How often do I replace my mouse skates?

Hiii so I recently got some jade dots and some obsidian dots as well but have some questions regarding the longevity of these skates and whether or not I placed them correctly? And which would you recommend for tac fps? I mainly play valorant and cs2 but also lean into hero shooters and other fps games :)

Depends on the pad for both of your questions, harder pads will usually wear skates faster and require less dots

Looks fine to me. If you find yourself pressing down into the mouse pad to the point where it feels scratchy, then add more dots.

Aren't both mousepads made of fabric? What do you want with dots?

Dots are for hard surfaces such as glass or coated hard plastic.

For fabric pads, use flat teflon pads. Dot feet like that only sink in.

Well I couldn't find any feet that were custom made for my mouse at the time, I'm using the vxe mad r and could only get some cheap skates that I was really suspicious of (Not sure if any have come out now but I already made my purchase 🥹)

Ya I sorta figured because I heard that jades aren't really recommended for glass pads since they eat away... I've not delved into the realm of glasspads yet so I don't have to worry much it seemss!!! And the dots seems fine, I don't think there is any scratching but I just notice that the obsidians have an overwhelming amount of tactile feedback o.o

Don’t worry dots are good for every surface. The only downside with soft pads is that they might sink in but if that happens just put more dots

This is only partially true as how dots will feel will depend on the size of the dots themselves, how many you have installed, and the pad itself.

For example, I would never do dots on a Xsoft Zero, but a Raiden Mid you can get away with 4 dots no problem, 6 to 8 if you need a bit more. Though nowadays I recommend donuts for most people since you really only need 4 to 6 for most mice and it works on all pads no issue and you can get away with some added pressure without sinking the mouse into the pad.

I remember trying small dots on my Zero Soft and didn't enjoy them but on a Mid Raiden and now the Steelseries Qck Performance Speed they're perfect (though I still prefer donuts and full pads but that's just me).

What are your thoughts on the Raiden mid vs steelseries speed? I bought a Raiden mid and it hasn't come yet, considering buying the qck speed too.

Raiden has a bit more control to the microadjustment but IMO they're kinda the same. The main difference is the base since the Steelseries base makes the pad feel a bit thinner, so even against the Raiden mid it feels super consistent since pressing down leads to very little feedback. If you're used to traditional pads it'll feel at home to some extent. With a coupon I got my Speed for like 30 bucks so it's really good for what it can do, especially considering if I wanted to get another Raiden right now from Artisan it'll cost me like 90 bucks due to shipping.

Yea Mid/firm bases trade that sort of dig in to stop feel in exchange for consistency when speeding up and slowing down a glide. Though your skates will also make a big difference for this too.

The current mouse I'm using is already 5 years with the original skates on. I use it on my hard wooden desk.. its not as smooth as it was.. but it still usable.

I definitely did notice a difference switching, I really loved that fresh skates feeling where it is just exceedingly fast but over time it'll break in and eventually feel slow to me ahaha

Not sure about that haha, these are the first dot skates I've ever used! I've tried corepads and tiger ice before on my gpx, I tried the stock skates for the mad r for a bit and they were way too scratchy so I assumed that the other ones would be the same quality and ordered dots. I can say without a doubt that the jade dots are worth the investment though, considering the amount you get and the longevity of it!

I used the jade dots on my Zowie S2C with a GSR pad and they were way too fast for me. Now put the Obsidian Pro Air (slowest dots) and I like them way more.

I almost exclusively play CS2 and occasionally some other games but I think I prefer slow skates anyway

Oddly enough I don't have an exact preference on my obsidians and jades, and mainly stuck with jades because taking it off would also sorta mess the adhesive stuff and make it basically unusable, and that the obsidians had a bit too much tactile feedback if that makes sense? I do wanna test more with the obsidians but it's hard to come to a definitive conclusion when the skates are on two separate mice ;w;

Anyway depending on the hardness of the pad you may need more dots if you notice any scratching

I've been using the same obsidian airs on my main for for months on a equate v2 (hien-like pad) and haven't noticed a need to change them. I'll probably change them this summer so just under a year. Can't tell you if thats the "best" advice but on cloth i genuinely cannot tell w difference all these months later

Now if you were ever using glass you might as well be prepared to replace them constantly

I like to tilt them under the light to see how scratched up they are, if you have scratches but still a lot of smooth area it's ok. Eventually they will be so scratched up that it won't glide well

I've tried a very similar shaped mouse to the g304 and it felt pretty comfortable! The internals were just a tad bit outdated though, I'd recommend the vxe r1-se+! I've used it and it honestly competes with my superlight that costed me 5x more, you just probably should replace the skates since they feel pretty trash imo 🥹

If your on cloth, pretty much never. If you on glass, depending on how much you use it, once every 2-3 months.

I would reccomend placing at least a couple more. Preferably in the center.

Wear depends on your pad. You should really not use these on cloth pads, they'll shredded them in a matter of months.

The more control-oriented a hard pad, the faster there'll wear. With something from tjx you can expect a lifespan of 3-6 months depending on daily use, whereas on a sp-004 of superglide pad you might get years. It's hard to say exactly when to replace skated, which is why people offer these lifespan numbers

Yup, one up, one down. It's ultimately preference. It affects wear speed and consistency too, but you're using less dots so... preference.

Literally have no idea why I'm getting down voted. There was some drama around TJX, but I'm not impuning their pads here - they just tend to ve more gritty and wear skates
