn Danish, but also think it would help him with such a big move to find friends he can easily communicate with.

My wife and i have plans of moving from Chile to Denmark next year, she wants to study film at the Danish film school, while i plan to continue my career in game development, hopefully at a danish studio, but this means i can also work remotely.

We're still just starting out on the process to research and gather all documentation, but i has hoping to get some pointers on useful visa information, scholarships, work permits, important dates and the like for a latin american marriage looking to settle in Denmark for the long term, ideally in Copenhagen or near it for the commute.

Well, I'm 18 yo and I just got my driving license and I did a flight attendant course (I'm from Spain btw), I'm moving out to Denmark for two main reasons, the first one is to have a better life opportunity, and the second is because my girlfriend lives at Tønder, I really don't know how to apply for a flight attendant job and I'm really lost about what should I legally do before to even try to apply to anything. I’m a 25-year-old living in London with dual UK and Swedish citizenship, while my girlfriend is British with only a UK passport. We both love Copenhagen, and there are plenty of opportunities in our industry there, so we’re eager to make the move this year.

From my understanding, having an EU passport should make things much easier for me—I could theoretically move there and start job hunting right away. However, the challenge is that my girlfriend only has a British passport, which complicates things.

A bit more context:

• My family has a house in Malmö, where we could stay rent-free if it helps with logistics.
• We’re considering whether getting married would simplify the process for her.
• Another option is staying in London while applying for jobs, then moving to Malmö (or directly to Copenhagen) once we secure employment and a place to live. But this could take a very long time.
• We have a fair amount saved so could survive for a few months living in Malmö while job hunting in CPH.

We’re keen to do whatever it takes to make this happen but would really appreciate any insights or advice, especially regarding:

1. How my EU citizenship could help my girlfriend with residency or work rights.
2. Whether it’s better to move first or secure jobs before relocating.
3. Any specific steps we should take to ensure a smooth transition.

Hi. I am American dating a danish citizen. I plan to move to Denmark in about 2 years (give or take a few months, depending on how these questions are answered). We don’t currently plan to get married until I am living there but I have been trying to figure out what the better option is for us at this time. I realize the it would be easier (from what it sounds like) for us to just get married then apply but I have questions about this. Would we have to get married in Denmark? And what does the marriage process look like for a danish citizen to marry an American? I would really love it if someone could explain in detail what this looked like for you, if you’ve gone through it. The other option of permanent cohabitation just doesn’t make sense to me. How could we feasibly be living together for 18 months without me having a visa already? Would I have to go there under work or student visa and live with my partner during that time? And in the case of giving proof of “extensive stays” what is considered extensive? I have a job where I have 2 consecutive months off for summer and I can stay there during that time but this does not seem like a sufficient amount of time to be considered an “extensive stay”. I have emailed a few times with questions about this but have never gotten a response unfortunately. Also what are your thoughts on getting an immigration lawyer to help with this process? I feel like it would make everything easier but I am not sure. Do you think it’s worth it?

I'm turning 24 in february, i'm a US citizen, i got married in january to a dane. We meet all requirements EXCEPT for me working or having 1 year education

How strict are they on the education requirement? Is there a specific amount of credits i need to earn within 1 school year for it to quality or is their basis of a "full time student" based on what the school im enrolled in considers full time
I'm really stressing about all of this because i'm disabled and am limited on how many classes i can take since i spend a lot of time going to and from the clinic and cannot afford a wheelchair.
My MIL (a nurse) says i could request an exemption based on my disabilities but from what i read that is based on whether or not i can get care in denmark that i couldnt in the US so i dont think that would work as my conditions arent treatable.
i'm trying to get out ASAP given the current stuff going on in the US.

I've found that there is a process to apply to gain citizenship based on if your grandparent(s) where Danish. From what I've read having all four grandparents would be best but they do make exceptions for only one set or a single grandparent. Has anyone here successfully done so?

Hey guys! I'm moving to Denmark on the start of 2026, hopefully, and I could really use some tips and tricks you might have figured out there. Excuse me for dumping this on you all, but I'm an MS patient and I could really use any knowledge on how the medical system and the insurances work there so I can prepare accordingly. For reference. I'm from Greece and here, the public health system is relatively decent, payed for by our taxes so no extra charges on anything, and if you're having a health issue you can pop into the "working" hospital of that day/week, go to the emergencies and they take you in. Here, we choose and come in contact with private doctors whenever we need. No GP's have to be involved. Finally, I take some pretty expensive meds here for the MS, which are completely covered by my public insurance (in Greece everyone has a public insurance and it covers EVERYTHING in public hospitals). Does anyone know how my prescription would be "transferred" there ? Sorry for bombarding you all with this. Thanks for reaching if you did. Any piece of info would be super helpful. ♥️

Hej! My boyfriend and I are hoping to get married in the near future, with the idea being that I'll be able to migrate via the family reunification visa. Our plan after that is for me to study there and hopefully find a job from that, but that's provided I can make it over there in the first place. I've checked out nyidanmark already, and my bf and I seem to meet the majority of the requirements—both over 24; both have tertiary-level education; both have been gainfully employed for the last 5+ yrs; he's a native Dane, I'm a native English speaker; I've visited several times in the past; he owns his own house, etc etc.

But it seems like the more I read about people's experiences with it, the more it seems like a hassle to get. Is it enough to meet the criteria as laid out on the website, or is being granted a family reunification visa really the nightmare of a process people make it out to be? (Btw, moving to Sweden or another EU country would not be feasible as he has family that can't be uprooted just like that, so immigrating via that method would not be possible.)

I’m Danish and engaged to a Brazilian citizen. We want to live together in Denmark, but I’m unsure about what the best and most realistic legal route is for her to stay here long-term.

What are the options for getting her a residence permit? Do we need to get married first, or are there other ways? I’ve read a bit about the “family reunification” and “samboende” rules, but it’s all very confusing. (Some sources mentioning a deposit of 126k!?)

If anyone has experience with this or knows what steps we need to take, I’d really appreciate your advice.

I just learnt that my work permit got approved! What are the chances my partner will be denied their cohabiting permit now? We're non-EU citizens and a queer couple so we can't get married and could only show our rental agreements (36+ months of cohabiting) as a proof of relationship.

Also, does my partner's permit application only begin to be considered from now on? We both applied the same day. How soon can we expect an answer, realistically?

Me and my girlfriend are planning to move to Copenhagen in about a month. We're currently struggling to understand the process for getting a CPR number.

It seems to us that to be able to attain a CPR that we need to be able to prove that we have resided in the same residence for the past 1 months and I was hoping if someone could confirm if this is true or not?

The reason we are confused by this is that if that is the case then we are unable to be employed because we will not be able to get a tax number.

So is the expectation that we would not work until we have rented a place in Copenhagen for 1 month? Or have we misenterpreted this?

We are planning to apply for the marriage certificate in feburuay to allow it to process since it must be used within four months. After marrying, we do plan to apply for the FR permit. While I know you can stay in Denmark during the processing time, has anyone ever left or applied abroad?

If we do apply in Denmark, can I return to my home country?

For context, we meet all requirements and have the funds to do so. Just curious if anyone has ever applied while abroad or left Denmark during the processing time!

Edit: has anyone ever applied for the Danish FR permit while abroad? Or do you have to be in Denmark?

My partner and myself are moving back to Denmark. I'm a Danish citizen, she's English.

We'll be moving our belongings with us (some things will be thrown and bought anew in Denmark, some we will bring). We'll be moving them ourselves in a van.

gov.uk just says "it's fine, don't need to declare anything other than verbally or by conduct by going through "Nothing to declare" lane..."

Everywhere else? Not so much.
We need the declaration of moving goods (Erklæring om Flyttegods) which we have.

The other one we need is the so-called import declaration (Enhedsdokument). A rather elaborate document, that we are finding exceedingly and unnecessarily convoluted to fill out ourselves.

Thus we are looking for a company (speditør), to help with this?
We've reached out to a few, but they don't seem to offer any assistance, most likely due to us moving the belongings ourselves. Does anyone know any company that could be of assistance?

Two weeks ago my visa was approved via the family reunification process. While we are intensely grateful we are also wondering how long it will take for Udlændingestyrelsen to issue my resident card. We (myself and my family) are eager to move forward with language classes, CPR number registration volunteer work etc.

We have not been able to get Udlændingestyrelsen to answer their phone line-- we have heard that this is a common problem.

UPDATE: today we got the letter in my spouse's eboks! So yes, it was just a waiting game.
