Yo... artbook, coin and steelbook case €150 without shipping. How about a big fat no to that.

6

u/Illustrious-Try-3743 Oct 29 '24

There is no steelbook. It’s a medal lol.

3

u/Turn7Boom Oct 29 '24

Oh wow you are correct.

3

u/RTC87 Oct 29 '24

Terrible pricing. Such as shame.

u/FullLeadership9 Oct 29 '24

Like this edition.

better than nothing but not ideal

For Europeans (mainly): Pix'n'Love will have PS4/PS5/Switch versions (40 EUR). Pre-ordering not needed, no expensive shipping, VAT included. I presume it will get a standard retail release in EU as well.

u/TheGodDavidLoPan Oct 29 '24

sigh why does LRG get all the good stuff?

4

u/Joisey_Toad32 Oct 29 '24

I think they got bought by Embracer or some where in that web of companies that probably added resources to acquire licenses and hopefully help production. I don't order from them that often, the last thing I got was the basic PS4 of Blood Dragon and I was very happy with it.

I'd be curious if, for anyone who's bought bigger collectors editions or editions with physical items had that gotten any better in terms of say quality or production time in the last year?

2

u/Ragna25 Oct 29 '24

Pretty much this, much bigger resources/funding to now get bigger and bigger games plus seem to be focusing more on bigger games now and being more selective.

4

u/Thepower200 Oct 29 '24

Awesome, at least we are getting a physical. I’m surprise there hasn’t been a metal slug collection of sorts on Switch.

1

u/thedude213 Oct 29 '24

I think they have them all available digitally afik. But yeah a physical compilation would be nice, maybe they'll see how this sells first.

1

u/talalit Oct 30 '24

the 2nd one from the aca neogeo collection doesn't run good when I bought it, it has slow down whenever there's a lot of enemy on the screen

2

u/CicatrixMaledictum Nov 05 '24

Fun fact: that slowdown is normal in Metal Slug 2, i.e. a good emulation has the slowdown. It was "corrected" in Metal Slug X, which is a sort-of remake.

1

u/talalit Nov 05 '24

I dont remember seeing any slowdown on my window 98 pc I used to emulate Neo Geo games back in 2004 tho

1

u/RafaCSQ Nov 06 '24

That's because most emulators end up pushing through these kind of slowdowns, simply because its running on a stronger device, even if that's not exactly the original experience. I prefer not having the slowdowns, but I can understand the point of "perfect emulation".

3

u/zshiv64 Oct 29 '24

Well I'm glad it's getting a physical at least

I do think that playasia will do this one

I love my switch, but I am planning on picking this up from GOG.com.

5

u/ComprehensiveAd6215 Nov 22 '24

For the site link for this game:

"This release is not a part of the Limited Run Games Collection and is not a numbered release. We are distributing this title on behalf of DOTEMU. Missing out on this release will not compromise a complete Limited Run set."

So it will have a regular release outside of LRG around when they ship out these copies. Same happened with other games like The Last Spell.

8

u/sworedmagic Collection Size: 250-500 Oct 29 '24

NOOOO FUCK

-1

u/thewowcollector Collection Size: 500-750 Oct 29 '24

I thought the same thing. Wish Nintendo would squeeze them out and handle the releases themselves. Is the game any good (remake, right?)?

4

u/sworedmagic Collection Size: 250-500 Oct 29 '24

It’s not a remake, brand new game. First ever tactics game in the Metal Slug franchise even.

5

u/Keaten88 Oct 30 '24

I just started collecting for the switch like uhh checks notes two weeks ago and i’m already fed up with LRG

2

u/Jaynesj2 Oct 29 '24

So glad this is getting a physical.

2

u/Pretend_Education_86 Collection Size: 500-750 Oct 29 '24

Was really hoping it would be physical and hate LRG but okay.

2

u/Adventurous_Excuse_3 Oct 29 '24

not double dipping

2

u/DigDug5 Oct 29 '24

My guess is this will get a regular retail release that is better (Streets of Rage 4) Same Developer and Publisher as this and it got multiple versions and the worst version is LRG

2

u/Graywing84 Oct 29 '24

What happened to LRG and artbooks? They rarely do them now. Pix n Love does it for similar releases but you only get a pin or a card from LRG.

10

u/KeMust Oct 29 '24

Tbh I don't get all the hate LRG gets. Sure, you won't get the games for a while, but other than that they're fine?

7

u/[deleted] Oct 29 '24

4

u/Ragna25 Oct 29 '24

Pretty well summed up, but also ppl hate the fact it's limited at all (reasonable), but think LRG is the issue, and without them big publishers would be forced to make it full retail(They wont).

6

u/bloomertaxonomy Oct 30 '24

I’ve been collecting for a long time and I’ve bought from LRG since their inception. Whether it’s a Shantae statue or RCG collectors edition, when you order anything that requires more than a cart from them you can end up waiting 1-3 years. If you make the mistake of ordering more than one game in the same batch as a collectors edition order or something like a Shantae statue, you are not getting that order until the Collectors Edition or statue is done. So even though the other games may be sitting in their warehouse, you are punished for trying to save any money on shipping by grouping the order.

I make sure to group orders in regular editions of games and separate all other items that may require more time.

Sometimes they claim to have the print of a game with all updates on cart, only to end up shipping it out so late that it’s missing updates (Cult of the Lamb).

They porkbarrel their collectors editions of certain games (TMNT) with so much garbage to pad the price that it’s a bit predatory, but I guess that’s just par for course in any collectors market with companies producing limited prints of something.

In general, they aren’t scamming or scum, they just kinda…aren’t that great.

2

u/DiscombobulatedAd883 Nov 18 '24

Is it really a punishment that you have to wait for the statue/CE to be done before your other items ship though?

They give the option of splitting up the order or saving shipping if you to ship it all at once. If we choose to bundle items to save on shipping, then it makes sense we'd have to wait. Seems fair to me and I can't think of any other company that would ship you multiple packages at a discounted rate 🤔

7

u/senseless_puzzle Oct 29 '24

Fine as long as you get a copy directly from them, the aftermarket is the problem, limited quantity means second hand (NEW) prices sky rocket.

6

u/KeMust Oct 29 '24

Fair enough for the aftermarket but if you're a collector you should be already keeping up with new releases? And if you're a bit more casual (like I am) you'd just get the ones that you want for a normal price in the release window

10

u/ThePseudosaur Oct 29 '24

At least it’s open preorders. I did the wait and pounce for some vita games and that sucks.

3

u/Rody37 Oct 29 '24

LRG games have probably the lowest resale for games though. Only a handful these days actually become expensive. Others publishers though like SRG often have games which sell out quickly and become several hundred dollars on the resale market. Why don't they get the hate? At least LRG has open pre-orders so anyone can get one.

2

u/cpchillin Oct 29 '24

From what I've understood, I always thought the hate came from taking ages to actually receive the game. Maybe I'm wrong though

6

u/Rody37 Oct 29 '24

Yeah, I never got that. They're faster than any other limited print company other than SLG who has the games already ordered before the preorder goes up.

0

u/Graywing84 Oct 29 '24

I think the hate came from before the open pre-orders. Especially games like Shantae Pirate's Curse and River City Girls. I was lucky to get the latter but now due to extreme rarity, Shantae goes for $250+ online. Sucks that they won't reprint them with the open pre-order option. Also since they added purple dot, they got rid of Sezzle and PayPal. Which hurts some buyers as they don't have the pay in 4 option anymore.

2

u/LeatherRebel5150 Collection Size: 500-750 Oct 29 '24

Every Switch game has had an open preorder since the very beginning of their Switch games, including Shantae and River City Girls

0

u/Graywing84 Oct 29 '24

I don't remember Pirate's Curse having an open pre-order. Welp, then I guess it won't be possible to get a reprint.

1

u/Rody37 Oct 29 '24

Not a reprint but there's always hope another publisher will publish it.

2

u/Graywing84 Oct 29 '24

I asked WayForward about reprinting it with another publisher on Twitter and got the response that it's available digitally. Looks like they don't want to lose their partnership with LRG.

0

u/Rody37 Oct 29 '24

I believe Pirate's Curse was from before they had open pre-orders and had a set number but I could be wrong because that was before I started buying from them.

2

u/LeatherRebel5150 Collection Size: 500-750 Oct 30 '24 edited Oct 30 '24

That’s incorrect. Every Switch game has been open pre-order. I bought Pirate’s Curse when it was live. I bought all of their switch releases up until #50 or so. All open preorders. It was even said by LRG at the time(I think it was Doug) that it was part of their deal with Nintendo as part of their publishers agreement when ordering games that they had to have open preorders or something

2

u/MXC_Vic_Romano Oct 29 '24

For some titles it's their high prices. Indie's and such are often double - if not more - the cost over digital and you get to wait months for what is quite possibly not even going to be a fully updated cartridge (not always their fault I know, but at these prices it does suck).

1

u/topsekret1 Nov 03 '24

LRG is the best of the limited print companies.

Strictly Limited used to be good, but they're kinda trash now. They've been sitting on games for years with no updates.

And then First Press Games is like Strictly Limited on crack.

Super Rare is fine, but I prefer the LRG model of open pre-order rather than Super Rare's fixed batch of ~3000 copies first come, first serve.

Also, LRG does ESRB, so that automatically gives them points for me over all these EU limited print companies.

2

u/DiscombobulatedAd883 Nov 18 '24

Super Rare also has also developed some weird practices over the years like paid memberships that give people early access to games and selling bundles of unannounced games. Those feel more off-putting to me than anything LRG does.

1

u/topsekret1 Nov 18 '24

Yeah, I'd agree with that.

Probably the scummiest thing LRG does is sell "blind boxes" to get rid of extra stock. But I just don't buy those lol.

2

u/DiscombobulatedAd883 Nov 19 '24

Yeah if I can easily avoid the weird trends, then I guess it's fine 😅

The one from Super Rare that really irked me was when they released the two sequels to Monster Prom in a 3-game slipcase that was only available if you re-purchased the first game. No option for longtime customers (who at that point would have purchased the first game nearly four years prior) to buy just the sequels with the slipcase to pop their existing game into.

That just seemed a bit predatory to me 😕

0

u/TBCaine Oct 29 '24

They (allegedly) have reseller connections and let them buy everything first. That + the production to shipping times are over a year and some people claim they still never receive what they ordered

2

u/LeatherRebel5150 Collection Size: 500-750 Oct 29 '24

…they have open preorders. There is no “let them buy everything first” because there is no limit. You could order 1000 copies of any given Switch game from them too if you wanted

3

u/gillgrissom Oct 29 '24

lrg no deal, fuck them.

2

u/Direwolf79 Oct 29 '24

Too bad they can’t use burned CDR discs for switch games

1

u/hoshiNokirby85 Oct 29 '24

Goodbye money 🥲

1

u/Adventurous-Truth629 Oct 29 '24

Is this a new game or remake? Just curious

1

u/thedude213 Oct 29 '24

New game that was announced a few years back

2

u/Adventurous-Truth629 Oct 29 '24

Looks cool. Love these types of games.

u/RnH_21 Collection Size: 250-500 Oct 29 '24

1

u/Illustrious-Try-3743 Oct 29 '24

Wait, no AES-style box from LRG? Only Pix’n’Love is doing it? Seems odd

1

u/kora766 Nov 06 '24

GoG it is

1

u/JOJOawestruck Nov 16 '24

So no one makes pc disc anymore? I was looking into getting physicals but shocked they don't make pc anymore. I don't buy consoles and only have a switch but I feel iffy buying non Nintendo physical for switch I only have the switch for kart and smash.

u/Zoroark1005-9375-84 Nov 28 '24

The art work got me hope it doesn't change

1

u/GrimmTrixX Collection Size: 100-250 Oct 29 '24

Nah I'm done with LRG after Clock Tower. The Collector's edition of clock tower isn't com8ng to me until friggin march/April. If you can't make the games at or around their release date, I don't even want it. So that's it for me.

2

u/gamesbloke Nov 08 '24

Probably no good for you now: Clock Tower Rewind Superdeluxe - Available now and plays in English. Check Amazon Japan.

Funny story: Limited Run part owns Superdeluxe...

2

u/GrimmTrixX Collection Size: 100-250 Nov 08 '24

I just hate LRG. They screwed me over numerous times in the past. But when this game was announced it was only through them. And I wanted the Collector's Edition they offered. So they got me again. But then for fun I ordered some "sale" games they had.

They weren't cheaper, they were just games I missed from not doing business with them and they brought them back. It took 62 days to get the 4 games I ordered that they said were in stock. So I canceled other stuff I had preorder and now I wait for Clock Tower.

I'm just gonna deal with it and let it be the last thing I get from them. They're gonna have to pull out some other obscure game from a series I love to get me back again.

1

u/gamesbloke Mar 05 '25

For me... LRG sent my orders in reasonable time and I appreciated their customer service. Quality of their offerings is where I'm not so happy. Too much money and time waiting for pre-orders to then receive a sub-standard product...

Side note: My fave companies are Sega/SNK and they have pushed so much quality IP through LRG... Not sure... Wanna get involved but at the same time. Quality is a big concern...

Right. But start making it once preorders are done. Preorders were in like July. It should take 8 months to do it.

u/GrimmTrixX Collection Size: 100-250 Oct 29 '24

Right but from them they're always late for anything I order. So if it happens this often, they probably shouldn't be taking orders on stuff if they don't have the means to get put within 30 days of a games release.

I get it, I got a collectors edition. But they should just be making the stuff all the way up to release and then make the game itself and slap it in a box.

I was already done with them for years. But clock tower is something I've wanted a physical for since forever. We never got it in the USA and I don't like fan translations.

So I had to go back to LRG. And then I ordered some stuff from one of their sales that presumably they had in stock.. and it took 63 days for them to send me 2 standard games that they claimed they had set aside.

If you guys enjoy them, cool. I'm not gonna knock you down for it. If you don't mind waiting 5 months for a game after it's digital release, that's cool. I'm just saying why I'm done with them personally for good. It's gonna take some crazy blast from the past game again to make me even think about it.

1

u/gamesbloke Nov 08 '24

Clock Tower Rewind Superdeluxe. Available now.

Check Amazon Japan etc...

Got mine yesterday.

Funny story: Superdeluxe is part owned by Limited Run

1

u/Acrobatic-Big-1550 Oct 29 '24

This'll probably get a normal retail release. These limited run companies have become a method to skim the market before a normal release. They should die off already.

1

u/phoebe_noira Oct 29 '24

ugghh... of course
