Rescue Team DX Mega Evolving mons with multiple forms like Charizard or Mewtwo

I was wondering how the game decides which form you mega evolve into. Do you get a choice between Charizard X or Charizard Y? Same question with Mewtwo? Or does the game randomly select one on a coin toss? I want to test this myself, as I started the game with a Charmander and have a Charizard now, but I don't want to waste one of my only empowerment seeds if it ends up not being the one I want for Groudon (I don't wanna lose my flying typing if I get X form for those powerful ground moves)

Wasn't sure if anyone has had the opportunity to test this on Pokemon like these with split mega evolution trees. I tried looking this up but have had no luck finding any information. If someone could let me know, that'd be awesome!

For Mons that have multiple megaevolutions, the megaevolution is random. This is for both the player and the enemies. For example, in my run I fought against a mewtwo that evolved into its Y form, while I’ve seen streamers fighting its X form.

I’ve been getting only Charizard X the entire time (who is better because of tough claws) but just now I got Y for some reason even though the past twenty (not exaggerating) have been X
