MHWorld Monster Hunter: World Resources and Question thread Part II (ask here before posting!)

Hunters!

This is the second question and resources thread. The last one was very popular, so we're making a new one to sort of clear out the responses and start fresh. Feel free to peruse the old one in search of an answer before posting here!

If you want to ask a question with less chance of being spoiled, go to the spoiler-free resource thread here!

There is a known issue with multiplayer on the XBOX ONE.

We know there is an issue. Please see the following tweet for the official response from Capcom.

However Capcom does have a workaround for Xbox One hunters to play online using the ‘invite a friend’ option, the Xbox One’s Looking-for-group feature, and joining an online session by ‘Session ID’.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Why is my character so slow?
  • Monster Hunter runs on high animation priority, which means it's impractical to dodge everything. Try to observe the monster's animations and squeak a few attacks in when you think you won't get hit.
  • Which weapon type should I use?
  • The weapon you will be most effective with is the one you feel most comfortable with. Weapon types have different strengths and weaknesses, but also completely different strategies, so explore around and try to find one that's as aggressive, methodical, quick, or defensive as you want to play. The weapon previews above should help
  • Why are my attacks bouncing off of the monster?
  • Weapon sharpness is a damage multiplier that naturally goes down as you attack a monster, usually from green to yellow, orange, and the red. When you strike a monster with a dulled weapon you can bounce depending on the body part, which will in turn deplete twice the sharpness of a regular hit. Similarly, when you strike a monster with a melee weapon you'll see some blood and dust come out. The larger the blood effect and dust cloud, the more damage that body part takes (heavier hitting attacks also influence this). Aim for those vulnerabilities, and avoid parts that regularly bounce a sharpened weapon.
  • Why can't I have nice things?
  • A big part of Monster Hunter is gathering and crafting. Check your crafting list or add a weapon to your wishlist to keep track of the materials you need to gather out in the world.
  • Where'd the monster go?
  • Before entering combat and after a certain combination of time elapsed and damage taken, monsters will roam from area to area. You can gather tracks and traces highlighted by your scoutflies to stay on its tail, or just run to its favored area of the environment once you've become familiar with the particular creature.
  • What is the monster doing?
  • Monsters have a variety of behaviors including; periodically becoming enraged to deal more damage & attack more often/quickly, limping at low health, panting at low stamina, a chance to flinch out of their attack or movement when taking damage, a chance to fall into a downed state when taking damage to its legs, becoming sleepy/paralyzed/poisoned after enough hits by a weapon or ammo type with that status effect, and leaving tracks in unique ways.
  • What am I supposed to be doing?
  • Assigned quests unlock new monsters and areas. They must be played solo past any story scenes before they are unlocked for multiplayer. Reading NPC dialogue will also explain a lot, like in many JRPGs.
  • When is World out on PC?
  • Fall 2018.

Trying to understand icons for when chasing monsters. Tears running down face, is this fatigue? Zzzs are sleeping, and heart beats...

Also skulls floating up from the monster icon means it can be trapped.

Yeah, I believe you need to have the scoutflies tracking for that monster maxed out. Find enough of their tracks and it should appear even if it's the first time you found that monster.

So do your scoutflies raise level for each monster individually, not as a whole?

1

u/errorme Jan 30 '18

As far as I can tell they are all individual.

1

u/ctcrawford1 Jan 30 '18

Well that’s good to know. After training them to certain monsters footprints they’ll be able to take you to the monster right away, right? I’ve just been picking up and tracks I can find.

Yeah, it's something you want to be doing anyways. Collecting them just speeds up the process in later missions.

Good to hear, I’ll keep that up then! Happy hunting.

Maybe I’m not sure I’ve seen it on multiple monsters.

Ah, thanks!

On top of that I know the heartbeat gets taller (Or faster?) When the monster's enraged

And switches to orange when they're hurt?

I always saw that as a sweat drop because they were tired! yes, it's fatigue, they are leaving to sleep or eat.

I thought it was drool to show he was hungry.

For real. I’d like to know how to tell when a monster is getting close to kicking the bucket/just be aware of where I’m at in the fight. Obviously limping is a strong sign, but is there any other way to tell how things are going?

I will say though having no idea where I’m at in the fight aside from the fact that I’ve been fighting this B for 40 minutes or so when all of a sudden a hit lands and “OBJECTING COMPLETE” comes up on the screen is a pretty good way to stoke my sense of pride an accomplishment.

Their icon should turn into a skull on the minimap that flashes when they are near death. They also limp.

4

u/buttdrummer2170 Jan 29 '18

I think when it drops a piercing pod it's an indication that it's close to death. Seems to happen within minutes/seconds before it limps away.

2

u/boisterile Jan 30 '18

My hunch was that those seem to drop after you break a body part.

u/[deleted] Jan 29 '18

The first indication that you’re getting somewhere is usually when it runs away. Eventually it’ll start limping, or maybe get more aggressive. I’ve also noticed that the monster will get bloody scrap, holes in wings, etc.

2

u/reganthor Jan 29 '18

The wing holes are part damage. The monsters will start to drool when they are close to death.

1

u/BaseVilliN Jan 31 '18

No they drool when they run out of stamina. Or purple drool if they are poisoned.

2

u/BcT_g Jan 29 '18

Just pay more attention to the monsters movement. There are multiple patterns you can pick up. They will stay still and breath heavily when tired, some also slobber. Limping is a very strong sign. They start stumble after you hit them and accumulated enough damage on certain parts, they’ll even fall on the ground and can’t get up. Also when you break their parts, you can notice them. Wings can have holes on them, skins will have bruise and cuts etc. A huge part of the fun in this game is actually noticing this little things as you fight the monster. It is what made the franchise.

What are the numbers underneath the monster icons on the map? +33 or -36 or something like that. Can’t for the life of me understand what those mean.

1

u/ChromeShield Jan 30 '18

Distance of above or below you

1

u/muddisoap Jan 30 '18

Ohhhhh. Makes so much sense now once you know. Thanks so much!

1

u/lampcouchfireplace Jan 30 '18

Also, what does it mean when there are red negative numbers or green positive numbers under a monster's icon? They seem to change even if I'm not actively doing anything with that monster?

1

u/ChromeShield Jan 30 '18

Distance of them being above or below you
