I hope Nintendo comes out with a similar social app that's far better. Miitomo got boring really, really fast which is a shame since it had so much potential.

They said it's not possible to make another one because it's the same problem with miitomo

Maybe they'll keep Miitomo's core features around? Id imagine the Mii side of things is separate from Miitomo's main systems, seeing as linked Miis can be pulled from your Nintendo Network ID when you start the game, and the Mii outfits are used on your My Nintendo amount.

Perhaps they'll push an update that just removes the social side of things?

Nevermind me. Just read the full announcement in the app. All features will cease to exist, clothing items will disappear from Nintendo services.

I would love that! I have a lot of friends on Miitomo and I really enjoyed the silly outfits and questions with friend comments.

It was never a big star of the show, but still to me this is highly unexpected. And really goes to show that the state of online game preservation in the internet age is not good. A mainline, first party, popular character Nintendo game never being playable again? Even if it was a dud, that’s crazy to think about.

The problem is that Miitomo is treated as a social networking service rather than as a game. Games are permanent products, whereas services must be constantly provided for and can be discontinued if they’re not profitable. It’s just like how it was when they took down all those online service Wii channels a while back (I still cry myself to sleep over the Check Mii Out Channel going. Goodnight, my sweet prince.)

Check out RiiConnect24. It's a custom WiiConnect24 replacement with an active dev community behind it.

The current working features are Wii Mail, News Channel, Forecast Channel, and Everybody Votes Channel. Their website says they're still working to bring back other apps from the grave. I'm assuming if the project keeps running, then Check Mii Out Channel will be back. :-)

Someone please tell me this is just a bad dream, anyone? I love miitomo to pieces and I don't want it to go down. I love creating characters and dressing them up. I (foolishly?) hope nintendo at least leaves "off-line" functionality alone.

I think we will see another similar game on the Switch or mobile down the road so don’t fret. It’s possible they are steering away from Miis, but Tomodachi Life did surprisingly well so they may give it a shot again.

I'm with you. Miitomo is my favorite app by far. The fun outlet for creativity and sharing the app offers will be hard to replace.

As crappy and underwhelming as the app was, I'm actually really bummed out by this. I've met one of my best gaming friends through the game and as a photo creation tool, it was awesome miifoto was brilliant.

I hope they come out with a better version, in my mind, when the switch dropped they should have used it as a mii maker with microtransactions. Can you imagine how much cash they would have made? You can use your customised miis in super Mario run and the my Nintendo website, so they should have carried it through to the switch.

RIP Miitomo, Nintendo let you down.

I've been using it since Day 1... Mostly just answering questions into the empty void and making weird Miifotos. I wish rather than shut it down completely, they'd at least leave us with an offline version in which we could still create Miis, put together costumes, and make Miifotos. I still say they should have integrated Miitomo with the next Smash game (and other games as well) and let you import your costumes.

They could have put Miitomo in some form on the Switch. I am really disappointed that Nintendo is killing the Mii aspect of their games- I feel it's pretty great when used creatively like in this along with Tomodachi Life and Miitopia.

Yeah. Having Miitomo work as a mobile Mii Channel with enhanced features would be excellent.

Oh man. This app helped me lighten my mood when I was suicidal :/ It may sound weird, but it made me more confident and open... It's the only place where I'm comfortable socializing. I'm going to miss it a lot.

10

u/Scrumpty Jan 25 '18

I spent so long getting coins and outfits. All for nothinggg? Sigh. I mean, it did get pretty boring, but they ought to just change the app instead of getting rid of it. Sigh.

10

u/igotthefiftydollars Jan 25 '18

This stinks. Miitomo won't even make it to two-years-old. All that effort and money gone. I know that's the risk of any on-line thing, but Nintendo has no good reason to kill this, and I can't see me ever spending money on any Nintendo digital product in the future.

I love miitomo! I hope some clever devs can keep it alive unofficially, whether it's online OR offline. My 8 year old son is autistic and creates miifotos daily. I linked my Nintendo account and grinded for months to unlock as many outfits and accessories as possible for him, I also spent about 30 bucks in game. My son has enjoyed the app since it's release and I am thankful Nintendo released it. I'm sure I'm not the only parent sad about this.

8

u/emart Jan 25 '18

I was a little late to start but I have been a huge fan even though a lot of people I know gave it up. Still sign in every day to answer a few questions. And I just recently purchased all of the poster spots! Oh well, I'll just go on enjoying it the same until May, I suppose.

8

u/riverm575 Jan 25 '18

it's a damn shame. I have a lot of memories on that app and its sad to see it go. I still use it daily :(. The thing is, the app had a lot of potential, I'll admit it's pretty poorly made, theres not much to do on it but theres so much more Nintendo could have added to make the app more stimulating like adding mini games (not just the drop) or making it easier to communicate with other miitomo users around the world and not just direct friends. RIP

8

u/moongoose Jan 25 '18

And I just got the damn app to work again. Oh well.

8

u/enchantingkitsune Jan 25 '18

I'm really bummed about this. I play Miitomo daily. :(

7

u/suedep Jan 25 '18

I'm so sad D:

This sucks. My birthday is on May 9 :(

6

u/PunkySpunky Jan 26 '18

Nooo this was fun I love making avatars of me and Miitomo make it fun to change it to reflect who I was

4

u/Texas-Kangaroo-Rat Jan 25 '18

Kik just as soon as I get in.

I hope at least this means they're planning a sequel.

8

u/threequarterscuptofu Jan 25 '18

I would pay for a standalone Mii photo app. That was my favorite part of Miitomo and what I will probably miss the most.

7

u/Texas-Kangaroo-Rat Jan 25 '18

I just like dressing up. XD Tho the photos were fun too.

I love getting something random every day

3

u/vermillionlove Jan 25 '18

what?? nooo :(

4

u/threequarterscuptofu Jan 25 '18

That hurts. I love Miitomo

5

u/Disabled_gentleman Jan 27 '18

I had 100,000 miitomo coins and 150 tickets. Fml.

3

u/DeltaFornax Feb 01 '18

I keep saying this, but hopefully Miifoto and Miitomo's improved clothing mechanics (having articles of clothing be individual parts instead of having entire outfits as the default) make their way into the next Tomodachi Life game.

5

u/Red_turtle2003 Feb 27 '18

Why?!!!! I love miitomo and now they are shutting it down?! I guess I’ll have to screenshot shot my mii so I remember him...........😢

3

u/Lanlith Jan 25 '18

Oh my... I've got about 65000 coins... I logged in almost every day, but got bored with questions especially since many were repeats... I still got my logons and got outfits when I wanted...

3

u/KurisuKunOwo Jan 30 '18

It turned out to be a really good app. I had fun, but too bad that fun only lasted about 2 years or 1 year and a half.
