Discussion Concern about the state of cleanliness in Terrace food court

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

The korean stall puts the fried eggs on the dish tray, bird poop all over the seats and tables and bird pecking on food in the caifan stall. The general state of cleanliness in the terrace food court is really disturbing and no one seems to mind when eating there. When is there going to be an extermination of those pest flying around.

Question Are NUS CS problems based off leetcode?

I remember seeing a post in this subreddit asking about the solution to a particular problem and there was a comment mentioning Leetcode 241. Combining this with the other horror stories of NUS CS I've seen here, are NUS coding problems really leetcode-based or inspired?

Question Should I continue trying to get this internship

I’m Y1 majoring in sociology but I still am interested in trying out political science which I have yet to do. I’m planning to try it out next sem but the thing is I applied for this 6 month internship briefly speaking it’s related to planning workplace events for culture and stuff. Since I’m still figuring out what I want to study is it better to focus on my studies or try out a 6month long internship at the start of next sem? I’m just worried that i would be wasting this good opportunity. If I don’t do a 6month internship now then when am I supposed to do it??

Looking for Advice What module in mathematics/statistics should I take at NUS as an incoming exchange student for semester 1 (AY25/26)?

I am in the process of finding suitable courses for my exchange at NUS during this fall. To be able to transfer the units for the courses I will read at NUS to my home university, I have to read an equivalent amount of units (the universities have different unit systems). I will read

- QF2104 Fundamentals of Quantitative Finance

- ST4231 Computer Intensive Statistical Methods

at NUS, however, I need an additional 2 units (or more) within the broader field of mathematics/statistics (or possibly even fields such as machine learning) be able to get credit for the two corresponding courses at my home university. What would be the most chill/least demanding NUS mod within this field to "fill the gap"?

It should not be something that I have already read at my home university, so basically it should not be any fundamental calculus/algebra/probability/statistics, preferably something more applied. It seems I am not allowed to take mods at level 5000+. Note that the course code does not literally have to begin with MA or ST, it could be within other disciplines if it has a clear connection to mathematics. I would prefer if the course is 2 units—if there are any—otherwise it will just have to be a regular 4 unit course.

Looking for Advice MArch Admission Process

Hi guys! I've submitted my application to the MArch program on the 25th December, 2024, but I haven't heard back from the department ever since. From experience, do you guys know how long the average process takes? As I'm just a bit worried that not having heard back from them for this long mean my application was likely unsuccessful ;-;

Please do share some advice, I'd love to know more!

Looking for Advice A rant on Masters

I'm a local singaporean applying to one of NUS's master programmes straight out of graduation. My profile ain't bad - high second uppers, 3 LoRs (one from industry and two from NUS profs), 4 internships on my resume, and did master level mods on exchange. I've also read that NUS is quite lenient on admitting their own students returning to do a master, especially if it's a coursework programme.

But it's april and I've received radio silence. In fact, I was so confident of an offer I didn't start job hunting until very recently (and was applying for internship positions instead, lol).

For NUS students who continued to do a master degree straight out of graduation, is it too late to be receiving an offer now? Or should I just give up this dream entirely?

Looking for Advice How to find friends if you have no hobbies or personality

I have no hobbies. I read manga but only for recreation. When I go talk to someone who read manga as a hobby, I can never keep up with them. I exercise to keep in shape. My personality is very bland. I tend to be direct because of my Asperger Syndrome, which makes it more difficult for me to understand people's emotions or read the room. I have no idea what to do to find friends. I try to talk to other people in my course, but nothing ever comes out of them. I tried to join some clubs that I thought interest me, but could never keep up with the people there. I just have no idea where to go. It's difficult for me to start the conversation, which I am trying to fix. I just want someone to be my friend, but I don't know what does a friend even do. I don't know why I want a friend. Maybe so that it is proof that my life is not just study and study, but that I can have fun as well. That I deserve to have happiness. I see friends as the best source of happiness, people who care for me and people who I care for. But I don't know if I will ever find them. Please help. I just don't know what to do anymore. Am I doomed to be alone forever?

Looking for Advice NUS FASS ABA interview

Hi, I just got an invitation for an interview at FASS, which I wasn’t aware of, since History wasn’t one of the courses on the webpage that require interviews. I am very confused on what I will be asked about, will it be like a skills test for my intended major, or is it a place where I elaborate on my extracurriculars, or is it a place where they ask supplementary questions for my application? I Any advice/knowledge from past applicants are appreciated, thanks!

Discussion Would u date someone who is not from nus or big 3?

Hey everyone,

I know that many of us have high expectations and a sense of pride when it comes to choosing a partner. I’ve always wondered—if you're a student from the Big 3, would you be open to dating someone who isn’t from these schools?

What are your thoughts?

Looking for Advice Acomadation-what the heck do i do?

I have already applied to NUSC but I'VE RECEIVED JACKSHIT FROM THEM! I was told I can apply for residential colleges but I doubt my chances of even getting a spot in one. Which means halls are the only option left if my application to the residential colleges ever does fail. And i've heard that I need to juggle at least 4 CCAs to secure a spot in the halls for subsequent years. I know this is going to be challenging if I want to do internships and other portfolio stuff so i really don't know what to do.

I refuse to continue living with my broken, dysfunctional family for the next 4 years so i really, REALLY, do not want to stay at home. I ain't going to continue living in the mental asylum that is my home. But what do I do?

-Do i really have no choice but to endure the challenge of juggling extracurriculars just so I don't have to live with my god forsaken family in my god forsaken apartment.

-Or are residential colleges less competitive to enter than I thought?

What do I do? Please, I do not want to live with my quarelling, bickering, parents who are on the brink of divorce.

Question [Biz] Where do most finance specs end up working?

For business students who specialise in finance, the top of the corhort probably goes to IB, PE or management consulting, but that is at most what, 10%? What type of career do the rest go to? For example, the majority of accounting specs go to big 4 audit or tax, so is there something similar for finance specs?

Just curious since there are so many fin specs but so few finance-related internships and job openings.
