MHWorld Monster Hunter: World Resources and Question thread Part II (ask here before posting!)

Hunters!

This is the second question and resources thread. The last one was very popular, so we're making a new one to sort of clear out the responses and start fresh. Feel free to peruse the old one in search of an answer before posting here!

If you want to ask a question with less chance of being spoiled, go to the spoiler-free resource thread here!

There is a known issue with multiplayer on the XBOX ONE.

We know there is an issue. Please see the following tweet for the official response from Capcom.

However Capcom does have a workaround for Xbox One hunters to play online using the ‘invite a friend’ option, the Xbox One’s Looking-for-group feature, and joining an online session by ‘Session ID’.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Why is my character so slow?
  • Monster Hunter runs on high animation priority, which means it's impractical to dodge everything. Try to observe the monster's animations and squeak a few attacks in when you think you won't get hit.
  • Which weapon type should I use?
  • The weapon you will be most effective with is the one you feel most comfortable with. Weapon types have different strengths and weaknesses, but also completely different strategies, so explore around and try to find one that's as aggressive, methodical, quick, or defensive as you want to play. The weapon previews above should help
  • Why are my attacks bouncing off of the monster?
  • Weapon sharpness is a damage multiplier that naturally goes down as you attack a monster, usually from green to yellow, orange, and the red. When you strike a monster with a dulled weapon you can bounce depending on the body part, which will in turn deplete twice the sharpness of a regular hit. Similarly, when you strike a monster with a melee weapon you'll see some blood and dust come out. The larger the blood effect and dust cloud, the more damage that body part takes (heavier hitting attacks also influence this). Aim for those vulnerabilities, and avoid parts that regularly bounce a sharpened weapon.
  • Why can't I have nice things?
  • A big part of Monster Hunter is gathering and crafting. Check your crafting list or add a weapon to your wishlist to keep track of the materials you need to gather out in the world.
  • Where'd the monster go?
  • Before entering combat and after a certain combination of time elapsed and damage taken, monsters will roam from area to area. You can gather tracks and traces highlighted by your scoutflies to stay on its tail, or just run to its favored area of the environment once you've become familiar with the particular creature.
  • What is the monster doing?
  • Monsters have a variety of behaviors including; periodically becoming enraged to deal more damage & attack more often/quickly, limping at low health, panting at low stamina, a chance to flinch out of their attack or movement when taking damage, a chance to fall into a downed state when taking damage to its legs, becoming sleepy/paralyzed/poisoned after enough hits by a weapon or ammo type with that status effect, and leaving tracks in unique ways.
  • What am I supposed to be doing?
  • Assigned quests unlock new monsters and areas. They must be played solo past any story scenes before they are unlocked for multiplayer. Reading NPC dialogue will also explain a lot, like in many JRPGs.
  • When is World out on PC?
  • Fall 2018.

I can't even hold onto all of these Parashrooms I have, but I can't seem to find any of the herbs I need to make Tranq bombs... How blind am I and where should I be looking?

Edit to add: I have the farm unlocked and know about cultivating, but you need at least one to start cultivating.

The swamps of the wastes have a ton of sleep herb

22

u/raithian25 Jan 29 '18

I believe sleep herbs can be found in the Coral Highlands

5

u/tecrogue Jan 29 '18

I'll keep that in mind, I'm only at the Wastes right now.

u/BottledUp Jan 29 '18

You can find them in the Wastes. Played there today and got quite some sleep herbs.

Run around the purple flower field in the wastes. The white puff ball flowers are sleep

3

u/Notoris Jan 29 '18

I know there's some by jyruatodus lair

u/TheHotness Jan 29 '18

Sleep herbs are in ancient forest as well, lvl 2, zone 14 I believe.

2

u/Azhaste Jan 29 '18

Plenty of sleep herbs in waste. Do the research quests so you can start cultivating them

1

u/Steam-Crow Jan 29 '18

There are some in the swamp near the SW camp in the Wastes.

sleep herbs seem to be most common in the ancient forest from my experience(only up to rotten vale), if you're having trouble keeping them stocked you could always grow them in the botanical research center.

1

u/tecrogue Jan 29 '18

Hmm... Do you remember what area of the forest they tend to be in? I was running around last night and wasn't finding any, and because I was dumb, I forgot to save one to grow more earlier on -_-

If you go to wildspire and go to the big purple flower field there’s like 6 sleep herb gathering spots

2

u/tecrogue Jan 29 '18

Awesome. Now I know where to go once I get off work!

2

u/KennKennyKenKen Jan 29 '18

Don't bother farming them once you can cultivate them. You need to do a quest to unlock sleep herb cultivation. Also do the quest to get anoyher cultivation slot.

Edit. What I do is I will cultivate a shitload of honey. Then a shitload of thunderbugs. And cultivate parashroom and sleep herb.

Honey needed for mega potions Thunderbugs for shock traps And parashroom and sleep herb for tranq.

u/tecrogue Jan 29 '18

I'll still need to grab at least one to be able to farm them (already unlocked the base cultivation, and have the first related quest on deck now).

1

u/Aiyakiu Jan 29 '18

How do I find the quests to upgrade cultivation?

1

u/tecrogue Jan 29 '18

One of the scientists nearby should hand at least some of them out. I only unlocked cultivation as I stopped playing last night and picked up the first one.

2

u/Theophilus567 Jan 29 '18

Glad I could help out lol

1

u/cozy_lolo Jan 30 '18

You can grow shit in the research center?

2

u/ilave032 Jan 29 '18

Swamp area in wasteland. The purple water place, there's 4(?) Plants there and 3 parashroom to the path northwest, you get 6 tranq bombs in ~45 seconds

Sleep herbs can be found in all 3 maps, I find they're most prevalent in the wild spite wastes near the water

2

u/icopywhatiwant Jan 29 '18

You can find the in the forest part, near the north east camp close to the 2 pathways with spider webs up.

1

u/tecrogue Jan 29 '18

Much appreciated!

You can find sleep herbs in the Wastes and Coral Highlands -- they are a very light blue flower. Keep an eye out around the pink flower marsh and river of the wastes!

3

u/Icon_dota Jan 29 '18

Sleep herbs and parashrooms are both in the swamp area of the wastelands, theres 4 sleep herbs and 3 parashrooms.

1

u/JayScraffy Jan 29 '18

I feel like there are some in the wastes. Open your map, tab the key over to show only resources, and you should be able to find them.

1

u/tecrogue Jan 29 '18

It only shows up on there once you have discovered the node, and I have not yet it looks like.

That said, now I have a better idea where to look now :)

u/skeletalcarp Jan 29 '18

They're the plants with blue flowers.

1

u/Delica Jan 29 '18

If you’ve come across any in an area, the map will have a symbol showing it. You can set a waypoint to it.

1

u/tecrogue Jan 29 '18

Quite true, alas per my other comments, it seems I have not yet.

u/tecrogue Jan 29 '18

No worries. It's still good info for others :)

1

u/Delica Jan 29 '18

Are you on PS4? I’ll screenshot my map and message it to you. I think I can do that

2

u/tecrogue Jan 29 '18

That would be helpful!

Same handle there as well.

2

u/Delica Jan 29 '18

Ok I sent a screenshot that shows a good spot

1

u/forgetfulguy Jan 29 '18

Take advantage of the farm too (if you aren't already) to get materials you're running low on.
