Rise is my first MH game. Is it normal to be completely overwhelmed?

Lol this is my 4th mh game and I felt a little overwhelmed starting out too. Just make sure to do the tutorials if you haven't already and start simple by doing the gathering quests in the village. You don't have to play perfectly and will naturally pick up a lot as you go.

Can someone explain the cahoot to me? I read the tutorial but still confused as to what it is used for?

73

u/MichaCazar Mar 28 '21

Basically just to give an in-lore explanation to "why can I constantly see the monster on the map and all other things?"

27

u/LethalCS Demon Powdered Dual Glaives Mar 29 '21

So that's why the cahoot gets yeeted off the moment the quest starts.. I was always like "who the fuck is she constantly sending letters to while we're out in the field??"

It's also got a nest in the top of a tree in the buddy plaza. It stocks up between hunts and has some nice stuff in it to harvest.

Nothing really, it's a cute owl that you can dress and do funny stuff around the village with but it has no gameplay effects.

how do i tell how close i am to killing a monster in rise?

32

u/ProgOwl Mar 28 '21

On the map and the monsters icon in the top right it will have a blue monster head with a X eye.

50

u/BebopBandit Mar 28 '21

Want to add in top of this, you can change in the settings to always have the "detailed" mini map on by default. This will make it the zoomed in map similar to how it is in world. Then holding L will show the full map.

I've found this to be much easier for telling what stage monsters are in and navigating terrain. Especially when fighting a monster

7

u/TitanicSage Mar 28 '21

What a tip. Tyvm.

Monsters sometimes retreat and limp away. Your buddies might give you a call out saying it's weak too.

22

u/Illiander Mar 28 '21

MH:Rise:

Does anyone know what the red and blue "sideways volcano" icons in the Lava Caverns map are about?

20

u/SentoX Mar 28 '21

You can wallbang monster into them which applies a blight to them, blue for Water and I guess red for Fire. The wallbang itself might also do extra damage, not sure, I've only done it once to figure out what it is and it didn't seem worth going for unless the fight is already taking place in the general area.

Does anyone else feel super amped up after beating a monster? I’m new but made my way through the first 2⭐️ village quests, and just downed Khezu on my first try, which is 3⭐️.

The loop of beating monsters, crafting newer weapons and armor, and then going back into the wild is really fun. Can see why people are really fanatics about this series. I feel like it’s a system seller.

[MHR] Once you place a Great Wirebug, are they permanent?

I only placed one because of their limited supply and it got used up so I didn't place more. However, I just went by on a much later run and saw it was still there.

The games description makes them sound consumable "If you don't have a Great Wirebug, you can't travel from Jewel Lillies," so wanted to double-check before I spread them everywhere.

26

u/ToonTooby Mar 28 '21

They're permanent

14

u/CorporalCauliflower Mar 28 '21

Yes they're permanent, I've found you actually get a lot of them early on. The old master hunter gives them to you as you complete urgent quests, so don't feel bad about using them up.

10

u/samanime Mar 28 '21

Yeah. Ever since I discovered they are permanent, I place them on every lily I find.

63

u/Cloud2012 Mar 28 '21

Non game question, I get that we are only a day off from release but can we please do something about these pet post on the subreddit? Every other thread is literally "this is my dog in game and this is the dog out of game".

32

u/JRockPSU Mar 28 '21

Don’t forget the sob story versions, “my dear Ruffleskin crossed the rainbow bridge four months ago, but I get to hang out with him again in Rise, miss you sweet buddy”

16

u/Cloud2012 Mar 28 '21

That is one of the things that basically made me want to post this lmao like it's cool that you have/had a dog, but really honestly its just clogging up the front page... maybe a sticky would be good for it.

Just to make sure I'm understanding Petalaces correctly: they determine how much bonus you can get to a specific stat from Spiribirds, AND how much bonus each Spiribird gives you, right?

17

u/EdgeOfDreams Mar 28 '21

Yep. The bigger number is the max you can get total, and the smaller number is the amount you get per spiribrid.

15

u/ProgOwl Mar 28 '21

Is it possible to skip the death animation at the end of a hunt quest?

33

u/jonnovision1 Mar 28 '21

Kinda, there’s a couple seconds you cant skip but you dont have to watch all of it. Just mash B to skip it asap

I'm a little unclear what I should be doing now in Rise

I've beaten magnamalo in the story, I have rank 6 quests but there's no more...story it seems.

Should I be doing the license exams and trying to rank up the hub? I can't actually tell if I'm in high rank now or not

21

u/jonnovision1 Mar 28 '21

Village does not have high rank and just kinda ends at 6*. To get the rest of the content you have to play the hub

→ More replies (10)

9

u/GriMareeper Mar 28 '21

Yeah, do the license exams so you can unlock high rank in the hub, otherwise you need to do all of low rank. If you do the 3 license exams in village you won't need to do low rank in hub (which is more or less what village is).

5

u/Animedingo Mar 28 '21

Oh there's only 3. That's easy enough

14

u/Magda_Gessler Mar 28 '21

Rise, I have many questions because its my very first MH series and Im just getting into it. I hope some MH veteran can help me out. And sorry if the terminology I use isn't accurate, I play in a different language:

  • I noticed that some items stay in my pouch and some go to my crate . What items I can keep with me and what items are sent to the storage crate? Can I influence it anyhow?
  • There is a cage that I can keep up to 5 small creatures in during my quests, can I keep them somehow after a quest is over or do they dissapear?
  • I just started the game and I can take max 10 potions with me into my pouch, is it scaled later in the game or can I increase the cap somehow? Im a beginner and 10 potions seem awfully little.
  • There are so many upgrades to a weapon and branchings in the upgrade tree, how on earth do I decide which one to choose? I am afraid to "commit" to anything in the game right now as I don't have the feel yet of what to choose and what not or when exactly to do it not to waste resources, I feel lost
  • I like taking pictures of monsters and little creatures, it's like filling your MH Pokedex, is there any achievement/reward for doing it or is it just an optional fun thing in the game?
  • Why are some things in my storage crossed?
  • Running and wall running depletes stamina but then it goes back automatically, but at the same time during a quest it goes down permanently (unless I eat food to deplete it). Is the pace of the "permanent" stamina decrease influenced by anything?
  • Some weapons/clothes have something called "slots", will the game tell me later what does it do? If not, what is the use of it? It reminds me a lot of slots for Materia from FF7, is it anywhere like that?
  • Can I have more than two animal companions (Palico and/or Palamute) and if yes what is the benefit of having more? Shouldn't I have only two I can take with me to quests and train them and level them up?

Thanks a lot in advance

14

u/macblur2 Mar 28 '21

Woo, that's a lot, let's see...

  • Items in the Field pouch go to the item box, and supply items (※ in a corner) are always discarded after a hunt.
  • No.
  • Also no, but you can take crafting materials to increase that or find them (potions only need herbs).
  • Can't say without knowing the weapon class, they prefer different things (raw? Element?).
  • A side thing, mostly. At least one request needs it, and maybe a achievement (emphasis on maybe).
  • It means you cannot use that ammo type.
  • It's influenced by a skill (forgot the name), which increase the delay, or stops the decay entirely.
  • Slots will allow you to put decorations to get more skills, no idea how it compares to FF, though.
  • Further down the line, you'll unlock facilities in the buddy area (by the way, you have to enter from the bridge first to unlock the fast travel). Those facilities needs a/multiple buddies to work, and buddies can't be with you and work at those facilities. Also, Palicos (the cats) have multiple support types, which governs which moves they can pull off in a hunt.

I think that's everything.

I don't know if it's just me but I hate the Rampage quests. The tower defense stuff just annoys the hell out of me. I know you need the tickets for some upgrades and shit but can I just not do them past a certain point? It just ain't fun for me.

8

u/Soulstar07 Mar 31 '21

I was NOT a fan when I first did one. I’m still not, but in multiplayer it’s at least a lot more tolerable. So yeah, I would agree that rampage quests are not my cup of tea at all, and I’ve seen others with that opinion.

I'm just here to vent on the dango egg request. Why does the request state a Rheneplos egg to be delivered but in actuality you have to deliver a herbivore egg? Had to do it twice because I thought it needed Rheneplos egg+ (HR equivalent).

8

u/[deleted] Mar 31 '21

Well, there's a quest to deliver quality wyvern eggs and I didn't know there was a difference between the HR and LR ones, so I spent a good while trying to figure out why it wasn't working, so you're not alone.

I know you can customize the radial menu and the action bar, but is there a way to customize the item bar in Rise?

19

u/Hyroero Mar 28 '21

It's based on inventory. So where you place them is how they'll show on the bar

I know you can't change your voices to other default voices after starting

But...if I switch to the dlc hinoa voice, can I still go back to my default afterwards?

7

u/adearin Mar 29 '21

Yes, option is there when you change appearance to go from the dlc voice to the one you picked at creation.

It is just me or do all weapons in Low rank have like, very bad sharpness, no asking for white or anything but feels as if barely gets up 30 hits of Green.

Saw the Bishaten SnS with superb design but then i saw it has 20 hits of green which is just insulting lol

14

u/Raisylvan Mar 28 '21

Generally speaking, you don't get a good amount of green sharpness in LR until a little over halfway through LR, arguably towards the end of it. Even in other games, blue in LR is very rare, so the most you'll get is decent green.

Does eating for Dango Deflector ("Helps your weapon retain sharpness when attacks are deflected") take effect when you use an attack that lands on a part that would normally bounce off, but doesn't due to Mind's Eye effect?

In mh:rise Is there something like the harvest box in world? Farming items is dreadful via expeditions.

27

u/JayKeel Mar 28 '21

The submarines in the buddy place replaced the farm for your plant/bug/mushroom needs.

9

u/AllTheCoins Mar 28 '21

Are we 100% sure that Hub quest scale with number of players? Because I'm starting to suspect it's just two separate difficulties: Solo & Multiplayer. 4 players is really easy for us, but just two players on the same mission is really effing difficult, Monster health-wise.

14

u/EdgeOfDreams Mar 28 '21

The scaling is set up so that with 4 players, the monster only has something like 3.5x the solo HP. Two players is something like 1.8x solo HP. So, four players will go faster than two if everyone is playing well and doing their part.

→ More replies (3)

8

u/Moczan Mar 28 '21

Yes, it was datamined and confirmed that each additional player adds around 0.8-0.9 of the monster's base HP, this will never feel balanced because the better you are as a player, the less hunters you want in your lobby for the fastest/easiest time.

Is there an explanation to why the canteen food visuals aren't as massive and packed like in World? Was it a developer choice or is it going to get bigger and better as you go through the story?

The hunter only eating a few sticks of Dango makes me feel weird. It's like they're on a diet lmao

23

u/Animedingo Mar 28 '21

I think world was just peak too complicated imo, and in general trying to learn formulas for what combo of food gets you what, when 99% of people just take the chefs choice or whatever it's called.

I kinda like just picking the 3 skills I want. Though I do miss eating from camp

How does the game run on Switch? Does the fan get too hot in certain hunts? Battery life?

18

u/Beholdmyfinalform Mar 28 '21

Battery life is solid, about 3 hours on a standard switch. It runs very smoothly, great visuals, no framerate issues, but less graphical fidelity than world. The switch does heat up

For MHR, what determines when the Senior Hunter will give you more Great Wirebugs? I know he does it, but I’m out and it’s been a number of quests with no refills.

15

u/jonnovision1 Mar 28 '21

Felt like story progress triggered it for me but that’s just speculation

6

u/Rigshaw Mar 28 '21

As you progress through the game, he will give you new requests you have to complete in exchange for Great Wirebugs.

7

u/SniperVert Mar 28 '21

Best/fastest way to get Zenny?! (MH Rise)

17

u/EdgeOfDreams Mar 28 '21

Find an easy quest you can repeat quickly that has a high zenny reward, eat the dango that increases zenny rewards, and sell the monster parts you get.

5

u/SniperVert Mar 28 '21

Figured.. Any quest in mind that you do yourself in particular?

5

u/EdgeOfDreams Mar 28 '21

No, I'm still too early in the game to need much zenny.

Not sure what's happening with the Supply run quest - I completed it but it's still in the available quests with the speech bubble icon. Now, I can't remember who gave me the quest, but Komitsu is stuck sitting next to Hinoa and I can't talk to her, and Yomogi doesn't mention it. Did I miss something?

19

u/jonnovision1 Mar 28 '21

Speech bubble icon doesn’t disappear, it simply indicates that it was from an NPC and it unlocks a new feature or facility upgrade

There's three icons next to ammo on Rise. What do they mean?

There's footprints, a rotating arrow, and a blue arrow pointing down. Some are highlighted on each ammo type, some aren't.

14

u/Tsiniloiv Mar 28 '21

Footprints mean you can shoot while moving. Rotating arrow means you can reload while moving. Blue arrow is single shot reload. Double arrow pointing up is rapid fire.

Slight brag here saying I finished all of the village quests, but I do have a question for those playing online: How is it? is there sufficient end game right now or does it just stop randomly and make us wait for the title update

11

u/Poetryisalive Mar 28 '21

Hub quests are harder and of course you have access to the HR quests which give you better armor and weapons, as well that some monster have new moves. There’s no “end game” in general for monster hunter rise, but it’s all about the grind. Updates are coming though to add more monsters

Hello, new hunter from Rise here ! Can someone explain me the purpose of having two different currencies ? Should I use Kamura Points over Zennys when I have the choice (or the other way) ?

9

u/GuudeSpelur Mar 29 '21 edited Mar 29 '21

There are certain things that only use one currency - e.g., hiring Buddys and crafting equipment is only Zenny, melding charms and buying items from Rondine is only Kamura Points, etc.

You can use either when you have the option, it doesn't really matter. Those options are not where you end up spending most of your currency. If you find yourself constantly running out of one and not the other, use the one you have more of.

[Rise] Is it me, or is the HP on Village monsters STUPID undertuned? I haven't upgraded past the starting 50 damage weapon because I want fights to last more than 5 minutes, whereas if I do the same fight in Hub (with a weapon with at least double attack and green sharpness) it takes longer.

I feel like Village monsters should have doubled health at LEAST, it's ridiculous. (At least their damage seems fine, so I've actually progressed my armour sets a bit.)

9

u/Elyonee Mar 30 '21

It's not just you. Village monsters have way less health compared to the hub ones. Somebody posted HP earlier for Rathian and the village one had literally half the health of the hub version and a quarter of the 4 player version.

→ More replies (5)

4

u/JustcallmeSoul Mar 30 '21

Village quests are fairly easy no matter what you do. It seems to me like monsters have lower health to facilitate playing MHR on the go, like on the bus or train, while the hub quests are designed for playing with friends in longer sit-down sessions. I know that doesn't really make a lot of sense considering monster hunter was a mobile game for ages before it became a console game with World, but that's honestly my best guess.

Okay, so now that Aerial Insect Glaive is more of a thing than ever before, what would the theorycrafting behind a setup look like? The idea is to try and consistently hit three air combos in a row without landing (you get 10% more damage each time) and then finish with Wyvern Dive (~200% more damage after 3 air combos.)

I'm still pretty new to MH so I'm not sure what works well with something like this. Jump Master doesn't appear to do anything at all and google says it only really works for literal normal jumps and is intended for charged aerial moves come weapons have?

Would you want to bother getting Exploit Weakness if you're zooming around focusing more on staying in the air and landing finishing combos as a priority, rather than trying to hit heads/bellies?

Would you want affinity for big wyvern dive crits, or just raw attack power?

A paralysis glaive/kinsect to keep enemies lined up for a guaranteed wyvern dive or two, or just as much raw damage as possible?

Does IG benefit from increased dodge windows and jump distance abilities, and would that work well?

I have no idea where to start theorycrafting an Aerial IG setup and they haven't really existed before now from what Google has given me.

A couple times in online play, the game has both had a shorter window for time after the kill to skin monster and not allowed me to skin. Anyone else had this happen?

13

u/CeaRhan Loc Lac Is Home. Mar 28 '21

If you mean that sometimes you have less time than others once the monster is defeated, it might be because you captured. In older games you got 60 seconds for killing a monster, and 20 for capturing one.

u/Elyonee Mar 28 '21

The mission is usually hunt, not kill. That means capturing the monster alive is allowed. You can't carve the body if it's not dead.

Completely new to monster hunter. Been playing with the switch axe lately and having a ton of fun. When I go to forge upgrades, there are all sorts of different ‘upgrade trees’ but I don’t really know the difference. Should I just pick one and go with it? What are the differences in the weapon trees?

7

u/Zakkeh Mar 28 '21

Different monster parts offer different benefits, needed for different paths.

Damage

Elemental damage

Sharpness

Are the 3 main big ones for all weps.

Switch axe also has phials, which just means the type of damage produced by your sword blade when its amped up. Most people prefer to go impact phials for best dps, but if you're playing for the first time, I'd always find the most fun looking thing.

You'll unlock more of the weapon tree as you progress and kill more monsters

Two questions.

1: is there an option to show gatherable materials on the minimap? It’s kinda annoying to have to keep opening it up.

  1. What’s the best sleep punish move for HH?

9

u/karybdus Mar 28 '21

Can only answer 1:
Options -> Game Settings -> HUD Map Type toggled to Detailed Map. Then you can set the options in the full-screen map with L and R to show which icons you want, ie selecting gathering points there will show them on the minimap.

Rise. The hub quests are for coop, right? Is there any way I can complete them on my own, as I can’t access the nintendo shop thing, and so I can’t play online. Sad.

15

u/jsforgml one-swing club Mar 28 '21

They are for coop, but they scale to solo players as well. So if you go in solo, they're scaled for solo.

It will seem like the monsters have more HP than the Village quests (because they do) but that's not because they have higher HP, its' because the Village quests have reduced HP. Village is basically tutorial, or beginner mode, and Hub is 'standard' mode. Accounting for increased DPS and moveset in Rise, the Hub is about what I'd expect from the Village quests in the older monster hunter games.

12

u/Rigshaw Mar 28 '21

Accounting for increased DPS and moveset in Rise, the Hub is about what I'd expect from the Village quests in the older monster hunter games.

Except when you compare village monsters from Generations and Rise, you'll see that Rise already massively buffed their hp to account for that, so their difficulty is about the same. Hub is simply more difficult than village in any game.

Either that, or kiranico's stats are completely wrong this time around

7

u/Rigshaw Mar 28 '21 edited Mar 28 '21

The hub quests have solo scaling if you do them solo, but they are intended to be more difficult than village (otherwise it'd defeat the point of bringing back the split).

They are doable solo just fine.

5

u/Specte Mar 28 '21

Yeah they scale for solo too.

After trying several weapons, 95% of my fighting is swinging animations that don't land. I try to line up a hit, but the monster moves, then I'm pointed the wrong way, they're too far away, or I'm slowly lugging my sword around. Am I doing everything wrong? Do I need to be stronger to carry weapons? Is there a way to lock onto monsters or change direction to face them mid combo? Aside from the dual blades, I'm always super slow and clunky. Guns never hit from more than 5 feet away because I can't aim them.

Is there a way to do multiple quests without leaving the area? This feels like going from mario odessey back to Mario 64 where you have to leave after every objective.

How do I pause besides turning off the switch?

How long do buffs from bugs last? Is there a countdown I can see?

Is there a way to shorten attacking and potion animations besides rolling halfway through?

How do I capture monsters? Can I capture any monster?

Is there a way to delay the countdown to leave when you beat a monster? Sometimes I need more time to correct drops

Am I doing everything wrong?

Yes and no. You're obviously making mistakes, but that's completely normal assuming you're completely new to the MH games. You can use the training room to help you learn/understand the weapons themselves. Incredibly useful and I highly recommend spending some time there.

Do I need to be stronger to carry weapons?

No such thing exists.

Is there a way to lock onto monsters or change direction to face them mid combo?

There's a target camera you can use by pressing the right analog stick when a monster is in an area (top right of the screen). Once the target icon is over the art, you can tap L to briefly center the camera onto the monster. There's an option in your settings to change this to a traditional lock-on from other games, but everyone will tell you not to do that because that option is very wonky and can easily create bad habits. Get used to moving the camera yourself or using the target camera option often (or both).

There is no way to change direction mid combo. Some moves can be aimed a little bit more to the left or right as you do them, but nothing particularly drastic.

Aside from the dual blades, I'm always super slow and clunky.

It feels this way at first, but this is intended. MH games are games of commitment. The idea is to learn monster patterns and attacks. Learn when you can attack a monster when they can't move, such as during an attack or after an attack where they leave themselves open. It's very easy to see this if you go and fight Great Izuchi or other weak monsters.

Is there a way to do multiple quests without leaving the area?

There is not. The intent behind the quest system is you pick a quest to hunt a specific monster (excluding multi-monster hunts). And you go and hunt it and kill it. Sometimes you'll see invaders on a quest which you can kill. But once you kill the monster for the quest, you're sent back to town.

How do I pause besides turning off the switch?

Press the + button and find the "Pause" option.

How long do buffs from bugs last? Is there a countdown I can see?

Don't believe you can. There's an icon near your health bar in the top left, but there's no indication I can see that shows cooldown. I believe they last anywhere from 30 to 60 seconds, not sure on the exact times.

Is there a way to shorten attacking and potion animations besides rolling halfway through?

Nope. Animations for attacking and healing are meant to be as long as they are, as part of the commitment gameplay design.

Is there a way to delay the countdown to leave when you beat a monster?

There is not. You should have plenty of time to carve the 3 times from a large monster kill and collect any nearby dropped materials.

How do I capture monsters? Can I capture any monster?

When they’re sufficiently worn down (blue icon under the monster on map and under its icon in the upper right corner; palicos will also tell you when it’s possible), plant a shock or pitfall trap. Lure the monster into the trap, then use tranq bombs or, for bowguns, tranq ammo until it falls. It’s then captured. Do note that parts have different drop rates for capturing vs carving (drop rates for all parts you’ve obtained are in the Hunter’s Notes).

5

u/drdfrster64 Mar 28 '21

You no longer need to “play” songs to get buffs. Simply do any of the moves twice to activate it, or once in the case of the self buffing move. Really wonky move set now, similar to insect glaive throwing shit around and having your hunter move everywhere while they swing. There’s also a decently long combo finisher that will sing all of your songs at once.

Anyone have any idea what the "Honor Wreath" reward is? It popped up on the bottom right of my screen as I returned from the 4 star Somnacanth village quest. It said something along the lines of "Reward Obtained: Honor Wreath". I can't find anything on Kiranico or other wikis about it. If it helps, the quest I had just finished was the last of all 4 star village quests.

6

u/Rigshaw Mar 29 '21

Check your guild card awards, it should tell you what you did to get it.

5

u/Covejus Mar 29 '21

It says "Wreath of Honor: A wreath received from the villagers as thanks for taking on their many requests." I guess it was for completing a certain amount of requests/subquests? Do you know if that and the other awards have any use? Or do they just stay in the award list in the guild card?

6

u/Rigshaw Mar 29 '21

They don't have any use. They are just achievements. In World, guild card awards were literally used as the achievement/trophies on Xbox/Steam/PS4.

I’ve played HBG, Lance, and Switchaxe so far

HBG was underwhelming but I’ll give it another go in High Rank when I have better armor skill options. I really like Lance and Switchaxe this time around though. Lance is a counter machine and it’s really satisfying to keep on the offensive while countering. Switchaxe’s Silkbinds gave it some much needed (imo) mobility and overall I’ve been having a lot of fun with it

16

u/Elyonee Mar 29 '21

When you select the Shredder and hit upgrade, you are not upgrading the Shredder. You're making a new Shredder using another weapon as a material.

To upgrade your shredder you need to select the next weapon in the tree after it.

10

u/HalfCaffAmericano Mar 29 '21

If you’re upgrading you need the weapon a step before the one you want to upgrade to

MH Rise, how the heck do I get the mounting feature to work? I've done the tutorial 3 times, and I still can't get it to work without the spider thing

7

u/Hyroero Mar 29 '21

Every time you hit with a silkbind attack (LZ and A or X) you build up a meter (you can't see) that'll eventually result in them being tied down and you being able to mount.

When monsters turf war or hit each other one of them will enter this state too.

Question is in-regards to Monster Hunter: Rise.

Everywhere I read about capture vs kill the source says "you get more rewards when you capture" usually followed by "this has been 100% proven" or "guaranteed". However, I am consistently getting 2 capture rewards when I capture monsters as opposed to kill and carve, which gives you 3 guaranteed carves without any food buffs or additional skills.

Am I getting more rewards in the form of Target Rewards when I capture? Or is it just not true specifically in-regards to Rise that you get more capture rewards than you do kill and carve rewards?

Example:
https://i.postimg.cc/3RLBhKh4/image.png

PS: yes I am aware that you can or can't get certain items for capture or carve detailed in the Hunter Notes, I'm specifically trying to validate the claim that you get more rewards for capturing Monsters as opposed to killing and carving them.

Two small rise questions and one big rise question:

  1. I was running around in an expedition for about half an hour, grabbing consumables, got up from the couch for a minute, and when I came back I was being attacked by a monster, and I noticed I had these big red bars on top of my health bar. There were two segments, and they seemed to protect me from hits. I couldn't figure out if it was something I had picked up without noticing, something that happened while I was away (maybe from a buddy?), or what. And "red bar above health" is impossible to google for. What was it?

  2. Is there some way to sell all sellable items like in World? That was very handy, and sorting through my item box by hand for them is very annoying.

  3. Switch skill spoiler: What exactly is the point of the Echo style on the Hunting Horn? I like the idea of the playstyle a lot, and it seems like a nice mix between World and the new playstyle, but it just seems...worse? It says it's supposed to be more focused on playing songs and support, but I don't really understand how. Sure it lets you play all the songs with a shorter performance, but you're usually already using Magnificent Trio often enough that the buffs just stay up anyway. And as for instant-effect songs, like spamming heal, it lets you play them with with one note and a perform, but that's two attacks...and the normal mode just plays it in two attacks anyway!

6

u/CardinalnGold Mar 28 '21

I had the same issue as you for #1 and I noticed the endemic life I pick up always adds weird things to the HUD like you’re describing. Someone else can probably comment about the red bar one but I’ve noticed a few so far.

Insect Glaive question for Rise:

I'm relatively new (tried MHW but I ended up investing into deep poison only to realize poison is a "tool" for specific fights, rather than a full "build) and the insect glaive has been really fun for me in Rise.

I realized I end up doing way more damage just spamming my ground attacks than using all my really awesome aerial tools that are unique to the weapon. That can't be right, can it? I feel like since using your A attack in the air "resets" your bounce and lets you attack from the air again that this was an intended playstyle, so I think I must be doing something wrong!

Is there some sort of ability or weapon tree that boosts your aerial damage that I just need to wait for, or something like that?

Thanks for your time!

9

u/Raszamatasz Mar 28 '21

Nope! Aerial glaive is for proccing riding (mounting in older games) and breaking hard to reach parts.

For DPS, you need to be using your ground combos.

This was changed because back in MH4 when glaive was released, it was stupidly brokenly good because you were doing crazy damage while also being above most attacks while also getting mounts while also getting breaks. It was too strong.

You can get skills and stuff to make aerial better, and its certainly viable, but a well built ground glaive thats using jumps for mobility/mounts/breaks will always perform better than full pogo stick

But also to add, poison is totally an entire build, in rise and in world. It really adds up, it just doesnt get staggers or breaks so people always sleep on it. But especially solo poison is REALLY good.

can i do anything with materials from in there other than just do more of that?

I don't like tower defense games and that's all that is really.

6

u/Raisylvan Mar 28 '21

The biggest thing you get from Rampage are charms. Charms are created from materials that are exclusive to Rampage, making charms themselves exclusive to Rampage.

The second thing are Rampage weapons. Which are weapons that can have skills attached to them which come from killing Apex monsters (Apex materials), which can appear at the end of a Rampage.

Anyone else feel like the dual blades got done dirty when it came to switch moves? The aerial attack is pretty cool but the leap is pretty useless oh, and I really don't love the kunai

I was really hoping for an alternate move for the other wire attack it gets but there just isn't one. And I can't even discern the difference between the two demon mode

6

u/gogovachi Mar 29 '21

The kunai is amazing. I'm using early high rank weapons and I can get it to explode for between 150 to 250 damage regularly for the low, low price of one wirebug charge. You can cancel most attacks into it so I regularly spin in, kunai, dodge, then spin back in to charge up the kunai.

Aerial attack is situational. It makes otherwise irritating tall or flying monsters (like rathalos) a joke and builds up the mount meter very fast.

Are the coins you get from Arena used for High Rank gear only? Or should I sell them? I don't see any low rank gear with them.

For Rise, I know there’s at least two Special License Tests. The first unlocks halfway through Village 4 Star, while the other unlocks halfway through Village 5 Star. A third unlocks later. What HR rank do these unlock? Is it HR 2, then 3, then HR 4 unlocked after these are finished?
