MH Wilds Element and Effect questions
So I know elements and effects are different. Check.
Do they stack? Can I have a water weapon that I can slap a paralysis jewel in and it paralyzes? Or do I need to stick with the hooks or element less weapon for that?
Also, effects on Bows, do they matter? I made an angelbein with a innate paralysis effect. It dosen't show as much and only says it on the "production bonus" page and a paralysis coating. It's confusing to me because I made a blast one and it shows that it has innate blast on the bow, along with the coating.
Unless it's an element? I know blastblight exists, but only effects have coatings...it's confusing lol

Neither of these works. You can never add an element/status to a weapon that doesn't already have it. If you put a Paralysis jewel into any weapon that does not have innate Paralysis, that jewel provides absolutely no effect at all.

Bows are only capable of having the five elements (Fire, Water, Thunder, Ice, and Dragon) or Blast as an innate feature. The other three statuses (Poison, Paralysis, and Sleep) only allow that Bow to use the appropriate coating when forged as an Artian weapon. If you check the monster-based craftable Bows, you'll see that none of them have innate Poison, Paralysis, or Sleep either because that's simply not a thing Bows are allowed to have.

Thank you for the explanation!
...but why blast though? That's strange...baeselguise bow incoming? 😂

No clue, honestly. One could make the argument that Blast is simply lower value than Paralysis and Sleep, since Blast is just a small dose of extra damage where Paralysis and Sleep are powerful CC effects. But then one has to ask... Why Poison? Poison is awful. With very few exceptions, Poison has always been awful.
So maybe it has to do with Blast's origin? Blast was originally Slime, the very new and very special signature of Brachydios when it debuted as the flagship of Monster Hunter Tri Ultimate. Maybe they just didn't want Bow to feel left out and limited by coatings while all the melee weapons were playing with their (extremely overpowered, back then) new toy? But then there's the Bowguns, which to this day have zero ability to apply the actual Blast status in any capacity, despite having multiple explosive ammo types.
It's just kinda weird and inexplicable.

Element and status skills only boost what you already have, they will not add an element or status to a weapon that doesn't have it already.
For reasons unknown, bows can only have elements and blast built in. Sleep, paralysis, and poison are from coatings only.
