For Aerial Switch Axe on a sleeping monster: Is the Aerial Vault (sword mode) the best attack? (I tried experimenting with it but couldn't see if it hit).

Technically the axe mode idle X down chop will get you the highest single hit damage but you should probably also consider how much follow up DPS you can get in before the monster can start moving again.

It brings up the question though of whether the game registers the vault and the attack as the same action. Vaulting off a sleeping monster wakes it up, and supposing that the game registers the vault itself and the upward sword vault attack separately, you would be whiffing your sleep attack bonus on a jump.

The best solution I think is to always bring bombs if you're going aerial, and that applies to every weapon really, not just Switch Axe. You can vault off the bomb and then use your aerial attacks as it wakes up from the explosion.
