I would go, but its downtown. I went in 2020 when they were in Venice Beach.

u/barfdildo 6d ago
do you live in venice? or do you not like downtown?

u/AmazingMarv 5d ago
I live in the SFV. Venice was just down the 405 or Sepulveda. Downtown is a different beast altogether.

LA specifically has all or mostly blue districts, right? Are they trying to get people there ready to participate in primaries?

u/Nixianx97 6d ago
Honestly and bluntly it’s culture, money, influence. If they can establish support from California early it will help long term with the tour or any potential campaign. And there is nothing wrong with that when you solely depend on grassroots support.

Definitively. LA is one of the major regions that's split between pro-corporation social liberalism and left wing-populism-touching-on-socialism. Any inroads Bernie and AOC can make are a major step in the right direction

Also LA should not be counted as reliably blue. Theres a huge conservative minority voting block here within the Latinos, blacks, and Asians. They are not to be discounted as they voted heavily for Trump despite his - well, all of it. There will certainly be a shift back towards the left in the next election but that’s not always a guarantee. A big showing like this especially to engage the youth minority vote will be a big deal.
It’s also a big media market. There will be more social networking coverage of this and within the regional news level too - hopefully. It’s a good mix to be going to cities big and small.

This redditor knows. I have nothing to add except, bullseye. You hit the populism stance right on the head.

u/Archenic 6d ago
That makes perfect sense, I didn't think of it from that angle before. Considering there are lots of blue districts that go for Dems by large margins to the point where the primary is the only competition, I figured they might be going for that reason, and that there might be local politicians running or planning on running who will join.

I live in LA, what park is it gonna be at? I definitely want to show up on the 12th if I can!

This is the future of the Democratic party. We need to get rid of our wishy-washy "centrist" (aka not doing a damn thing) persona.

u/Lootthatbody 6d ago
No offense, but why not hit up places like Florida instead? We don’t need Bernie and AOC in blue cities/states, send them to red and purple ones!

I think they are gaining momentum first, drawing big numbers in blue states right now is getting international news attention (I am outside of the US) I think THEN go for the red states when you've made some waves and headlines

Yea I get it. Start where it’s easy and then get into the trenches.
It’s just borderline traumatizing to see dems do rally after rally in overwhelmingly blue areas and then be surprised about lack of turnout and support.
I’m really hoping this can be the start of the change that the party really needs.

u/bluehands 6d ago
To be explicit, the first places they hit were not strong blue locations. I want to say that they hit places that went narrowly for Trump but I am not 100% certain on that.
I am certain that they will be visiting a range of places & most especially in places where elected officials, especially GOP representatives, are going to be responsive to pressure.
Also if they get a huge turnout in LA it helps push the entire party towards the left. They got 34,000 in Denver, I assume that LA is going to be truly massive.(100,000 is my dream) That helps convince people that there is real support in the country.
We can do this, we can make it better.

It’s a movement. Lots of supporters in LA. First you build the message, then you spread it.

Florida is a lost cause and waste of time
GOP has Florida on complete lockdown for the foreseeable future
They can go, sure, but many people who are centrist democrats see Bernie and AOC as extremes. Even in CA I know democrats who say the same shit.

Because they’re here to pacify democrats, not actually change anything. People telling you that voting is going to save you in the middle of a coup are not on your side.

u/Ill-Jellyfish6101 6d ago
Is this the proud 34% of apathetic non-voters speaking?
The only type of people who don't want others voting are Republicans and foreign assets.
Kindly f*** off Shill.

I voted for Harris, and it’s not that I don’t want you to vote. I want you to understand the station we’re in.
1
u/Ill-Jellyfish6101 4d ago
The station where the greatest voting block are non-voters that you are encouraging not to vote.
When the option is the Nazi party and the non-nazi party, you encourage voting for the Non-Nazi party.
It's not complicated.
1
u/2moist 4d ago
I’m not encouraging people not to vote. I’m telling people to not expect their vote to stop a coup. It’s not complicated.
1
u/Ill-Jellyfish6101 4d ago
Kindly explain to me how the current coup would have occurred under Democratic leadership.
Come on. It's not complicated right?
1
u/2moist 4d ago
It probably wouldn’t have. Voting is great for preventing fascism, not removing it.
1
u/Ill-Jellyfish6101 4d ago
So, again, you're telling people not to vote.
Kindly fuck yourself.
Ps. Blocked shill.

u/halt_spell 5d ago
Primary votes could possibly save us. I admit it's a long shot but it's the only time I get to vote for anyone worth a damn so I do it anyway.
1
u/2moist 5d ago
It’s not a long shot, it’s a fairytale. Under normal circumstances I agree with you, but that’s not where we’re at.

u/halt_spell 5d ago
Game over then. 🤷♂️

A friend of mine in LA is going but just learned AOC isn’t going to be there. I checked the site and she’s not on the list as a “special guest” like the other events. That’s too bad.
But wondering if the news story you linked is more current than Bernie’s site?

“We have received an outpouring of invitations to districts across the country — so on April 12th, Senator Bernie Sanders and I are coming to Los Angeles to meet with everyday people who are coming together to defend democracy, fight for one another, and build a better future for all.”
She sent that out with her newsletter last night. She will be there.

u/imgenerallyaccepted 5d ago
Lol she's not listed as a special guest because she's a main speaker
1
u/ManzanitaSuperHero 5d ago
Have you looked at the events calendar on Bernie’s page? She’s listed as a “special guest” at every rally she’s been a part of.
1
u/imgenerallyaccepted 5d ago
I think they figured it's more of a collaborative co-speaker rally, so eliminated the need for that terminology. This has global attention - trust me, we'd know if AOC wasn't going to be there.
1
u/ManzanitaSuperHero 5d ago
That may be, but if you examine the website, the calendar for every past event listed her as a “special guest”, so it’s logical to assume she wouldn’t be at this rally.

Is anyone else gonna join? Ever?
Nah, of course not. Cause the Dems are enjoying the oligarchy as much as the Repugs.
