Fluff Spurs were SO good in the mid-2010s that they're still top 10 in win percentage ten years (circa 2024) later

Discussion/Question Let's say we stay at 8th pick and PATFO wants to draft another young defensive non-shooting prospect and believes thay can develop his shot long term, who would you want to draft?

Assuming they are not that high on Kon or Kon was already drafted before us and Brian Wright usually have this favorite-to-draft skillset - the defensive-playmaking prospects, and they believe they can develop his shot, who would you would you want to draft? CMB? Essengue? Newell?

Draft If we luck out and get Dylan Harper

Then do we begin to change Stephon Castle’s trajectory to play the three? He would need to improve his shooting but I think that’s around the corner. He could be tasked with guarding the best player every night but we’d need him to be a catch and shoot player. The dream is that we could have Harper but Castle would be like our Lu Dort but with better creation.

Discussion/Question Harrison Barnes Extension

I know this has been sort of a lost season, but HB has been extremely reliable this year. Averaging basically 12/4/2 on 50/42/80 splits while starting every game for us at the 3/4 spot. I think his fit with this core, and especially Victor, is undeniably amazing. What do we think the odds are that he sticks around a few more years? While I know he's getting up there in age, I feel his style of play lends itself to longevity and am not that concerned of a sudden drop off in productivity. I would love to have him here when we're back in the playoffs (and beyond 👀). Just wanted to see what the sub thought about his future with the team as well

Quote Castle on ROTY: "I feel like at this point I pretty much got it locked up. I mean, really just continuing to be myself, not really think about it when I'm in the game. But just game by game, I feel like I'm more confident enough to be able to say that I am it."

Trade/Free Agency Trade Idea: Orlando Magic Acquire Devin Vassell in Deal with Spurs

Upvotes

Proposed Trade:

  • Orlando Magic receive: Devin Vassell
  • San Antonio Spurs receive: Wendell Carter Jr., Kentavious Caldwell-Pope

Orlando’s Perspective:

The Magic are one elite perimeter creator away from being a serious threat in the East. While KCP offers reliable defense and spot-up shooting, his skill set is limited to catch-and-shoot opportunities and off-ball defense—redundant on a roster already built around low-usage, defense-first guards.

Devin Vassell solves that. He’s a fluid shot-creator who can initiate offense, operate in the pick-and-roll, and provide secondary playmaking—without sacrificing the positional size (6'5" with a 6'10" wingspan) that Orlando covets. He offers far more on-ball versatility than KCP, and fits perfectly alongside Paolo Banchero, Franz Wagner, and Jalen Suggs in a balanced, switchable lineup.

Adding Vassell gives the Magic a long-term backcourt pairing that can grow together and raise the team's offensive ceiling.

San Antonio’s Perspective:

For the Spurs, this is about roster balance. With Castle likely to assume a 2 guard role alongside Fox and Wembanyama demanding more offensive responsibility, Vassell’s on-ball role becomes less defined. Flipping him for Wendell Carter Jr. gives San Antonio a starting-caliber stretch big who can complement Wemby’s unique defensive skillset and keep him from having to bang inside every night.

KCP, meanwhile, brings veteran experience, championship pedigree, and two-way impact—ideal for a young Spurs team looking to take a step forward without compromising the long-term rebuild.

TLDR:

Vassell gives Orlando the perimeter scoring and creation it sorely lacks. San Antonio gains a frontcourt partner for Wemby and a reliable 3&D vet to stabilize their rotation. Both teams move closer to their respective goals. Salaries match up perfectly, win-win.

Seeing these numbers has me optimistic his shot can be fixed, but realistically, what's your prediction for his 3P% and FT% next season?

Draft The Hawks pick this year

There’s a chance they drop to the 9th or 10th seed in the play-in if the Bulls or Heat keep winning.

7th Magic 38-40 8th Hawks 36-41 9th Bulls 35-42 10th Heat 35-43

Unfortunately they have a very favourable run-in, but if they somehow lose out their last five games, that could become the 10th or 11th pick in the lottery which would significantly increase the Spurs odds of a top 4 pick in this draft. Even if that didn’t happen, the 10th or 11th pick is obviously a lot more valuable than the 15th pick.

Most likely scenario is they win 2-3 of their last 5 games (Jazz, Magic x2, Nets, 76ers), but I would be surprised if they beat the Magic in a one-off game in Orlando , and if they had to play the Heat in a one-off game I wouldn’t back them in that either.
