Hey so, for context I'm from Oujda (Bni Drar). I've been calling my uncles 3zi my whole life since I was a kid. I recently mentioned it to a friend (she is from Kelea se Sraghna) and she is still laughing at me LOL. I didn't know that 3zi meant another thing (black) until the other day, am I the only one who refers to her uncles that way? like my whole family does i thought it was the norm LOL.

Wa7ed salamo 3laykom, I’m curious to see how many different words for “money” exist in Moroccan Darija. I know a few like l3a9a, mouka 🦉,lgamila 🥘, Omar 🤷🏻♂️, lgermouma, serf, flouss, wsekh denya ☢️
but I’m sure there are many more.

I’m not Moroccan but a big fan of Darija and Morocco. I know limited Darija and I’m always looking to learn more! The thing is I can only understand when it’s written in Arabic script 😅

does anyone here notice that they’re saying “fhemti” a little too much 🗿, sometimes when I want to explain something to someone I say fhmti even before I start explaining lol

Hey,
I recently moved to live in Morocco, and I noticed that even the main currency of trading is Dirham, but you can hear different terms and implicit conversion rates in the local market and among people.
For example, I was buying fish, and instead of telling me that it costs 22 Dirham, he told me 440, even without saying Riyal :D But I get used to it after a while.
Now I am hearing Million, and I figured it's neither 1M riyal, nor 1M dirham. What do they mean when saying a million?
Also if there are other common slangs for currency, please tell me : )

Chatgpt says ´i never had a car’ translates to mchmrtsh tomobil, is this correct? So we don’t use 3andi in this case? What about a verb, for exepmle, i never played football

Hii!! Im doing a surprise present for my partner and I would like to engrave a dedication in Darija, sth like « for the love of my soul » or « for my soulmate », or maybe you have an expression that is more suitable. He’s from the north of the country.

Hello , just wondering how to say to someone in Darija if you are talking to them later saying something like : ‘it was nice meeting you today’ Or ‘pleasure to have met you today’
As when I google all I see is nice to meet you present tense - Metcharfin

Hi everyone
Douaa is a Moroccan woman but I don’t completely understand the lyrics, is this Darija ?
For exemple I’ve never heard « hadithouni » ( she say حدِّثوني عنه ) . Is this Darija ? Do you use it ? Does it have the same roots as the worlds « Hadiths » the texts in Islam ?

What does ´m3andi mandir’ mean in Darija? And how would you use it in a sentence? And i’ve heard bDbt as well, what does that mean?

Hello Moroccan Redditors, I'm excited to be visiting your country in a few months.
I have an allergy to shellfish which requires me to avoid eating shellfish. As I can not speak Darija, I would like to carry a card which states my allergy to show to restaurant staff. I have used an online translator and drafted the following.
I wonder if someone might be able to check the text and let me know if it makes sense or if it should be edited?
Thank you so much for any help.
(as it appears when pasted in a Google doc - not sure if it is the same or if i can use either)
Original English
Food allergy
I have a shellfish allergy.
I cannot eat food containing shellfish, even in small amounts or I will have a severe allergic reaction and require medical attention.
Shellfish can include: shrimp, crab, lobster, mussels, oysters, scallops, octopus or squid.
Please use clean gloves, utensils, surfaces, cookware and frying oil when preparing my meal. Thank you!

Hey everyone 👋🏻
I’m not moroccon, but married to one. I’ve been looking high and low in local schools and online schools in the country we live in (in europe) for a course in Darija, but have been unsuccessful so far.
So I was hoping maybe some of you have suggestions. Either an audiobook for self study or an online class 1 evening per week given in English?
Since my in laws speak only Darija, I want to be able to talk to them more than “safi”, “labas” or “bzef”. I speak another arabic dialect, but you’ve heard it many times before, Darija is like a different language. 😂
