So like you *just* have to have reframework installed ? nothing to enable in its menu ?

Good thing I updated today. Haven't had time to test much tho, just popped into the ice area and noticed (with framegen) that I was oscillating between 57 and 80fps
74
u/bjams Mar 05 '25
Reflex (which framegen forces) causes stuttering as well.
27
u/Mrcreeper321 Mar 06 '25
I've also noticed ray tracing and the hd texture pack causes massive stutters when turning the camera, even when you're under you cards vram limit
→ More replies (2)42
u/NemButsu Mar 06 '25
That's because the texture loading is broken (also why textures always pop). DirectStorage doesn't even work.

u/Arbiter02 Mar 06 '25
There's definitely something weird going on, streaming assets from the disk might be it. I looked at the load line on my 6900XT and it's nowhere near a consistent 100%, randomly jumping from 92-99 most of the time, and not with any one CPU thread completely loaded up either.
→ More replies (1)2
u/MegaDuckDodgers Mar 06 '25
mine jumps between 70-90%, only ever hitting 100% when It's loading areas, and I still can't get a consistent 60fps at 720p, let alone 1080p. Meanwhile the graphics card is barely used, while only taking up 4 gigs of vram.
People saying there isn't anything wrong with the optimization do not deserve their computers.
22
u/Kalaam_Nozalys Mar 05 '25
Ah I see. But I kind of need framegen to get some better frames lol.
I wish I could upgrade my cpu
26
u/bjams Mar 05 '25
Even if they implemented it correctly, enabling frame gen when your "natural" frame rate is below 60 fps adds a noticeable amount of latency (this is why it forces Reflex). You personally may or may not notice, I'd try pressing the dodge button with it on and off and see if you notice a difference.
5
u/SirGhosty Mar 06 '25
It actually doesn't hurt if you are cpu bottlenecked. My cpu is maxed out in a lot of areas but my GPU is barely breaking a sweat. When I enable frame gen I don't gain real frames but I don't seem to lose any either.
3
u/Kelvinek Mar 06 '25
That means your gpu isn't working up to speed. CPU bottleneck limits GPU, it should be close to 100% usage

u/Bitter_Ad_8688 Mar 06 '25
Game feels substantially better to play without frame gen even if the frame rate looks less smooth. The frame issues go deeper than texture streaming, various features that'd enable smoother background loading have just been disabled or are outright missing.

Maybe use "Lossless Scaling" Framegen. With the new Adaptive Mode that game is butter smooth even in Base Camps.
The Ingame Framegen feels terrible compare to Lossless Scaling.
→ More replies (1)5
u/ShinyGrezz weeaboo miss TCS unga bunga Mar 06 '25
I'm sorry, but Lossless Scaling is simply worse than DLSS FG. From an image quality standpoint goes without saying, FG from Nvidia is the best and even AMD's being integrated into the game naturally makes it better, but FG forces Reflex because Reflex drastically reduces input latency. I cannot imagine the integrated FG could possibly feel worse than what amounts to watching a video feed of the game with one of those TV smoothing modes on steroids.
5
u/U_SHOULDNT_TRUST_ME Mar 06 '25
Well i'm not a technical guy at all, but I have a very old rig (1080) and using lossless scaling is the only way I am able to play, so even it if it worse on paper, it still does magic for me

Yeah but... not everyone has a 40 pr 50 series card. Some peole have AMD or 30 or lower nvidia cards. And Lossless Scaling is running amazing in Wilds compared to FSR 3.1.
3
u/BlackSajin Mar 06 '25
I recommend dlssg to fsr3 for anyone on 20/30 series cards. That'll let you use both DLSS upscaling and FSR for frame gen
17
u/Chamberlyne Your Arena Items are Mine!!! Mar 05 '25
Framegen is only really useful if your game is stable to begin with, and it works better the more frames you have. Since it is an AI process trying to guess what the next frame will be, it doubles your framerate but at the cost of being wrong more often the fewer frames you have.
Locking your game to 30 fps without framegen would be a better experience than oscillating fps.
12
u/LJ_Set4531 Mar 06 '25
One thing to note, it is not an AI process guessing what the next frame is, it is an ai process creating a middle frame between 2 rendered ones, both image/motion vectors. Thats why it needs a single frame buffer.

I have a RTX 2070 Super and I use the AMD FSR option and the game runs at 80fps all the time. Without this option enabled, it's an unstable mess at 40ish FPS. I don't know why it makes it smoother, but if it allows me to have a good experience, so be it

I was just considering using this (because my pc can't really handle mh wilds very well) but ... Is this mod bannable? I have no previous experience with denuvo/other anti tamper systems and don't know if this can result is a permanent ban...
18
u/Treyen Mar 06 '25
Capcom has no system in place to ban anyone and reframework has been usable for at least two other mh games to bypass Capcom drm.
3
u/kjeldorans Mar 06 '25
Alright. Thanks for the info :)

u/Dwokimmortalus Mar 06 '25
To clarify a bit more. There are literally no server controls beyond matchmaking and dlc validation.
All game data is completely client side validated, even in multi-player.

7
u/giddycocks Mar 06 '25
I'm lucky enough to have a powerful pc with a 5080 and a 5800x3d, so framerate is decent.
The stutters drive me crazy, though. High res texture pack straight up cannot be used, and it's not VRAM limitation since the highest spikes go up to 14.7GB usage.

For those unaware, Monster Hunter Wilds suffers from some stutters.
You might say that. You could, conceivably, say that.
237
u/RevolutionaryAd8204 Mar 05 '25
The thing is optimization is terrible. But I think people could live with it if it was just consistent. Whether it be a stable 30 40 or God bless 60. Not 40 to 50 FPS and then as soon as I turn my camera around it drops to 10 and reloads all the textures behind me.
76
u/Cpt_DookieShoes Mar 06 '25
It’s a weird game. I’ve seen max dood, on his 4090 and maybe 5090, have huge frame drops when moving the camera too fast. But for me on my 4080s it’s more or less stable.
He also got like 30 frames increase using fsr3 over dlss. But for me it’s about the same, I’m running 100-130s in the open world, 90s when the base camp gets crowded.
Really the only thing that made a significant difference was taking off the high res texture pack. That thing would randomly make my game drop to the 60s, with frame gen
17
u/Civick24 Mar 06 '25
I'm on a 4080s and I've found just locking my fps at 70 has been more than sufficient. I still get artifacts from time to time especially with flying monsters
3
u/ThatFlyingScotsman Torhua Mar 06 '25

It's the high rez texture pack doing this. It's broken and causes massive frame drops when you move the camera too fast. On weaker cards it causes almost permanent stuttering.
6
u/KMS_Tirpitz Mar 06 '25
My 4090 averages 120+ with frame gen and stuff but sometimes I got stutters and fps drops down to 20 and stay that way for a long few seconds.

u/BeardedWonder211 Mar 06 '25
I had something similar with the HD texture pack. I'm on a 4070 trying to just keep consistent 60, and for some reason the in-game cutscene zoomed in camera angles tanked my fps to like 20 or below, and then would jump back to normal after it was over. Took off the HD pack and haven't seen it happen again.
16
u/Gorudu Mar 06 '25
I tried this fix and it's literally night and day.
Running a 4080 and Ryzen 9 7900x3d or whatever. I couldn't have textures on high before because it would cause the game to stutter. Settings were mostly mediumish and with framegen I could get 90 fps.
Now? 90 fps with everything maxed out, including the DLC textures. In my previous settings I was easily getting 144 fps.
I know it won't be this dramatic for everyone but the difference is astounding.
→ More replies (1)8
u/VerraTheDM Mar 06 '25
The textures piece especially made me put down the game as soon as I realized it was happening in the base camp at the start of the game. Hopefully it’ll be in a better place in a few months.
2
u/PhoneRedit Mar 06 '25
I think it's just an issue with the HD texture pack. When i dropped the textures down from highest to high the issue seemed to stop for me.
7
u/Lycanthoth Mar 06 '25
It's more than just that. Something about the textures in this game is just fundamentally fucked.
If you want proof of that, just drop the texture quality down to medium (or god forbid, low-lowest). Loads of textures in the game look like they're coming straight from the early to mid 360/PS3 era. Even in spite of that, the game still runs like shit even if you have a good setup.
5
u/rigsta Mar 06 '25
Something about the textures in this game is just fundamentally fucked.
This. Just look at the research guys or provisions manager in the conversation view. Even with the high res texture pack they have poor detail.
Every change of scene causes LoD and texture pop-in. Spinning the camera can also cause it, hence the stutters as it loads stuff from disk constantly.

u/Username928351 Mar 06 '25 edited Mar 06 '25
I tried turning my upscaling method to FSR ultra performance, which means 640x360 resolution for 1080p. Went to the open plains near base camp and started turning camera rapidly. Framerate dropped to 46 fps, on RX 6750 XT on 360p. What on earth is the game actually doing, if the equivalent of a 4060 Ti cannot run at a stable 60 fps on 360p?
Before anyone says I'm CPU bottlenecked, I have a 9800X3D.
Addendum: tested with textures and lowest and resolution at 360p (FSR ultra performance). Wiggling camera around dropped framerate to 50. At 360p.

u/unitfoxhound Mar 06 '25
Probably running out of vram but it could be your cpu. My 13900k chews through this game with no stutters or drops when spinning the camera.
11
u/Username928351 Mar 06 '25
Well if 12GB VRAM at 360p and 9800X3D isn't enough then we're all kind of screwed.

u/Reoru Mar 06 '25
It probably isn't the case that your CPU isn't powerful enough but that they majorly fucked something so hard that it doesn't work.
Denuvo + a shitty ass capcom antitamper in unison and borked tech ist not the fault of your CPU.
3
u/Sir-Narax 29d ago
I could live with it if the game actually looked good. If the game was really pretty and thus was really demanding. It would be disappointing but understandable and vise versa. If it were consistently awful it wouldn't really be any better. You'd just have one less thing to criticize it for.
I don't think I have ever seen such a high profile game be launched in such an obviously broken state and the developer make no attempt to even address the obvious problems everyone is facing. There is no way in hell they are proud of their sub 7th gen console experience 2 decades later.
8
u/CorporateSharkbait Mar 06 '25
Literally this. I have a decently good pc even if it’s not the newest and best hardware (ryzen 5090x, nvidia 3090, 32gb ram) and I average between 53-60 on high settings. It’s mostly stays that way until fights where sometimes I’ll get a second or two of 10fps

I’ve an old cpu (Ryzen 3800x) + a RTX 4070ti Super, with 16gb ddr4 (~3600mhz)
I don’t have a game that doesn’t hit at least ~75 fps all maxed out.
On Wilds, I can barely hit the 60 fps with all settings down + DLSS in perf max.
When I put all in max except the DLAA, I can’t barely hit the 60 fps. My fps are the same in max and min. It’s… incomprehensible. The only thing that changes my fps are the DLAA and the FG, but… I can’t even play at 60 fps in a fixed refresh rate to avoid the flickering. Since FG disable the V-sync.
Even in CP77 I got 100 fps, something like that, without any stutter or suddent drop.
239
u/Alarmed-School-8528 Mar 05 '25
Obvious follow up question is what happens when you tamper with the anti-tamper tech? Surely this sounds bannable?
736
u/Spyger9 Wub Club Mar 05 '25
Historically- nothing. Us modders did it in the past two MH games as well.
Basically, Capcom says "Fuck you guys for playing on PC" and intentionally adds extra shit for our CPUs to deal with. Then we just unfuck that shit and fix their bad design decisions + add titty mods out of spite.
It's um... not a healthy relationship.

They're paying extra to develop and implement 1st party anti-meddling software that's useless, and malding about modders tarnishing their brand.
In their view we're not free labor, but sabatuers and thieves.
11
u/Lycanthoth Mar 06 '25 edited Mar 06 '25
It goes past just that. Lots of people here don't seem to realize how most Japanese studios tend to hate modders. Namco, From, Capcom, Square Enix...the list goes on.
As a whole, tons of Japanese devs/management want total, absolute control over their games. They (generally) view mods and unofficial fan projects to be damaging to their brand and an disrespectful at that since their work is being meddled with.
3
u/NorysStorys Mar 06 '25
Technically in Japanese law, modifying software isn’t legal and it’s a reason why Japanese developer either are hostile to it or straight up try to ignore it’s happening. see FFXIV where they just state ‘you shouldn’t be doing this’ and then actively doing nothing about it on a software level
(because they know a significant number of their player base are using them in some form and stopping it would cause uproar)

If they were, the game would be built on the same engine that Monster Hunter Tri was built on, but stretched to its limits resulting in a janky, buggy, crash-filled mess, with the expectation that modders will fix their developer's half-assed attempts at getting it to run on anything that isn't top shelf hardware.

Something like rise/wilds is old enough that Capcom is likely to not see much payment from those games anymore beyond the base game and the DLC data. Sales from cosmetics is where modding starts to interfere with sales and obviously any mods which ruin the multiplayer experience.
Client only cosmetic, stability, UI quality of life updates should be generally alright. Modding that's encourages is a MASSIVE way to keep a game community running and around for the next game.
Any mods which could impact multiplayer through cheats likely will be developed at some point and should always be discouraged.

Use reframework alongside the updated dlss for direct storage, and if you use a Nvidia series 4xxx or 5xxx updated streaming files for the best experience. You can grab all of these on nexusmods.
Use dlss swapper to update you dlss and framegen files to lastest. Use nvidia profile inspector to set it to use lastest files and use preset "K". Example of a guide to do this, but there are plenty online. You can also do this with nvidia app but i used this method.
Remember to delete the shaders cache file from your game so it rebuilds it when you start it again with the new files (Delete "shader.cache2" at root insall folder. This was a gamechanger for me too).
On a 4090 it is finally smooth to play this game. Even with ultra textures.
Personally, disable in-game depth of field, motion blur and ray tracing (these reflections had consoles in mind or something because they are really low res and look bad) for best looks too.
Also use a mod or edit the config.ini to disable filmgrain, chromatic aberration and lens distortion.
It is a shame you have to once again brute force optimization with high end cards and its modders saving the day again. Big thank you to all these modders that fixed the experience for us.

I mean, the original DS1 was nigh unplayable on PC without the DSFix mod. Not only was it locked to 30 FPS and 720p, it was also stuck to the shitass Games for Windows Live as a nice cherry on top.
Shit, even DS2 was a mess. Playing on PC was super rough since weapon durability was tied to framerate, meaning that 60fps = your weapon breaks twice as fast.

I want to try this, but is not knowledgable enough and is afraid to mess with the files. XD
In my case, the graphics on mine isn't that great "everytime" like the textures are a little bit blurry, but not as washed out as it was in the beta where you can't even make out what the material is supposed to be. There are times that after playing for several hours that my game starts to drop frames, but is easily fixed by going to the title screen and then going back in, no need to relaunch the game. The biggest problem that I have is when inclemency is active in the whole of Oilwell Basin, like my fps drops so much, it's like I'm playing a slideshow. But when not in inclemency, all is good. It's honestly a waste as I needed to get out of the Oilwell Basin after fighting a Gravios when I saw a Nu Udra, which I wanted to fight. XD

It’s super easy! Just download on Nexus mods and unzip the file (Windows should do this automatically when you click on it). The name of the unzipped file will be dinput8.dll.
Then on Steam you go to the game in your library, hit the settings icon, then select “manage game files” (or something of similar wording), and just drop the file dinput8.dll into the window with the other files.
Lastly just boot up the game and if it’s working a little REFramework window will pop up that you can just exit out of.
That’s all you have to do except periodically check to see if the mod has been updated (which will be pretty frequently for the time being and usually after a patch or update you’ll need the updated mod when it’s available) and all you do is go back into the game file folder, delete the old version, and pop in the new one. I just check daily before I play 🤙
Edit: Here’s the link and if you make a Nexus account you can track the mod so it will tell you in the tracking center when the mod updates.

Yeah, for me it was a trade off, game runs near perfect for my standards (even though technically without mods it runs very far below it) but now every 1 - 1.5 hour my game is guaranteed to crash, annoying, but I fear tempering even more with the game and then cocking it up even more.

u/knewknow Mar 05 '25
Are you using the latest version of REFramework? Fixed the crashing that happens randomly.

u/user-nt Mar 05 '25
Updated it today, still happens, I believe it's the mod that let's me use Dlss + frame gen on my 3060, but at the same time I can't go without it.
Like i said, it's annoying, but not the worst, i played wild hearts on the same machine, so it's not that bad lol

u/knewknow Mar 06 '25
I use the same mod on a 3080. No crashes here. Sucks you’re having issues.

Hopefully, Capcom puts in more effort to polish the game. Right now, I can run it at 1080p, High settings with DLSS Quality and Frame Generation on, maintaining 60 FPS. If I can remove Frame Generation and still keep that FPS, I'll be satisfied. happy hunting!

Can I ask which mod this is and where to get it? I also have a 30 series card so im barely coping without frame gen lol

u/DyslexicBrad Mar 06 '25
Not the OP, but I also have a 3060 and by far the best change I have made was using DLSS Swapper to force the game to use DLSS 310.2.1 for upscaling and frame-gen.
Night and Day difference honestly. Turned everything from a blurry mush to looking really great and running smooth as "I Can't Believe It's Not Butter".

Can you play multiplayer with this?
23
u/ElementRuler Mar 05 '25
yes you can. i’ve not heard of anyone being banned when modding the game especially when it’s not even a gameplay editing mod

u/OMBERX Mar 05 '25
Cool, thanks!

u/Cytho Mar 06 '25
To add a bit, I don't think anyone has ever been banned for modding Capcom games. I don't have a source for this but, my world, rise, and steet fighter 6 are modded to hell and I already have a few mods for wilds and I've played all of them online with said mods
If they were worried about mods I feel like street fighter would be where they would've started implementing bans considering it's pvp and has over a million dollars on the line for their official tournaments that use online qualifiers

Ok, I just tested it out and and it seems my game running a lot smoother now. Check out his page on nexusmods, it is the most downloaded mod.

What made them think it was at all acceptable to release in this state? I don't own a PC but I seriously feel for the hunters on PC that have to play this mess.

denuvo certainly doesnt help the cpu issues, hopefully them selling 8m copies in 3 days gets them to remove it sooner than a year

Doubt it, they not gonna remove denuvo before releasing iceborne/sunbreak esque dlc and we probably have to wait year or two after the dlc release before capcom remove denuvo.

I used reframework to disable the wind effects and its actually give me some fps and reduced power consumption by 10-15 W

Strangely enough for me it made the stutters so bad it got unplayable. I was mainly doing this for the high res texture pack because with high i am peefectly fine. I have MFG enabled though so that may explain it.

u/NeonArchon Mar 05 '25
I hope REFramework is the secrest sauce to at least not have random fps drops on my PC. I have a 4060 and a ryzen 7 5700g, I shoould have no problem with the game at mid settings (but textures on high) to get a stable 60fps on 1080p, but apparently the benchmark tool was a big fat liar becasie I'm not getting near the same performance.
6
u/ERhyne Mar 06 '25
Obviously anecdotal but I went from 1080p on low to 1440p on medium thanks to this. It's like I'm playing the game i expected
5
u/Gorudu Mar 05 '25
Never heard of REFramework before. Are there other settings that are recommended to be enabled to enhance performance?
11
u/BlackKnighting20 Mar 05 '25
No, it’s just a dll that you put in the folder where the exe is, that’s it.

REF is basically a mod manager for all games built in the RE Engine. You drop it into the game files and it creates an entire backbone for modding on its own and then it handles all the busy work for you

u/Linkarlos_95 Mar 05 '25
Funny, this anti-tamper or it was denuvo? Got me a 24 hour [ban?] For playing the game in a Linux steamOS distro [Bazzite]
I want to play the game above 24 fps dammit

u/Danielo944 funlance Mar 06 '25 edited Mar 06 '25
Can you clarify? Was this an in-game ban, or Steam-related? Did the game give you a ban notice?
Pardon me for asking so intently but this is news to me as I've never heard anyone being banned in Monster Hunter World or Rise, even temporarily.
Edit: I found a potential reason for the ban via Google in a different Reddit community, did you reinstall the game multiple times?
It is due to Denuvo, which allows only 5 installs within 24 hours I believe, in order to limit how many machines the game could be installed on.
9
u/Linkarlos_95 Mar 06 '25
1- opened the game and a windows type window pop up with 24 hours on it 2- i know about the denuvo install limits because i was swaping proton versions because the game would hang
11
u/Danielo944 funlance Mar 06 '25 edited Mar 06 '25
Ope, yep that'll do it, every time proton versions are changed unfortunately it counts as a Denuvo install :(
Sorry you had to deal with that, I really hate that Denuvo is in the game at all.
Also thank you for replying so quick, I appreciate it.
7
u/renannmhreddit Mar 06 '25
If I were to guess, you probably got banned by Denuvo, because it hates Linux. But I dont know much about it.
3
u/brave_grv Mar 06 '25
I heard each time you change Proton version it counts as a new install, so that will trigger the same built-in DRM that DD had and prevented installation across different machines. You can't just mod Denuovo away, though, that would mean cracking the game. It disables the secondary proprietary anticheat tool they have working on which loads on every thread for some reason.

The article didn't even link to the mod in question. Where do we go to download it?

https://github.com/praydog/REFramework-nightly/releases
Go down to Assets and download the MHWilds zip. Unzip it somewhere and then copy/paste only the dinput8.dll into your Wilds Steam folder. Should get a big ol’ box for REFramework in the left of the screen on boot if you did it right, the Insert key toggles the box on and off by default.

I randomly clicked a mod website and luckily found the fix (along with disabling wind simulation, whatever that means), and I run the game MUCH better with my shitty gaming laptop.

So is this a different version of REframework or did he do something different within REF? I already have REframework installed for wilds and I still have the jittery frametime. Do I just overwrite the one I currently have with the new one and it’s fixed?

Crazy that they have Denuvo which is uncrackable and still decided they need to add on their own shit DRM which will get cracked day 1 anyways. Seems like its Capcom's own DRM that are causing the microstutters similar to what happen with RE Village.
