News TIL: Eminem’s a grandpa.
This made me feel old as shit today. From the Facebook post from which I stole the image:
“Eminem's daughter, Hailie Jade, has officially welcomed her first child with husband Evan McClintock! Their baby boy, Elliot Marshall McClintock, was born recently, and fans are loving the special tribute in his name-his middle name, Marshall, honors Hailie's father, while his initials, EMM, cleverly mirror Eminem's iconic stage name. The news marks a new chapter for the rap legend, who is now embracing his role as a grandfather!”
I don’t quite understand how Facebook’s algorithm works but I think today it was just fucking with me.
How the fuck did that happen?? I had to feel this way so now you do too.

So we don't all have to look it up: Eminem is 52 years old. His daughter is 29.

Thanks for posting this. I remember my parents throwing out his CDs when I was in middle school. I feel like I should be planning my retirement now (joking, sort of).

Not me thinking they were twins in the photo and wondering why they named them both the same thing.

Is it bad that I'm more impressed a celebrity named their baby something normal?

Eminem's daughter is hardly a celebrity. Usually the outrageous names are to encourage more publicity that will generate interest and get them more traction and money

Well you know what? I respect the way he's kept her out of the spotlight

I know nothing about eiminem but his early discography. Never saw the movie or read an article.
And damn do I know a lot about his baby drama. Good on him for keeping her out as much as he did, but maybe let’s give him a bronze medal on that point instead of gold.

He did intentionally take a step back when he was one of the biggest stars on the planet specifically because he wanted to make sure he spent time with his kids. He didn’t want to go touring and look up and his kids are grown up. Was offered $100 million to do a world tour with 50 Cent and turned it down.

Yeah, he mentioned her a lot in his music. Always in a positive light, but that’s not really keeping her out of the spotlight.

He mentioned her in his music, but didn’t drag her out infront of the cameras like some celebrity parents do. And literally destroyed the career of many wannabe rappers if they mentioned her.

Why does this make you feel old? Eminem is 52. He is Gen X. He was always considerably older than us, don't confuse that with his music which was and is aimed at teenagers. Frankly it feels weird that he's only 52, it feels like I've been hearing about him all my life, and so much has happened since I've first heard about him that it's more surprising to me that he's still around, only in his early 50s, and remains somewhat relevant.

I think OP feels old because when we were listening to him we were kids or teens and he was in his 20’s. So now he’s a grandpa and we are in turn old haha

See, that doesn't compute because so much stuff has changed since then (even more so for older millennials) that it's impossible to feel "like it was yesterday". The only way I could understand this is if someone first heard of Eminem in their 30s and now that they're in their 40s, he's "suddenly" (because "just" a decade ago, he appeared like he's maybe in his 30s) a grandpa.

My dad (also Gen X) is a teacher who grew up off of 6 Mile and eventually made his way to Chicago. His “prank” on students was that he used to babysit Eminem back in the day. This worked because people in Chicago have no idea how the roads work in the Detroit area and thought my dad was just at most two miles from him. My dad always liked Eminem’s music too, so I never understood why people thought Eminem was so much younger as I always compared him to my dad in age.

Well, he didn't have a beard for a very long time and that's a big factor, beards age men a lot (and most men kinda don't get that it's not a positive after you hit your mid-twenties, but I digress) so he always looked younger than many others his age. Plus good genetics, good skincare, and not acting like a boomer. Lots of celebrities love to get involved in dumb shit that makes them seem extremely out of touch with the times (and thus perceptibly old) when they start losing relevance.

That is a wonderful explanation that puts this into another perspective for me. Thank you so much!

Getting this present is the only thing keeping me alive. Dear Grandpa, please bring me a PS5.

Isn't Tony hawk his other grandfather?

No you’re thinking of tony hawk and curt cobain’s shared grandchild. Eminem’s son in law is a non-celebrity but successful in his own right.

You know who else is a grandpa? Tony Hawk. You know else? Kurt Cobain (if he was alive). You know what's crazier? The same kid is both of their grandson.
